A refinement of the Q-Polynomial for twisted knots
This paper introduces a two-variable polynomial invariant for oriented twisted knots, denoted by $Q_{K}^{z}(s,t)$, refining the $Q$-polynomial of N. Kamada and S. Kamada \cite{NaoSei}. We exhibit an infinite family of twisted knots indistinguishable by the $Q$-polynomial but separated by the $Q^z$-polynomial. To prove invariance, we first determine a generating set of oriented Reidemeister moves for twisted knot diagrams, extending the result of Ali \cite{Dan} for oriented virtual knots; this result is new and of independent interest, as it provides the minimal framework needed to verify invariance of any oriented twisted knot invariant. As further applications, we derive an explicit crossing change formula, obtain lower bounds on the Gordian distance between homotopic twisted knots, examine the existence of cosmetic crossings in a twisted knot diagram, and finally prove that $Q^{z}_{K}(s,t)$ is a Vassiliev invariant of order one.

Noncrossing Combinatorics, the Full Twist, and Decategorification of Knot Invariants
Much work in knot theory has consisted of categorifying, and thereby strengthening, knot invariants. We take the opposite approach: decategorification, more commonly called combinatorics. We introduce a technique that relates the dual braid group generators, the Hecke images of pure braids, and factorization problems in reflection groups to knot invariants. We prove that the $(a,z{=}0)$-HOMFLYPT polynomial can be computed as a solution to such a problem. This technique was motivated by Coxeter--Catalan combinatorics. For example, we give a new proof of EL-shellability of the noncrossing partition lattice using the image of the full twist in the Hecke algebra; in a surprising sort of combinatorial reciprocity, its inverse computes the homotopy type. Similarly, noncrossing partitions naturally arise from our construction applied to positive powers of the full twist, while cluster complexes come from the same construction applied to negative powers. In crystallographic type, we exploit the conjugacy of all Coxeter elements to give the first reflection subword models for rational noncrossing Catalan objects. Our reciprocity gives two models: one generalizing noncrossing partitions, and one generalizing clusters. Applying the same method produces two (rational) noncrossing parking models.

Stoimenow matchings avoiding multiple Catalan patterns simultaneously
Motivated by Vassiliev's knot invariants, Stoimenow introduced a special class of matchings, now known as Stoimenow matchings. These matchings have since been linked to various combinatorial structures enumerated by the Fishburn numbers. In a recent paper, a problem posed by Bevan et al. was addressed concerning the identification of subsets of Stoimenow matchings counted by the Catalan numbers. Five such subsets were presented, each defined by the avoidance of a single pattern, referred to as a Catalan pattern, within Stoimenow matchings. In the present paper, we extend this line of research by enumerating all cases of simultaneous avoidance of sets of Catalan patterns in Stoimenow matchings. This comprehensive analysis reveals connections to nine integer sequences listed in the OEIS.

Catalan structures arising from pattern-avoiding Stoimenow matchings and other Fishburn objects
In connection with Vassiliev's knot invariants, Stoimenow introduced in 1998 a class of matchings, also known as regular linearized chord diagrams. These matchings are linked to various combinatorial structures, all of which are associated with the Fishburn numbers. In this paper, we address a problem posed by Bevan et~al.\ concerning the identification of subsets of Stoimenow matchings that are counted by the Catalan numbers. We present five solutions in terms of pattern-avoiding matchings. We also consider four infinite families of patterns that generalize four of the five forbidden patterns appearing in the solution to the problem we solved and prove that the matchings avoiding them are equinumerous. Finally, we establish numerous results on distributions and joint equidistribution of statistics over Catalan-counted subsets of Fishburn structures, namely Stoimenow matchings, $(2+2)$-free posets, ascent sequences, and Fishburn permutations, notably expressing some of them in terms of Narayana numbers and others in terms of ballot numbers.

Generalized chord diagrams and weight systems
Weight systems are functions on chord diagrams satisfying Vassiliev's $4$-term relations. They originate in the theory of finite type knot invariants. Recent developments in understanding weight systems arising from Lie algebras are based on extending these weight systems from chord diagrams (which can be interpreted as involutions without fixed points, considered modulo cyclic shifts) to arbitrary permutations (also modulo cyclic shifts). We suggest relations for functions on permutations, which generalize Vassiliev's relations. We show that the $gl$- and $so$- weight systems satisfy these relations. We also analyze certain properties of these weight systems and study realted Hopf algebras of permutations.

$q$-deformed rationals and irrationals
The concept of $q$-deformation, or ``$q$-analogue'' arises in many areas of mathematics. In algebra and representation theory, it is the origin of quantum groups; $q$-deformations are important for knot invariants, combinatorial enumeration, discrete geometry, analysis, and many other parts of mathematics. In mathematical physics, $q$-deformations are often understood as ``quantizations''. The recently introduced notion of a $q$-deformed real number is based on the geometric idea of invariance by a modular group action. The goal of this lecture is to explain what is a $q$-rational and a $q$-irrational, demonstrate beautiful properties of these objects, and describe their relations to many different areas. We also tried to describe some applications of $q$-numbers.

Schröder Paths, Their Generalizations and Knot Invariants
We study some kinds of generalizations of Schröder paths below a line with rational slope and derive the $q$-difference equations that are satisfied by their generating functions. As a result, we establish a relation between the generating function of generalized Schröder paths with backwards and the wave function corresponding to colored HOMFLY-PT polynomials of torus knot $T_{1,f}$. We also give a combinatorial proof of a recent result by Stošić and Sułkowski, in which the standard generalized Schröder paths are related to the superpolynomial of reduced colored HOMFLY-PT homology of $T_{1,f}$.

Rational Cherednik Algebras and Torus Knot Invariants
The HOMFLY polynomial of the $(m,n)$ torus knot $T_{m,n}$ can be extracted from the doubly graded character of the finite-dimensional representation $\mathrm{L}_{\frac{m}{n}}$ of the type $A_{n-1}$ rational Cherednik algebra as observed by Gorsky, Oblomkov, Rasmussen and Shende. It is furthermore conjectured that one can obtain the triply-graded Khovanov-Rozansky homology of $T_{m,n}$ by considering a certain filtration on $\mathrm{L}_{\frac{m}{n}}$. In this paper, we show that two of the proposed candidates, the algebraic filtration and the inductive filtration, are equal.

Polynomial graph invariants induced from the ${\mathfrak gl}$-weight system
Published • View PublicationBIB
Weight systems are functions on chord diagrams satisfying so-called Vassiliev's $4$-term relations. They are closely related to finite type knot invariants introduced by Vassiliev. Certain weight systems can be derived from graph invariants. Another main source of weight systems are Lie algebras. In recent papers, the weight systems associated to Lie algebras ${\mathfrak gl}(N)$ were unified in a universal ${\mathfrak gl}$-weight system, which takes values in the ring of polynomials in infinitely many variables. The unification has been achieved by extending the ${\mathfrak gl}(N)$-weight systems from chord diagrams to arbitrary permutations. A natural question then arises, namely, which already known weight systems can be obtained from the universal ${\mathfrak gl}$ weight system. In addition to understanding the internal relationship between weight systems, knowing that a given weight system can be induced from the ${\mathfrak gl}$-weight system would immediately lead to extending the former to arbitrary permutations. To each chord diagram, one can associate a graph, called the intersection graph of the chord diagram. Certain weight systems are completely determined by the intersection graphs. In general, the relationship between Lie algebra weight systems and polynomial graph invariants looks rather complicated. Our main result in the present paper consists in showing that the well-known graph and delta-matroid invariant, the interlace polynomial, can be induced from the universal ${\mathfrak gl}$-weight system. We provide an explicit substitution making the ${\mathfrak gl}$-weight system into the interlace polynomial for chord diagrams and their intersection graphs.

Partial-dual genus polynomial as a weight system
Published in Communications in Mathematics, Volume 31 (2023), Issue 3 (Special issue: in memory of Sergei Duzhin) (January 22, 2024) cm:11709 • View PublicationBIB
We prove that the partial-dual genus polynomial considered as a function on chord diagrams satisfies the four-term relation. Thus it is a weight system from the theory of Vassiliev knot invariants.

On the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$ weight system
Published • View PublicationBIB
To a finite type knot invariant, a weight system can be associated, which is a function on chord diagrams satisfying so-called $4$-term relations. In the opposite direction, each weight system determines a finite type knot invariant. In particular, a weight system can be associated to any metrized Lie algebra, and any metrized Lie superalgebra. However, computation of these weight systems is complicated. In the recent paper by the present author, an extension of the $\mathfrak{gl}(N)$-weight system to arbitrary permutations is defined, which allows one to develop a recurrence relation for an efficient computation of its values. In addition, the result proves to be universal, valid for all values of $N$ and allowing thus to define a unifying $\mathfrak{gl}$-weight system taking values in the ring of polynomials in infinitely many variables $C_0=N,C_1,C_2,\dots$. In the present paper, we extend this construction to the weight system associated to the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$. Then we prove that the $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$-weight system is equivalent to the $\mathfrak{gl}$-one, under the substitution $C_0=m-n$.

Skew characteristic polynomial of graphs and embedded graphs
Published in Communications in Mathematics, Volume 31 (2023), Issue 3 (Special issue: in memory of Sergei Duzhin) (December 30, 2023) cm:11310 • View PublicationBIB
We introduce a new one-variable polynomial invariant of graphs, which we call the skew characteristic polynomial. For an oriented simple graph, this is just the characteristic polynomial of its anti-symmetric adjacency matrix. For nonoriented simple graphs the definition is different, but for a certain class of graphs (namely, for intersection graphs of chord diagrams), it gives the same answer if we endow such a graph with an orientation induced by the chord diagram. We prove that this invariant satisfies Vassiliev's $4$-term relations and determines therefore a finite type knot invariant. We investigate the behaviour of the polynomial with respect to the Hopf algebra structure on the space of graphs and show that it takes a constant value on any primitive element in this Hopf algebra. We also provide a two-variable extension of the skew characteristic polynomial to embedded graphs and delta-matroids. The $4$-term relations for the extended polynomial prove that it determines a finite type invariant of multicomponent links.

Values of the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ weight system on complete bipartite graphs
Published in Functional Analysis and Its Applications, 54(3), 208-223 (2020) • View PublicationBIB
A weight system is a function on chord diagrams that satisfies the so-called four-term relations. Vassiliev's theory of finite-order knot invariants describes these invariants in terms of weight systems. In particular, there is a weight system corresponding to the colored Jones polynomial. This weight system can be easily defined in terms of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2$, but this definition is too cumbersome from the computational point of view, so that the values of this weight system are known only for some limited classes of chord diagrams. In the present paper we give a formula for the values of the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ weight system for a class of chord diagrams whose intersection graphs are complete bipartite graphs with no more than three vertices in one of the parts. Our main computational tool is the Chmutov--Varchenko reccurence relation. Furthermore, complete bipartite graphs with no more than three vertices in one of the parts generate Hopf subalgebras of the Hopf algebra of graphs, and we deduce formulas for the projection onto the subspace of primitive elements along the subspace of decomposable elements in these subalgebras. We compute the values of the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ weight system for the projections of chord diagrams with such intersection graphs. Our results confirm certain conjectures due to S.K.Lando on the values of the weight system $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at the projections of chord diagrams on the space of primitive elements.

On values of $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ weight system on chord diagrams whose intersection graph is complete bipartite

Each knot invariant can be extended to singular knots according to the skein rule. A Vassiliev invariant of order at most $n$ is defined as a knot invariant that vanishes identically on knots with more than $n$ double points. A chord diagram encodes the order of double points along a singular knot. A Vassiliev invariant of order $n$ gives rise to a function on chord diagrams with $n$ chords. Such a function should satisfy some conditions in order to come from a Vassiliev invariant. A weight system is a function on chord diagrams that satisfies so-called 4-term relations. Given a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ equipped with a non-degenerate invariant bilinear form, one can construct a weight system with values in the center of the universal enveloping algebra $U(\mathfrak{g})$. In this paper, we calculate $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ weight system for chord diagram whose intersection graph is complete bipartite graph $K_{2,n}$.

Cyclotomic expansions for $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ knot invariants via interpolation Macdonald polynomials
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper we construct a new basis for the cyclotomic completion of the center of the quantum $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ in terms of the interpolation Macdonald polynomials. Then we use a result of Okounkov to provide a dual basis with respect to the quantum Killing form (or Hopf pairing). The main applications are: 1) cyclotomic expansions for the $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ Reshetikhin--Turaev link invariants and the universal $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ knot invariant; 2) an explicit construction of the unified $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ invariants for integral homology 3-spheres using universal Kirby colors. These results generalize those of Habiro for $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. In addition, we give a simple proof of the fact that the universal $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ invariant of any evenly framed link and the universal $\mathfrak{sl}_N$ invariant of any $0$-framed algebraically split link are $Γ$-invariant, where $Γ=Y/2Y$ with the root lattice $Y$.

Extremal Khovanov homology and the girth of a knot
We utilize relations between Khovanov and chromatic graph homology to determine extreme Khovanov groups and corresponding coefficients of the Jones polynomial. The extent to which chromatic homology and chromatic polynomial can be used to compute integral Khovanov homology of a link depends on the maximal girth of its all-positive graphs. In this paper we also define the girth of a link, discuss relations to other knot invariants, and the possible values for girth. Analyzing girth leads to a description of possible all-A state graphs of any given link; e.g., if a link has a diagram such that the girth of the corresponding all-A graph is equal to $\ell>2$, than the girth of the link is equal to $\ell.$

Tilting modules arising from knot invariants
Published • View PublicationBIB
We construct tilting modules over Jacobian algebras arising from knots. To a two-bridge knot $L[a_1,\ldots,a_n]$, we associate a quiver $Q$ with potential and its Jacobian algebra $A$. We construct a family of canonical indecomposable $A$-modules $M(i)$, each supported on a different specific subquiver $Q(i)$ of $Q$. Each of the $M(i)$ is expected to parametrize the Jones polynomial of the knot. We study the direct sum $M=\oplus_iM(i)$ of these indecomposables inside the module category of $A$ as well as in the cluster category. In this paper we consider the special case where the two-bridge knot is given by two parameters $a_1,a_2$. We show that the module $M$ is rigid and $τ$-rigid, and we construct a completion of $M$ to a tilting (and $τ$-tilting) $A$-module $T$. We show that the endomorphism algebra $\operatorname{End}_AT$ of $T$ is isomorphic to $A$, and that the mapping $T\mapsto A[1]$ induces a cluster automorphism of the cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}(Q)$. This automorphism is of order two. Moreover, we give a mutation sequence that realizes the cluster automorphism. In particular, we show that the quiver $Q$ is mutation equivalent to an acyclic quiver of type $T_{p,q,r}$ (a tree with three branches). This quiver is of finite type if $(a_1,a_2)=(a_1,2), (1,a_2),$ or $(2,3)$, it is tame for $(a_1,a_2)=(2,4)$ or $(3,3)$, and wild otherwise.

Transition polynomial as a weight system for binary delta-matroids
Published in MOSCOW MATHEMATICAL JOURNAL Volume 22 Number 1 January-March 2022 Pages 69-81 • View PublicationBIB
To a singular knot K with n double points, one can associate a chord diagram with n chords. A chord diagram can also be understood as a 4-regular graph endowed with an oriented Euler circuit. L. Traldi introduced a polynomial invariant for such graphs, called a transition polynomial. We specialize this polynomial to a multiplicative weight system, that is, a function on chord diagrams satisfying 4-term relations and determining thus a finite type knot invariant. We prove a similar statement for the transition polynomial of general ribbon graphs and binary delta-matroids defined by R. Brijder and H. J. Hoogeboom, which defines, as a consequence, a finite type invariant of links.

An extension of Stanley's chromatic symmetric function to binary delta-matroids
Stanley's symmetrized chromatic polynomial is a generalization of the ordinary chromatic polynomial to a graph invariant with values in a ring of polynomials in infnitely many variables. The ordinary chromatic polynomial is a specialization of the Stanley's one. Our goal is to extend Stanley's chromatic polynomial to embedded graphs. In contrast to well-known extensions of, say, the Tutte polynomial from abstract to embedded graphs [5], we do not treat an embedded graph as an abstract graph endowed with additional information about the embedding. Instead, we consider the binary delta-matroid associated to an embedded graph and define the extended Stanley's chromatic polynomial as an invariant of delta-matroids. We show that, similarly to Stanley's symmetrized chromatic polynomial of graphs, which satisfies 4-term relations for simple graphs and determines in this way a knot invariant, extended Stanley's chromatic polynomial of binary delta-matroids we define satisfies the 4-term relations for binary delta-matroids [10] and determines, therefore, an invariant of links.

Donaldson-Thomas invariants, torus knots, and lattice paths
Published in Phys. Rev. D 98, 026022 (2018) • View PublicationBIB
In this paper we find and explore the correspondence between quivers, torus knots, and combinatorics of counting paths. Our first result pertains to quiver representation theory -- we find explicit formulae for classical generating functions and Donaldson-Thomas invariants of an arbitrary symmetric quiver. We then focus on quivers corresponding to $(r,s)$ torus knots and show that their classical generating functions, in the extremal limit and framing $rs$, are generating functions of lattice paths under the line of the slope $r/s$. Generating functions of such paths satisfy extremal A-polynomial equations, which immediately follows after representing them in terms of the Duchon grammar. Moreover, these extremal A-polynomial equations encode Donaldson-Thomas invariants, which provides an interesting example of algebraicity of generating functions of these invariants. We also find a quantum generalization of these statements, i.e. a relation between motivic quiver generating functions, quantum extremal knot invariants, and $q$-weighted path counting. Finally, in the case of the unknot, we generalize this correspondence to the full HOMFLY-PT invariants and counting of Schröder paths.
