A Combinatorial Approach to Root Multiplicities of a Special Type Rank 3 Kac-Moody Algebras
In this paper, we calculate the dimension of root spaces $\mathfrak{g}_λ$ of a special type rank $3$ Kac-Moody algebras $\mathfrak{g}$. We first introduce a special type of elements in $\mathfrak{g}$, which we call elements in standard form. Then, we prove that any root space is spanned by these elements. By calculating the number of linearly independent elements in standard form, we obtain a formula for the dimension of root spaces $\mathfrak{g}_λ$, which depends on the root $λ$.
W-Operator and Differential Equation for 3-Hurwitz Number
We consider a new type of Hurwitz number, the number of ordered transitive factorizations of an arbitrary permutation into d-cycles. In this paper, we focus on the special case d = 3. The minimal number of transitive factorizations of any permutation into 3-cycles has been worked out by David, Goulden and Jackson. Also, such factorizations for transpositions, the case d = 2, have been considered by Crescimanno and Taylor. Goulden and Jackson have proved the differential equation for the generating series of simple Hurwitz numbers. Based on their results, we use W-operator to prove a differential equation for the generating function of the new type Hurwitz number.

W-operators are differential operators on the polynomial ring. Mironov, Morosov and Natanzon construct the generalized Hurwitz numbers. They use the W-operator to prove a formula for the generating function of the generalized Hurwitz numbers. A special example of the W-operator is the cut-and-join operator. Goulden and Jackson use the cut-and-join operator to calculate the simple Hurwitz number. In this paper, we study the relation between W-operator W([d]) and the central elements in Sn. Based on the relation we find, we give another proof about a differential equation of the generating function of d-Hurwitz number.

Goulden and Jackson first introduced the cut-and-join operator. The cut-and-join is widely used in studying the Hurwitz number and many other topological recursion problems. Mironov, Morosov and Natanzon give a more general construction and call it W-operator W([n]). As a special case, the cut-and-join operator is W([2]). In this paper, we study the structure of W([n]). We prove that W([n]) can be written as the sum of n! terms and each term corresponds uniquely to a permutation in Sn. We also define the degree of each term. We prove that there is a correspondence between the terms of W([n]) with highest degree and the noncrossing partitions.
