Fuglede's Conjecture on Cyclic Groups of Square-Free Order: The Case of Rapidly Growing Prime Factors
The main result of the paper is that an inductive argument is established to prove the Fuglede's conjecture for an infinite sequence of square-free order cyclic groups. The tile-to-spectral direction of the conjecture holds for all square-free cyclic groups, whereas we prove the spectral-tiling direction only for those groups among them whose prime factors grow rapidly. To achieve this, we develop an inductive technique with roots in a previous paper by the author co-authored with Fallon, Kiss, and Mayeli. Following recent preprints, Fuglede's conjecture remains open only for finite cyclic groups, and until now, there was no cyclic group for which the conjecture was known that possessed an arbitrary number of distinct divisors.
Cylinder type and $p$-divisible sets in $\mathbb{F}_p^3$
A set of points $S \subseteq \mathbb{F}_p^n$ is called \emph{$p$-divisible} if every affine hyperplane in $\mathbb{F}_p^n$ intersects $S$ in $0 \pmod p$ points. The Strong Cylinder Conjecture of Ball asserts that if
$S$ is a $p$-divisible set of $p^2$ points in $\mathbb{F}_p^3$, then $S$ is a cylinder. In this paper, we show that every $p$-divisible multiset $S$ is both a $\mathbb{F}_p$-linear and $\mathbb{Z}$-linear combination of characteristic functions of cylinders. In addition, the multisets of size $p^2$ are $\Z$-linear combinations of a plane and weighted differences of parallel lines.
Lower bounds for mask polynomials with many cyclotomic divisors
Given a nonempty set $A \subset \mathbb{N}\cup\{0\}$, define the mask polynomial $A(X)=\sum_{a\in A} X^a$. Suppose that there are $s_1,\dots,s_k\in\nn\setminus\{1\}$ such that the cyclotomic polynomials $Φ_{s_1},\dots,Φ_{s_k}$ divide $A(X)$. What is the smallest possible size of $A$? For $k=1$, this was answered by Lam and Leung in 2000. Less is known about the case when $k\geq 2$; in particular, one may ask whether (similarly to the $k=1$ case) the optimal configurations have a simple ``fibered" structure on each scale involved. We prove that this is true in a number of special cases, but false in general, even if further strong structural assumptions are added. Results of this type are expected to have a broad range of applications, including Favard length of product Cantor sets, Fuglede's spectral set conjecture, and the Coven-Meyerowitz conjecture on integer tilings.
The generalized trifference problem
We study the problem of finding the largest number $T(n, m)$ of ternary vectors of length $n$ such that for any three distinct vectors there are at least $m$ coordinates where they pairwise differ.
For $m = 1$, this is the classical trifference problem which is wide open.
We prove upper and lower bounds on $T(n, m)$ for various ranges of the parameter $m$ and determine the phase transition threshold on $m=m(n)$ where $T(n, m)$ jumps from constant to exponential in $n$.
By relating the linear version of this problem to a problem on blocking sets in finite geometry, we give explicit constructions and probabilistic lower bounds.
We also compute the exact values of this function and its linear variation for small parameters.
Functional tilings and the Coven-Meyerowitz tiling conditions
Coven and Meyerowitz formulated two conditions which have since been conjectured to characterize all finite sets that tile the integers by translation. By periodicity, this conjecture is reduced to sets which tile a finite cyclic group $\mathbb{Z}_M$. In this paper we consider a natural relaxation of this problem, where we replace sets with nonnegative functions $f,g$, such that $f(0)=g(0)=1$, $f\ast g=\mathbf{1}_{\mathbb{Z}_M}$ is a functional tiling, and $f, g$ satisfy certain further natural properties associated with tilings. We show that the Coven-Meyerowitz tiling conditions do not necessarily hold in such generality. Such examples of functional tilings carry the potential to lead to proper tiling counterexamples to the Coven-Meyerowitz conjecture in the future.
A lonely weak tile
The notion of weak tiling was a key ingredient in the proof of Fuglede's spectral set conjecture for convex bodies \cite{conv}, due to the fact that every spectral set tiles its complement weakly with a suitable Borel measure. In this paper we review the concept of weak tiling, and answer a question raised in \cite{weak} by giving an example of a set $T$ which tiles its complement weakly, but $T$ is neither spectral, nor a proper tile.
On polynomials of small range sum
In order to reprove an old result of Rédei's on the number of directions determined by a set of cardinality $p$ in $\mathbb{F}_p^2$, Somlai proved that the non-constant polynomials over the field $\mathbb{F}_p$ whose range sums are equal to $p$ are of degree at least $\frac{p-1}{2}$. Here the summand in the range sum are considered as integers from the interval $[0,p-1]$. In this paper we characterise all of these polynomials having degree exactly $\frac{p-1}{2}$, if $p$ is large enough. As a consequence, for the same set of primes we re-establish the characterisation of sets with few determined directions due to Lovász and Schrijver using discrete Fourier analysis.

Rédei and Megyesi proved that the number of directions determined by a $p$ element subset of $\mathbb{F}_p^2$ is either $1$ or at least $\frac{p+3}{2}$. The same result was independently obtained by Dress, Klin and Muzychuk. We give a new and short proof of this result using a Lemma proved by Kiss and the author. The new proof further on a result on polynomials over finite fields.

We discuss the relation of tiling, weak tiling and spectral sets in finite abelian groups. In particular, in elementary $p$-groups $(\mathbb{Z}_p)^d$, we introduce an averaging procedure that leads to a natural object of study: a 4-tuple of functions which can be regarded as a common generalization of tiles and spectral sets. We characterize such 4-tuples for $d=1, 2$, and prove some partial results for $d=3$.
CI-property of $C_p^2 \times C_n$ and $C_p^2 \times C_q^2$ for digraphs
We prove that the direct product of two coprime order elementary abelian groups of rank two, as well as the direct product of a cyclic group of prime order and a cyclic group of square free order are DCI-groups. The latter is a generalization of Muzychuk's result on cyclic groups (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 1995).

In this paper we study the number of special directions of sets of cardinality divisible by $p$ on a finite plane of characteristic $p$, where $p$ is a prime. We show that there is no such a set with exactly two special directions. We characterise sets with exactly 3 special directions which answers a question of Ghidelli in negative. Further we introduce methods to construct sets of minimal cardinality that has exactly 4 special directions for small values of $p$.

We investigate the discrete Fuglede's conjecture and Pompeiu problem on finite abelian groups and develop a strong connection between the two problems. We give a geometric condition under which a multiset of a finite abelian group has the discrete Pompeiu property. Using this description and the revealed connection we prove that Fuglede's conjecture holds for $\mathbb{Z}_{p^n q^2}$, where $p$ and $q$ are different primes. In particular, we show that every spectral subset of $\mathbb{Z}_{p^n q^2}$ tiles the group. Further, using our combinatorial methods we give a simple proof for the statement that Fuglede's conjecture holds for $\mathbb{Z}_p^2$.

In this paper we study finite groups which have Cayley isomorphism property with respect to Cayley maps, CIM-groups for a brief. We show that the structure of the CIM-groups is very restricted. It is described in Theorem~\ref{111015a} where a short list of possible candidates for CIM-groups is given. Theorem~\ref{111015c} provides concrete examples of infinite series of CIM-groups.

For every infinite sequence of simple groups of Lie type of growing rank we exhibit connected Cayley graphs of degree at most 10 such that the isoperimetric number of these graphs converges to 0. This proves that these graphs do not form a family of expanders.

For every prime $p > 2$ we exhibit a Cayley graph of $\mathbb{Z}_p^{2p+3}$ which is not a CI-graph. This proves that an elementary Abelian $p$-group of rank greater than or equal to $2p+3$ is not a CI-group. The proof is elementary and uses only multivariate polynomials and basic tools of linear algebra. Moreover, we apply our technique to give a uniform explanation for the recent works concerning the bound.
