One-parameter families of multiview varieties via quotient lattices
We develop a novel theory of one-parameter families of multi-view varieties. These families are induced by quotient lattices over discrete valuation rings and generalise the notion of \textit{Mustafin varieties}. We study the geometry and the combinatorics of the limit of these families.
Closures of O_n orbits in the flag variety for GL_n, II
We give a necessary and sufficient condition in terms of pattern avoidance for the conjugates of the bottom vertex in the Bruhat graph attached to an O_n orbit O in the flag variety for GL_n to have degree equal to the rank of this graph as a poset, showing that this condition is equivalent to the rational smoothness of the closure of O. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition in terms of pattern avoidance for the closure of O to be smooth.
A Short Note on Asymptotic Enumeration of Contingency Tables with Non-Uniform Margins
In this short note, we compute the precise asymptotics for the number of contingency tables with non-uniform margins. More precisely, for parameter $n,δ, B,C>0$, we consider the set of matrices whose first $[n^δ]$ rows and columns have sum $[BCn]$ and the rest $n$ rows and columns have sum $[Cn]$. We compute the precise asymptotics of the cardinality of this set when $B<B_c=1+\sqrt{1+1/C}$ using the maximal entropy methods developed by Barvinok and Hartigan. The only contribution of this note is a detailed expansion of the determinant of quadratic forms in asymptotic formulas.

We confirm the following conjecture which has been proposed in [{\em Linear Algebra and its Applications}, {\bf 436} (2012), No. 5, 1425-1435.]: $$ 0.945\approx\displaystyle\lim_{n\longrightarrow \infty}σ(P_n,Z_n)=\displaystyle\lim_{n\longrightarrow \infty}σ(W_n,Z_n)=\frac{1}{2}\displaystyle\lim_{n\longrightarrow \infty}σ(P_n,W_n);\ \displaystyle\lim_{n\longrightarrow \infty}σ(C_{2n},Z_{2n})=2,$$ where $σ(G_1,G_2)=\sum_{i=1}^n |λ_i(G_1)-λ_i(G_2)|$ is the spectral distance between $n$ vertex non-isomorphic graphs $G_1$ and $G_2$ with adjacency spectra $λ_1(G_i) \geq λ_2(G_i) \geq \cdots \geq λ_n(G_i)$ for $i=1,2$, and $P_n$ and $C_n$ denote the path and cycle on $n$ vertices, respectively; $Z_n$ denotes the coalescence of $P_{n-2}$ and $P_3$ on one of the vertices of degree 1 of $P_{n-2}$ and the vertex of degree $2$ of $P_3$; and $W_n$ denotes the coalescence of $Z_{n-2}$ and $P_3$ on the vertex of degree 1 of $Z_{n-2}$ which is adjacent to a vertex of degree $2$ and the vertex of degree $2$ of $P_3$.

We study Erd\H os's distinct distances problem under $\ell_p$ metrics with integer $p$. We improve the current best bound for this problem from $Ω(n^{4/5})$ to $Ω(n^{6/7-ε})$, for any $ε>0$. We also characterize the sets that span an asymptotically minimal number of distinct distances under the $\ell_1$ and $\ell_\infty$ metrics.

The undirected power graph (or simply power graph) of a group $G$, denoted by $P(G)$, is a graph whose vertices are the elements of the group $G$, in which two vertices $u$ and $v$ are connected by an edge between if and only if either $u=v^i$ or $v=u^j$ for some $i$, $j$.
A number of important graph classes, including perfect graphs, cographs, chordal graphs, split graphs, and threshold graphs, can be defined either structurally or in terms of forbidden induced subgraphs. We examine each of these five classes and attempt to determine for which groups $G$ the power graph $P(G)$ lies in the class under consideration. We give complete results in the case of nilpotent groups, and partial results in greater generality. In particular, the power graph is always perfect; and we determine completely the groups whose power graph is a threshold or split graph (the answer is the same for both classes). We give a number of open problems.
A characterization of pseudo-Anosov mapping classes via tropical cluster transformations
We give a characterization of generic pseudo-Anosov mapping classes purely in terms of their expressions in the shear coordinates, thus giving an answer to a problem raised by Papadopoulos--Penner [PP93]. This characterization has a cluster algebraic generalization called the sign stability introduced in [IK21]. By combining with the results in [IK21], we see that the algebraic entropies of the cluster $\mathcal{A}$- and $\mathcal{X}$-transformations induced by a generic pseudo-Anosov mapping class both coincide with its topological entropy.
On edge-weighted mean eccentricity of graphs
Let $G$ be a connected edge-weighted graph of order $n$ and size $m$. Let $w:E(G)\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{\geq 0}$ be the weighting function. We assume that $w$ is normalised, that is, $\sum_{e\in E(G)} w(e)=m$. The weighted distance $d_w(u,v)$ between any two vertices $u$ and $v$ is the least weight between them and the eccentricity $e_w(v)$ of a vertex $v$ is the weighted distance from $v$ to a vertex farthest from it in $G$. The mean(average) eccentricity of $G$, $avec(G,w)$, is the (weighted) mean of all eccentricities in $G$. We obtain upper and lower bounds on $avec(G,w)$ in terms of $n$, $m$ or edge-connectivity $λ$ for two cases: $G$ is a tree and $G$ is connected but not a tree. In addition, we obtain the Nordhaus-Gaddum-type results for edge-weighted average eccentricity.

Horizontal and vertical generating functions and recursion relations have been investigated by Comtet for triangular double sequences. In this paper we investigate the horizontal and vertical log-concavity of triangular sequences assigned to polynomials which show up in combinatorics, number theory and physics. This includes Laguerre polynomials, the Pochhammer polynomials, the D'Arcais and Nekrasov--Okounkov polynomials.
Stability of Cayley graphs on abelian groups of odd order

Let $X$ be a connected Cayley graph on an abelian group of odd order, such that no two distinct vertices of $X$ have exactly the same neighbours. We show that the direct product $X \times K_2$ (also called the "canonical double cover" of $X$) has only the obvious automorphisms (namely, the ones that come from automorphisms of its factors $X$ and $K_2$). This means that $X$ is "stable". The proof is short and elementary. The theory of direct products implies that $K_2$ can be replaced with members of a much more general family of connected graphs.
Total connected domination game
The (total) connected domination game on a graph $G$ is played by two players, Dominator and Staller, according to the standard (total) domination game with the additional requirement that at each stage of the game the selected vertices induce a connected subgraph of $G$. If Dominator starts the game and both players play optimally, then the number of vertices selected during the game is the (total) connected game domination number ($γ_{\rm tcg}(G)$) $γ_{\rm cg}(G)$ of $G$. We show that $γ_{\rm tcg}(G)\in \{γ_{\rm cg}(G), γ_{\rm cg}(G) + 1, γ_{\rm cg}(G) + 2\}$, and consequently define $G$ as Class $i$ if $γ_{\rm tcg}(G) = γ_{\rm cg} + i$ for $i \in \{0,1,2\}$. A large family of Class $0$ graphs is constructed which contains all connected Cartesian product graphs and connected direct product graphs with minumum degree at least $2$. We show that no tree is Class $2$ and characterize Class $1$ trees. We provide an infinite family of Class $2$ bipartite graphs.

In this paper we compute powers in the wreath product $G\wr S_n$, for any finite group $G$. For $r\geq 2$, a prime, consider $ω_r: G\wr S_n\to G\wr S_n$ defined by $g \mapsto g^r$. Let $P_{r}(G\wr S_n)=\frac{|ω_r(G\wr S_n)|}{|G|^n n!}$, be the probability that a randomly chosen element in $G\wr S_n$ is a $r^{th}$ power. We prove, $P_r(G\wr S_{n+1})=P_r(G\wr S_n)$ for all $n\not \equiv -1(\text{mod } r)$ if, order of $G$ is coprime to $r$. We also give a formula for the number of conjugacy classes that are $r^{th}$ powers in $G\wr S_n$.

Let $\mathscr{P}$ be a symplectic polar space over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, and $\mathscr{P}_m$ denote the set of all $m$-dimensional subspaces in $\mathscr{P}$. We say a $t$-intersecting subfamily of $\mathscr{P}_m$ is trivial if there exists a $t$-dimensional subspace contained in each member of this family. In this paper, we determine the structure of maximum sized non-trivial $t$-intersecting subfamilies of $\mathscr{P}_m$.

A tiling is a decomposition of a polygon into finitely many non-overlapping triangles. We prove that if a regular n-gon, $n \geq 5$, $n \neq 28$, can be tiled with similar right triangles, then one of the angles of these triangles is in $\left\{\fracπ{n},\frac{2π}{n}, \fracπ {6}+\frac{2π}{3n}\right\}$. Some related results were previously obtained by M.Laczkovich and B. Szegedy.

Bilinear expansions of lattices of KP $τ$-functions in BKP $τ$-functions: a fermionic approach

We derive a bilinear expansion expressing elements of a lattice of KP $τ$-functions, labelled by partitions, as a sum over products of pairs of elements of an associated lattice of BKP $τ$-functions, labelled by strict partitions. This generalizes earlier results relating determinants and Pfaffians of minors of skew symmetric matrices, with applications to Schur functions and Schur $Q$-functions. It is deduced using the representations of KP and BKP $τ$-functions as vacuum expectation values (VEV's) of products of fermionic operators of charged and neutral type, respectively. The lattice is generated by insertion of products of pairs of charged creation and annihilation operators. The result follows from expanding the product as a sum of monomials in the neutral fermionic generators and applying a factorization theorem for VEV's of products of operators in the mutually commuting subalgebras. Applications include the case of inhomogeneous polynomial $τ$-functions of KP and BKP type.
Combining the Mersenne Twister and the Xorgens Designs
We combine the design of two \emph{random number generators}, \emph{Mersenne Twister} and \emph{Xorgens}, to obtain a new class of generators with heavy-weight characteristic polynomials (exceeded only by the {\sc well} generators) and high speed (comparable with the originals). Tables with parameter combinations are included for state sizes ranging from 521 to 44497 bits and each of the word lengths 32, 64, 128. These generators passed all tests of the \emph{TestU01}-package for each 32-bit integer part and each 64-bit derived real part of the output. We determine \emph{dimension gaps} for 32-bit words, neglecting the non-linear tempering, and compare with an alternative experimental linear tempering.
Card Guessing with Partial Feedback

Consider the following experiment: a deck with $m$ copies of $n$ different card types is randomly shuffled, and a guesser attempts to guess the cards sequentially as they are drawn. Each time a guess is made, some amount of "feedback" is given. For example, one could tell the guesser the true identity of the card they just guessed (the complete feedback model) or they could be told nothing at all (the no feedback model).
In this paper we explore a partial feedback model, where upon guessing a card, the guesser is only told whether or not their guess was correct. We show in this setting that, uniformly in $n$, at most $m+O(m^{3/4}\log m)$ cards can be guessed correctly in expectation. This resolves a question of Diaconis and Graham from 1981, where even the $m=2$ case was open.
Firefighting on the Hexagonal Grid and on Infinite Trees

The firefighter problem with $k$ firefighters on an infinite graph $G$ is an iterative graph process, defined as follows: Suppose a fire breaks out at a given vertex $v\in V(G)$ on Turn 1. On each subsequent even turn, $k$ firefighters protect $k$ vertices that are not on fire, and on each subsequent odd turn, any vertex that is on fire spreads the fire to all adjacent unprotected vertices. The firefighters' goal is to eventually stop the spread of the fire. If there exists a strategy for $k$ firefighters to eventually stop the spread of the fire, then we say $G$ is $k$-containable.
We consider the firefighter problem on the hexagonal grid, which is the graph whose vertices and edges are exactly the vertices and edges of a regular hexagonal tiling of the plane. It is not known if the hexagonal grid is $1$-containable. In arXiv:1305.7076 [math.CO], it was shown that if the firefighters have one firefighter per turn and one extra firefighter on two turns, the firefighters can contain the fire. We improve on this result by showing that even with only one extra firefighter on one turn, the firefighters can still contain the fire.
In addition, we explore $k$-containability for birth sequence trees, which are infinite rooted trees that have the property that every vertex at the same level has the same degree. A birth sequence forest is an infinite forest, each component of which is a birth sequence tree. For birth sequence trees and forests, the fire always starts at the root of each tree. We provide a pseudopolynomial time algorithm to decide if all the vertices at a fixed level can be protected or not.
