A class of polyocollection ideals with quadratic Gröbner bases
In 2024, Cisto et al. introduced polyocollections and polyocollection ideals, which generalize the notions of collections of cells and inner $2$-minors ideals, respectively. In this paper, we naturally extend the notions and results about zig-zag walk, zero-sum condition, rook number, and switching polynomial from collections of cells to polyocollections, and we define a class of polyocollections, called natural polyocollections, whose structure is similar to that of collections of cells. We focus on natural polyocollections whose polyocollection ideals admit quadratic Gröbner bases with respect to lexicographic order induced by some specific orders on vertices. Using the zero-sum condition, we prove the primality of this class of polyocollections, which shows that the zig-zag conjecture proposed by Mascia et al. holds true for collections of cells satisfying the aforementioned properties. Moreover, we show that $h$-polynomials and regularities of the coordinate rings of this class of polyocollections are equal to their switching rook polynomials and rook numbers, respectively. These results give positive answers to the switching rook polynomial conjecture proposed by Jahangir and Navarra, and the rook number open problem proposed by Rinaldo and Romeo for collections of cells satisfying the aforementioned properties.

Simple proofs of discretised projection theorems
We give a simple, short and self-contained presentation of Bourgain's discretised projection theorem from 2010, which is a fundamental tool in many recent breakthroughs in geometric measure theory, harmonic analysis, and homogeneous dynamics. Our main innovation is a short elementary argument that shows that a discretised subset of $\R$ satisfying a weak ``two-ends'' spacing condition is expanded by a polynomial to a set of positive Lebesgue measure.
Heilbronn's triangle problem in three dimensions
We show that among any $n$ points in the unit cube one can find a triangle of area at most $n^{-2/3-c}$ for some absolute constant $c >0$. This gives the first non-trivial upper bound for the three-dimensional version of Heilbronn's triangle problem. This estimate is a consequence of the following result about configurations of point-line pairs in $\mathbb R^3$: for $n \ge 2$ let $p_1, \ldots,p_n \in [0,1]^3$ be a collection of points and let $\ell_i$ be a line through $p_i$ for every $i$ such that $d(p_i, \ell_j) \ge δ$ for all $i\neq j$. Then we have $n \lesssim δ^{-3+γ}$ for some absolute constant $γ>0$. The analogous result about point-line configurations in the plane was previously established by Cohen, Pohoata and the last author.

Two-ends Furstenberg estimates in the plane
We prove two-ends Furstenberg estimates in the plane for a Katz-Tao $(δ,t)$-set of lines, for general $t\in[0,2]$.

Restriction estimates using decoupling theorems and two-ends Furstenberg inequalities
We propose to study the restriction conjecture using decoupling theorems and two-ends Furstenberg inequalities. Specifically, we pose a two-ends Furstenberg conjecture, which implies the restriction conjecture. As evidence, we prove this conjecture in the plane by using the Furstenberg set estimate. Moreover, we use this planar result to prove a restriction estimate for $p>22/7$ in three dimensions, which implies Wolff's $5/2$-hairbrush bound for Kakeya sets in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Our approach also makes improvements for the restriction conjecture in higher dimensions.

Symmetric Cayley graphs on non-abelian simple groups of valency 7
Let $Γ$ be a connected $7$-valent symmetric Cayley graph on a finite non-abelian simple group $G$. If $Γ$ is not normal, Li {\em et al.} [On 7-valent symmetric Cayley graphs of finite simple groups, J. Algebraic Combin. 56 (2022) 1097-1118] characterised the group pairs $(\mathrm{soc}(\mathrm{Aut}(Γ)/K),GK/K)$, where $K$ is a maximal intransitive normal subgroup of $\mathrm{Aut}(Γ)$. In this paper, we improve this result by proving that if $Γ$ is not normal, then $\mathrm{Aut}(Γ)$ contains an arc-transitive non-abelian simple normal subgroup $T$ such that $G<T$ and $(T,G)=(\mathrm{A}_{n},\mathrm{A}_{n-1})$ with $n=7$, $3\cdot 7$, $3^2\cdot 7$, $2^2\cdot 3\cdot 7$, $2^3\cdot3\cdot7$, $2^3\cdot3^2\cdot5\cdot7$, $2^4\cdot3^2\cdot5\cdot7$, $2^6\cdot3\cdot7$, $2^7\cdot3\cdot7$, $2^6\cdot3^2\cdot7$, $2^6\cdot3^4\cdot5^2\cdot7$, $2^8\cdot3^4\cdot5^2\cdot7$, $2^7\cdot3^4\cdot5^2\cdot7$, $2^{10}\cdot3^2\cdot7$, $2^{24}\cdot3^2\cdot7$. Furthermore, $\mathrm{soc}(\mathrm{Aut}(Γ)/R)=(T\times R)/R$, where $R$ is the largest solvable normal subgroup of $\mathrm{Aut}(Γ)$.

Furstenberg sets estimate in the plane
We fully resolve the Furstenberg set conjecture in $\mathbb{R}^2$, that a $(s, t)$-Furstenberg set has Hausdorff dimension $\ge \min(s+t, \frac{3s+t}{2}, s+1)$. As a result, we obtain an analogue of Elekes' bound for the discretized sum-product problem and resolve an orthogonal projection question of Oberlin.

Dimensions of Furstenberg sets and an extension of Bourgain's projection theorem
Published in Analysis & PDE 18 (2025) 265-278 • View PublicationBIB
We show that the Hausdorff dimension of $(s,t)$-Furstenberg sets is at least $s+t/2+ε$, where $ε>0$ depends only on $s$ and $t$. This improves the previously best known bound for $2s<t\le 1+ε(s,t)$, in particular providing the first improvement since 1999 to the dimension of classical $s$-Furstenberg sets for $s<1/2$. We deduce this from a corresponding discretized incidence bound under minimal non-concentration assumptions, that simultaneously extends Bourgain's discretized projection and sum-product theorems. The proofs are based on a recent discretized incidence bound of T.~Orponen and the first author and a certain duality between $(s,t)$ and $(t/2,s+t/2)$-Furstenberg sets.

Kaufman and Falconer estimates for radial projections and a continuum version of Beck's Theorem
Published in Geom. Funct. Anal. 34 (2024), no. 1, 164--201 • View PublicationBIB
We provide several new answers on the question: how do radial projections distort the dimension of planar sets? Let $X,Y \subset \mathbb{R}^{2}$ be non-empty Borel sets. If $X$ is not contained on any line, we prove that \[ \sup_{x \in X} \dim_{\mathrm{H}} π_{x}(Y) \geq \min\{\dim_{\mathrm{H}} X,\dim_{\mathrm{H}} Y,1\}. \] If $\dim_{\mathrm{H}} Y > 1$, we have the following improved lower bound: \[ \sup_{x \in X} \dim_{\mathrm{H}} π_{x}(Y \, \setminus \, \{x\}) \geq \min\{\dim_{\mathrm{H}} X + \dim_{\mathrm{H}} Y - 1,1\}. \] Our results solve conjectures of Lund-Thang-Huong, Liu, and the first author. Another corollary is the following continuum version of Beck's theorem in combinatorial geometry: if $X \subset \mathbb{R}^{2}$ is a Borel set with the property that $\dim_{\mathrm{H}} (X \, \setminus \, \ell) = \dim_{\mathrm{H}} X$ for all lines $\ell \subset \mathbb{R}^{2}$, then the line set spanned by $X$ has Hausdorff dimension at least $\min\{2\dim_{\mathrm{H}} X,2\}$. While the results above concern $\mathbb{R}^{2}$, we also derive some counterparts in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ by means of integralgeometric considerations. The proofs are based on an $ε$-improvement in the Furstenberg set problem, due to the two first authors, a bootstrapping scheme introduced by the second and third author, and a new planar incidence estimate due to Fu and Ren.

On the distance sets spanned by sets of dimension $d/2$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$
Published • View PublicationBIB
We establish the dimension version of Falconer's distance set conjecture for sets of equal Hausdorff and packing dimension (in particular, for Ahlfors-regular sets) in all ambient dimensions. In dimensions $d=2$ or $3$, we obtain the first explicit estimates for the dimensions of distance sets of general Borel sets of dimension $d/2$; for example, we show that the set of distances spanned by a planar Borel set of Hausdorff dimension $1$ has Hausdorff dimension at least $(\sqrt{5}-1)/2\approx 0.618$. In higher dimensions we obtain explicit estimates for the lower Minkowski dimension of the distance sets of sets of dimension $d/2$. These results rely on new estimates for the dimensions of radial projections that may have independent interest.

Let $L_n$ be a line graph with $n$ edges and $\F(L_n)$ the facet ideal of its matching complex. In this paper, we provide the irreducible decomposition of $\F(L_n)$ and some exact formulas for the projective dimension and the regularity of $\F(L_n)$.

Partition of a Subset into Two Directed Cycles with Partial Degrees
Let $D=(V,A)$ be a directed graph of order $n\geq 6$. Let $W$ be a subset of $V$ with $|W|\geq 6$. Suppose that every vertex of $W$ has degree at least $(3n-3)/2$ in $D$. Then for any integer partition $|W|=n_1+n_2$ with $n_1\geq 3$ and $n_2\geq 3$, $D$ contains two disjoint directed cycles $C_1$ and $C_2$ such that $|V(C_1)\cap W|=n_1$ and $|V(C_2)\cap W|=n_2$. We conjecture that for any integer partition $|W|=n_1+n_2+\cdots +n_k$ with $k\geq 3$ and $n_i\geq 3(1\leq i\leq k)$, $D$ contains $k$ disjoint directed cycles $C_1,C_2,\ldots , C_k$ such that $|V(C_i)\cap W|=n_i$ for all $1\leq i\leq k$. The degree condition is sharp in general.

Bounds of incidences between points and algebraic curves
We prove new bounds on the number of incidences between points and higher degree algebraic curves. The key ingredient is an improved initial bound, which is valid for all fields. Then we apply the polynomial method to obtain global bounds on $\mathbb{R}$ and $\mathbb{C}$.
