Graph Sensitivity under Join and Decomposition
The sensitivity, $σ(G)$, of a finite undirected simple graph $G$ is the smallest maximum degree of an induced subgraph on more than the maximum number of independent vertices. Call an indexed family of graphs $G_n$ with maximum degree $Δ(G_n) \to \infty$ as $n \to \infty$ sensitive if $σ(G_n) \to \infty$, and insensitive otherwise. We describe sensitivity under the join operation and decomposition into stable blocks and construct sensitive and insensitive, primarily non-regular, graph families. We determine the sensitivity explicitly for numerous singly- and doubly-indexed graph families, including certain generalized joins - e.g., complete multipartite graphs and some generalized windmill graphs; general rooted products; and families of corona graphs.

Degree-One Rational Cherednik Algebras for the Symmetric Group
Published in SIGMA 17 (2021), 039, 35 pages • View PublicationBIB
Drinfeld orbifold algebras deform skew group algebras in polynomial degree at most one and hence encompass graded Hecke algebras, and in particular symplectic reflection algebras and rational Cherednik algebras. We introduce parametrized families of Drinfeld orbifold algebras for symmetric groups acting on doubled representations that generalize rational Cherednik algebras by deforming in degree one. We characterize rich families of maps recording commutator relations with their linear parts supported only on and only off the identity when the symmetric group acts on the natural permutation representation plus its dual. This produces degree-one versions of $\mathfrak{gl}_n$-type rational Cherednik algebras. When the symmetric group acts on the standard irreducible reflection representation plus its dual there are no degree-one Lie orbifold algebra maps, but there is a three-parameter family of Drinfeld orbifold algebras arising from maps supported only off the identity. These provide degree-one generalizations of the $\mathfrak{sl}_n$-type rational Cherednik algebras $H_{0,c}$.
Connectedness of two-sided group digraphs and graphs
Published in Involve 11 (2018) 679-699 • View PublicationBIB
Two-sided group digraphs and graphs, introduced by Iradmusa and Praeger, provide a generalization of Cayley digraphs and graphs in which arcs are determined by left and right multiplying by elements of two subsets of the group. We characterize when two-sided group digraphs and graphs are weakly and strongly connected and count connected components, using both an explicit elementary perspective and group actions. Our results and examples address four open problems posed by Iradmusa and Praeger that concern connectedness and valency. We pose five new open problems.

Drinfeld Orbifold Algebras for Symmetric Groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
Drinfeld orbifold algebras are a type of deformation of skew group algebras generalizing graded Hecke algebras of interest in representation theory, algebraic combinatorics, and noncommutative geometry. In this article, we classify all Drinfeld orbifold algebras for symmetric groups acting by the natural permutation representation. This provides, for nonabelian groups, infinite families of examples of Drinfeld orbifold algebras that are not graded Hecke algebras. We include explicit descriptions of the maps recording commutator relations and show there is a one-parameter family of such maps supported only on the identity and a three-parameter family of maps supported only on 3-cycles and 5-cycles. Each commutator map must satisfy properties arising from a Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt condition on the algebra, and our analysis of the properties illustrates reduction techniques using orbits of group element factorizations and intersections of fixed point spaces.

Spectra of Cayley Graphs of Complex Reflection Groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
Renteln proved that the eigenvalues of the distance matrix of a Cayley graph of a real reflection group with respect to the set of all reflections are integral and provided a combinatorial formula for some such spectra. We prove the eigenvalues of the distance, adjacency, and codimension matrices of Cayley graphs of complex reflection groups with connection sets consisting of all reflections are integral and provide a combinatorial formula for the codimension spectra for a family of monomial complex reflection groups.

Hamiltonian cycles in Cayley graphs of imprimitive complex reflection groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
Generalizing a result of Conway, Sloane, and Wilkes for real reflection groups, we show the Cayley graph of an imprimitive complex reflection group with respect to standard generating reflections has a Hamiltonian cycle. This is consistent with the long-standing conjecture that for every finite group, G, and every set of generators, S, of G the undirected Cayley graph of G with respect to S has a Hamiltonian cycle.

Dominant regions in noncrystallographic hyperplane arrangements
Published • View PublicationBIB
For a crystallographic root system, dominant regions in the Catalan hyperplane arrangement are in bijection with antichains in a partial order on the positive roots. For a noncrystallographic root system, the analogous arrangement and regions have importance in the representation theory of an associated graded Hecke algebra. Since there is also an analogous root order, it is natural to hope that a similar bijection can be used to understand these regions. We show that such a bijection does hold for type $H_3$ and for type $I_2(m)$, including arbitrary ratio of root lengths when $m$ is even, but does not hold for type $H_4$. We give a criterion that explains this failure and a list of the 16 antichains in the $H_4$ root order which correspond to empty regions.
