A constant lower bound for the union-closed sets conjecture
We show that for any union-closed family $\mathcal{F} \subseteq 2^{[n]}, \mathcal{F} \neq \{\emptyset\}$, there exists an $i \in [n]$ which is contained in a $0.01$ fraction of the sets in $\mathcal{F}$. This is the first known constant lower bound, and improves upon the $Ω(\log_2(|\mathcal{F}|)^{-1})$ bounds of Knill and Wójick. Our result follows from an information theoretic strengthening of the conjecture. Specifically, we show that if $A, B$ are independent samples from a distribution over subsets of $[n]$ such that $Pr[i \in A] < 0.01$ for all $i$ and $H(A) > 0$, then $H(A \cup B) > H(A)$.

In this paper, we prove a local limit theorem for the distribution of the number of triangles in the Erdos-Renyi random graph $G(n,p)$, where $p \in (0,1)$ is a fixed constant. Our proof is based on bounding the characteristic function $ψ(t)$ of the number of triangles, and uses several different conditioning arguments for handling different ranges of $t$.
On the Density of Happy Numbers

The happy function $H: \mathbb{N} \rightarrow \mathbb{N}$ sends a positive integer to the sum of the squares of its digits. A number $x$ is said to be happy if the sequence $\{H^n(x)\}^\infty_{n=1}$ eventually reaches one. A basic open question regarding happy numbers is what bounds on the density can be proved. This paper uses probabilistic methods to reduce this problem to experimentally finding suitably large intervals containing a high (or low) density of happy numbers as a subset. Specifically we show that $\bar{d} > .18577$ and $\underline{d} < .1138$. We also prove that the asymptotic density does not exist for several generalizations of happy numbers.
