Quantitative bounds for sets lacking polynomial progressions with shifted prime difference
We prove quantitative polynomial Szemerédi-type theorems involving polynomial progressions with shift parameter restricted to the set of shifted primes $\mathbb{P}-1$. The types of configurations covered are distinct degree progressions and progressions involving integer multiples of a fixed polynomial.
For nonlinear configurations of length at least three, these results provide the first quantitative versions of such theorems. In the linear case, our results improve on work by the last two authors. Our density bounds are strongest in the case of distinct degree polynomials, where they give polylogarithmic bounds, of the same shape as recent bounds by Shao and Wang with integer shifts.
The proofs combine recent quantitative results for polynomial configurations in the integers with quantitative Gowers uniformity bounds of the primes. For multiples of a fixed polynomial, we adapt a comparison argument of Altman and Sawhney to obtain uniformity over the polynomial families produced by the $W$-trick. For distinct degree progressions, we establish a comparison between prime-weighted and unweighted polynomial counts that is uniform throughout the density increment argument and accounts for a possible Siegel zero.
On Polynomial Progressions Inside Sets of Large Dimension
In this note we connect Sobolev estimates in the context of polynomial averages e.g. \[ \| \int_0^1 \prod_{k=1}^m f_k(x-t^k) \|_{1} \leq \text{Const} \cdot 2^{-\text{const} \cdot l} \prod_{i=1}^m \| f_k \|_m \] whenever some $f_i$ vanishes on $\{ |ξ| \leq 2^l \}$ to the existence of polynomial progressions inside of sets of sufficiently large Hausdorff dimension, in analogy with work of Peluse in the discrete context. Our strongest (unconditional) result builds off deep work of Hu-Lie and is as follows: suppose that $\mathcal{P} = \{P_1,P_2,P_3\}$ vanish at the origin at different rates, and that $E \subset [0,1]$ has sufficiently large Hausdorff dimension, \[ 1 - \text{const}(\mathcal{P}) < \text{dim}_H(E) < 1 \] and Hausdorff content bounded away from zero, sufficiently large in terms of its dimension. Then $E$ contains a non-trivial polynomial progression of the form \[ \{ x , x - P_1(t), x - P_2(t), x - P_3(t) \} \subset E, \; \; \; t \neq 0. \] We also provide a short proof that whenever $E$ has sufficiently large Hausdorff dimension and Fourier dimension $> 1/2$, it necessarily contains a non-trivial generalized three-term arithmetic progression of the form \[ \{ x, x - θ_1 t, x- θ_2 t\} \subset E, \; \; \; θ_i \in \mathbb{Q},\ t \neq 0.\]

Let $P_1, \ldots, P_m \in K[y]$ be polynomials with distinct degrees, no constant terms and coefficients in a general locally compact topological field $K$. We give a quantitative count of the number of polynomial progressions $x, x+P_1(y), \ldots, x + P_m(y)$ lying in a set $S\subseteq K$ of positive density. The proof relies on a general $L^{\infty}$ inverse theorem which is of independent interest. This inverse theorem implies a Sobolev improving estimate for multilinear polynomial averaging operators which in turn implies our quantitative estimate for polynomial progressions. This general Sobolev inequality has the potential to be applied in a number of problems in real, complex and $p$-adic analysis.
On Maximal Functions With Curvature
We exhibit a class of "relatively curved" $\vecγ(t) := (γ_1(t),\dots,γ_n(t))$, so that the pertaining multi-linear maximal function satisfies the sharp range of Hölder exponents, \[ \left\| \sup_{r > 0} \ \frac{1}{r} \int_{0}^r \prod_{i=1}^n |f_i(x-γ_i(t))| \ dt \right\|_{L^p(\mathbb{R})} \leq C \cdot \prod_{i=1}^n \| f_j \|_{L^{p_j}(\mathbb{R})} \] whenever $\frac{1}{p} = \sum_{j=1}^n \frac{1}{p_j}$, where $p_j > 1$ and $p \geq p_{\vecγ}$, where $1 \geq p_{\vecγ} > 1/n$ for certain curves.
For instance, $p_{\vecγ} = 1/n^+$ for the case of fractional monomials, \[ \vecγ(t) = (t^{α_1},\dots,t^{α_n}), \; \; \; α_1 < \dots < α_n.\] Two sample applications of our method are as follows:
For any measurable $u_1,\dots,u_n : \mathbb{R}^{n} \to \mathbb{R}$, with $u_i$ independent of the $i$th coordinate vector, and any relatively curved $\vecγ$, \[ \lim_{r \to 0} \ \frac{1}{r} \int_0^r F\big(x_1 - u_1(x) \cdot γ_1(t),\dots,x_n - u_n(x) \cdot γ_n(t) \big) \ dt = F(x_1,\dots,x_n), \; \; \; a.e. \] for every $F \in L^p(\mathbb{R}^n), \ p > 1$.
Every appropriately normalized set $A \subset [0,1]$ of sufficiently large Hausdorff dimension contains the progression, \[ \{ x, x-γ_1(t),\dots,x - γ_n(t) \} \subset A, \] for some $t \geq c_{\vecγ} > 0$ strictly bounded away from zero, depending on $\vecγ$.
A Non-Linear Roth Theorem for Fractals of Sufficiently Large Dimension
Suppose that $d \geq 2$, and that $A \subset [0,1]$ has sufficiently large dimension, $1 - ε_d < \dim_H(A) < 1$. Then for any polynomial $P$ of degree $d$ with no constant term, there exists a point configuration $\{ x, x-t,x-P(t) \} \subset A$ with $t \approx_P 1$.
A Non-Linear Roth Theorem for Sets of Positive Density
Suppose that $A \subset \mathbb{R}$ has positive upper density, \[ \limsup_{|I| \to \infty} \frac{|A \cap I|}{|I|} = δ> 0,\] and $P(t) \in \mathbb{R}[t]$ is a polynomial with no constant or linear term, or more generally a non-flat curve: a locally differentiable curve which doesn't "resemble a line" near $0$ or $\infty$. Then for any $R_0 \leq R$ sufficiently large, there exists some $x_R \in A$ so that \[ \inf_{R_0 \leq T \leq R} \frac{|\{ 0 \leq t < T : x_R - t \in A, \ x_R - P(t) \in A \}|}{T} \geq c_P \cdot δ^2 \] for some absolute constant $c_P > 0$, that depends only on $P$.
Dimension-Free $L^p$-Maximal Inequalities in $\mathbb{Z}_{m+1}^N$
For $m \geq 2$, let $(\mathbb{Z}_{m+1}^N, |\cdot|)$ denote the group equipped with the so-called $l^0$ metric,
\[ |y| = \left| \big( y(1), \dots, y(N) \big) \right| := | \{1 \leq i \leq N : y(i) \neq 0 \} |,\] and define the $L^1$-normalized indicator of the $r$-sphere, \[ σ_r := \frac{1}{|\{|x| = r\}|} 1_{\{|x| =r\}}.\] We study the $L^p \to L^p$ mapping properties of the maximal operator \[ M^{N} f (x) := \sup_{r \leq N} | σ_r*f| \] acting on functions defined on $\mathbb{Z}_{m+1}^N$.
Specifically, we prove that for all $p>1$, there exist absolute constants $C_{m,p}$ so that \[ \| M^{N} f \|_{L^p(\mathbb{Z}_{m+1}^N)} \leq C_{m,p} \| f \|_{L^p(\mathbb{Z}_{m+1}^N)} \] for all $N$.

We extend the main result of Harrow, Kolla, and Schulman -- the existence of dimension-free $L^2$-bounds for the spherical maximal function in the hypercube -- to all $L^p, p > 1$. Our approach is motivated by the spectral technique developed by Stein and Nevo and Stein in the context of pointwise ergodic theorems on general groups. We provide an example which demonstrates that no dimension-free weak-type (1-1) bound exists at the endpoint.
