A note on the Erdős-Hajnal property for stable graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this short note we provide a relatively simple proof of the Erdős-Hajnal conjecture for families of finite (hyper-)graphs without the $k$-order property. It was originally proved by M. Malliaris and S. Shelah in "Regularity lemmas for stable graphs", Transactions AMS, 366, 2014, 1551-1585.

On n-dependence
Published in Notre Dame J. Formal Logic, Volume 60, Number 2 (2019), 195-214 • View PublicationBIB
In this note we develop and clarify some of the basic combinatorial properties of the new notion of $n$-dependence (for $1\leq n < ω$) recently introduced by Shelah. In the same way as dependence of a theory means its inability to encode a bipartite random graph with a definable edge relation, $n$-dependence corresponds to the inability to encode a random $(n+1)$-partite $(n+1)$-hypergraph with a definable edge relation. Most importantly, we characterize $n$-dependence by counting $\varphi$-types over finite sets (generalizing Sauer-Shelah lemma and answering a question of Shelah) and in terms of the collapse of random ordered $(n+1)$-hypergraph indiscernibles down to order-indiscernibles (which implies that the failure of $n$-dependence is always witnessed by a formula in a single free variable).

On the number of Dedekind cuts and two-cardinal models of dependent theories
Published in J. Inst. Math. Jussieu 15 (2016) 771-784 • View PublicationBIB
For an infinite cardinal $κ$, let $dedκ$ denote the supremum of the number of Dedekind cuts in linear orders of size $κ$. It is known that $κ<dedκ\leq 2^κ$ for all $κ$ and that $dedκ<2^κ$ is consistent for any $κ$ of uncountable cofinality. We prove however that $2^κ\leq ded ( ded ( ded ( dedκ)))$ always holds. Using this result we calculate the Hanf numbers for the existence of two-cardinal models with arbitrarily large gaps and for the existence of arbitrarily large models omitting a type in the class of countable dependent first-order theories. Specifically, we show that these bounds are as large as in the class of all countable theories.
