Dirac-type Theorems for Inhomogenous Random Graphs
In this paper, we study Dirac-type theorems for an inhomogenous random graph (G) whose edge probabilities are not necessarily all the same. We obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of Hamiltonian paths and perfect matchings, in terms of the \emph{sum} of edge probabilities. For edge probability assignments with two-sided bounds, we use Pósa rotation and single vertex exclusion techniques to show that (G) is Hamiltonian with high probability. For weaker one-sided bounds, we use bootstrapping techniques to obtain a perfect matching in (G,) with high probability. We also highlight an application of our results in the context of channel assignment problem in wireless networks.

Critical Exponent for the Acyclic Chromatic Number of Random Graphs
In this paper we study acyclic colouring in the random subgraph $\mathit{G}$ of the complete graph $\mathit{K}_n$ on $\mathit{n}$ vertices where each edge is present with probability $\mathit{p}$; independent of the other edges. We show that the acyclic chromatic number exhibits a phase transition from sublinear to linear growth as the edge probability increases, even in the sparse regime and obtain estimates for the critical exponent. Next, we introduce a relaxation by allowing for a small fraction of "bad" cycles to violate the acyclic colouring condition and show that the critical exponent in this case is in fact zero, no matter how small the fraction.

Linearity Property of Unique Colourings in Random Graphs
In this paper, we study unique colourings in random graphs as a generalization of both conflict-free and injective colourings. Specifically, we impose the condition that a fraction of vertices in the neighbourhood of any vertex are assigned unique colours and use vertex partitioning and the probabilistic method to show that the minimum number of colours needed grows linearly with the uniqueness parameter, unlike both conflict-free and injective colourings. We argue how the unboundedness of the vertex neighbourhoods influences the linearity property and illustrate our case with an example involving treeunique colourings in random graphs.

Linearity and Local Correctness in Weighted Colourings of Random Graphs
In this paper, we consider a weighted generalization of the chromatic number of a Binomial random graph~\(G.\) We equip each edge with a random weight and then colour the vertices in such a way that the absolute colour difference between any two adjacent vertices is at least as large as their edge weight. We show that with high probability, the weighted colouring number grows linearly with the maximum vertex degree if the edge weights have sufficiently large moments. Conversely, if the edge weight moments are unbounded then the weighted chromatic number is much larger than the maximum vertex degree, with high probability. We also obtain a sharp threshold result for locally correct weighted colourings for balanced subgraphs of~\(G.\)

Probabilistic Bounds for Data Storage with Feature Selection and Undersampling
In this paper we consider data storage from a probabilistic point of view and obtain bounds for efficient storage in the presence of feature selection and undersampling, both of which are important from the data science perspective. First, we consider encoding of correlated sources for nonstationary data and obtain a Slepian-Wolf type result for the probability of error. We then reinterpret our result by allowing one source to be the set of features to be discarded and other source to be remaining data to be encoded. Next, we consider neighbourhood domination in random graphs where we impose the condition that a fraction of neighbourhood must be present for each vertex and obtain optimal bounds on the minimum size of such a set. We show how such sets are useful for data undersampling in the presence of imbalanced datasets and briefly illustrate our result using~\(k-\)nearest neighbours type classification rules as an example.

A Probabilistic Model for Data Redundancy in the Feature Domain
In this paper, we use a probabilistic model to estimate the number of uncorrelated features in a large dataset. Our model allows for both pairwise feature correlation (collinearity) and interdependency of multiple features (multicollinearity) and we use the probabilistic method to obtain upper and lower bounds of the same order, for the size of a feature set that exhibits low collinearity and low multicollinearity. We also prove an auxiliary result regarding mutually good constrained sets that is of independent interest.

Linear Eulerian Extensions of Inhomogenous Random Graphs
The Eulerian extension number of any graph~\(H\) (i.e. the minimum number of edges needed to be added to make~\(H\) Eulerian) is at least~\(t(H),\) half the number of odd degree vertices of~\(H.\) In this paper we consider an inhomogenous random graph~\(G\) whose edge probabilities need not all be the same and use an iterative probabilistic method to obtain sufficient conditions for the Eulerian extension number of~\(G\) to grow \emph{linearly} with~\(t(G).\) We derive our conditions in terms of the average edge probabilities and edge density and also briefly illustrate our result with an example.

Edge Constrained Eulerian Extensions
In this paper we study Eulerian extensions with edge constraints and use the probabilistic method to establish sufficient conditions for a given connected graph to be a subgraph of a Eulerian graph containing $m$ edges, for a given number $m$.

Coloured and Dependent Planar Matchings of Random Bipartite Graphs
In this paper, we study two problems related to planar matchings in random bipartite graphs. First, we colour each edge of the complete bipartite graph $K_{n,n}$ uniformly randomly from amongst ${r}$ colours and show that if ${r}$ grows linearly with ${n}$ then the maximum rainbow matching is a non-trivial fraction of ${r}$ with high probability, i.e. with probability converging to one as ${n \rightarrow \infty}$ Next we consider planar matchings in a dependent setting where each vertex is forced to choose exactly one neighbour from amongst all possible choices. We obtain estimates for the largest size of a planar matching and also discuss the implication of our results to longest increasing subsequences in enlarged random permutations.

Redundancy of Codes with Graph Constraints
In this paper, we study the redundancy of linear codes with graph constraints. First we consider linear parity check codes based on bipartite graphs with diversity and with generalized graph constraints. We describe sufficient conditions on the constraint probabilities and use the probabilistic method to obtain linear codes that achieve the Gilbert-Varshamov redundancy bound in addition to satisfying the constraints and the diversity index. In the second part we consider a generalization of graph capacity which we call as the fractional graph capacity and use the probabilistic method to determine bounds on the fractional capacity for arbitrary graphs. Specifically, we establish an upper bound in terms of the full graph capacity and a lower bound in terms of the average and maximum vertex degree of the graph.

A Schwartz-Zippel Type Estimate for Homogenous Finite Field Polynomials
In this paper, we obtain a Schwartz-Zippel type estimate for homogenous finite field polynomials. Specifically, we use a probabilistic recursion technique to find upper and lower bounds for the number of zeros of a homogenous polynomial and illustrate our result with two examples involving perfect matching in bipartite graphs and common zeros in a collection of polynomials, respectively.

Strong Identification Codes for Graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
For any graph~\(G,\) a set of vertices~\({\cal V}\) is said to be dominating if every vertex of~\(G\) contains at least one node of~\(G\) and separating if each vertex~\(v\) contains a unique neighbour~\(u_v \in {\cal V}\) that is adjacent to no other vertex of~\(G.\) If~\({\cal V}\) is both dominating and separating, then~\({\cal V}\) is defined to be an identification code. In this paper, we study strong identification codes with an index~\(r,\) by imposing the constraint that each vertex of~\(G\) contains at least~\(r\) unique neighbours in~\({\cal V}.\) We use the probabilistic method to study both the minimum size of strong identification codes and the existence of graphs that allow an identification code with a given index.

Two Applications of Graph Minor Reduction
In this paper, we study two applications of graph minor reduction. In the first part of the paper, we introduce a variant of the boxicity, called strong boxicity, where the rectangular representation satisfies an additional condition that each rectangle contains at least one point not present in any other rectangle. We show how the strong boxicity of a graph~\(G\) can be estimated in terms of the strong boxicity of a minor~\(H\) and the number of edit operations needed to obtain~\(H\) from~\(G.\) In the second part of the paper, we consider false data injection (attack) in a flow graph~\(G\) and quantify the subsequent effect on the state of edges of~\(G\) via the \emph{edge variation factor}~\(θ.\) We use minor reduction techniques to obtain bounds on~\(θ\) in terms of the connectivity parameters of~\(G,\) when the attacker has complete knowledge of~\(G\) and also discuss stealthy attacks with partial knowledge of the flow graph.

Duality and Outermost Boundaries in Generalized Percolation Lattices
In this paper we consider a connected planar graph $G$ and impose conditions that results in $G$ having a percolation lattice-like cellular structure. Assigning each cell of $G$ to be either occupied or vacant, we describe the outermost boundaries of star and plus connected components in $G$. We then consider the dual graph of $G$ and impose conditions under which the dual is also a percolation lattice. Finally, using $G$ and its dual, we construct vacant cell cycles surrounding occupied components and study left right crossings and bond percolation in rectangles.

Let $\mathbb{F}$ be a finite field consisting of $q$ elements and let $n \geq 1$ be an integer. In this paper, we study the size of local Kakeya sets with respect to subsets of $\mathbb{F}^{n}$ and obtain upper and lower bounds for the minimum size of a (local) Kakeya set with respect to an arbitrary set ${\mathcal T} \subseteq \mathbb{F}^{n}.$

In this paper, we study the weight spectrum of linear codes with \emph{super-linear} field size and use the probabilistic method to show that for nearly all such codes, the corresponding weight spectrum is very close to that of a maximum distance separable (MDS) code.

Real-time error correction codes for deletable errors
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper we study codes for correcting deletable errors in binary words, where each bit is either retained, substituted, erased or deleted and the total number of errors is much smaller compared to the length of the codeword. We construct codes capable of correcting errors in the received codeword in real-time with small delay and low probability of decoding error.

Deviation Estimates for Eulerian Edit Numbers of Random Graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Consider the random graph~\(G(n,p)\) obtained by allowing each edge in the complete graph on~\(n\) vertices to be present with probability~\(p\) independent of the other edges. In this paper, we study the minimum number of edge edit operations needed to convert~\(G(n,p)\) into an Eulerian graph. We obtain deviation estimates for three types Eulerian edit numbers based on whether we perform only edge additions or only edge deletions or a combination of both and show that with high probability, roughly~\(\frac{n}{4}\) operations suffice in all three cases.

Recursive methods for some problems in coding and random permutations
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we study three applications of recursion to problems in coding and random permutations. First, we consider locally recoverable codes with partial locality and use recursion to estimate the minimum distance of such codes. Next we consider weighted lattice representative codes and use recursive subadditive techniques to obtain convergence of the minimum code size. Finally, we obtain a recursive relation involving cycle moments in random permutations and as an illustration, evaluate recursions for the mean and variance.
