On strong nodal domains for eigenfunctions of Hamming graphs
The Laplacian matrix of the $n$-dimensional hypercube has $n+1$ distinct eigenvalues $2i$, where $0\leq i\leq n$. In 2004, Bıyıkoğlu, Hordijk, Leydold, Pisanski and Stadler initiated the study of eigenfunctions of hypercubes with the minimum number of weak and strong nodal domains. In particular, they proved that for every $1\leq i\leq \frac{n}{2}$ there is an eigenfunction of the hypercube with eigenvalue $2i$ that have exactly two strong nodal domains. Based on computational experiments, they conjectured that the result also holds for all $1\leq i\leq n-2$. In this work, we confirm their conjecture for $i\leq \frac{2}{3}(n-\frac{1}{2})$ if $i$ is odd and for $i\leq \frac{2}{3}(n-1)$ if $i$ is even. We also consider this problem for the Hamming graph $H(n,q)$, $q\geq 3$ (for $q=2$, this graph coincides with the $n$-dimensional hypercube), and obtain even stronger results for all $q\geq 3$.

On extended perfect codes
We consider extended $1$-perfect codes in Hamming graphs $H(n,q)$. Such nontrivial codes are known only when $n=2^k$, $k\geq 1$, $q=2$, or $n=q+2$, $q=2^m$, $m\geq 1$. Recently, Bespalov proved nonexistence of extended $1$-perfect codes for $q=3$, $4$, $n>q+2$. In this work, we characterize all positive integers $n$, $r$ and prime $p$, for which there exist such a code in $H(n,p^r)$. We also consider $2$-perfect codes in Hamming $H(n,q)$ and Johnson graphs $J(n,w)$ and find new necessary conditions on there existence.
Completely regular codes with covering radius 1 and the second eigenvalue in 3-dimensional Hamming graphs
We obtain a classification of the completely regular codes with covering radius 1 and the second eigenvalue in the Hamming graphs H(3,q) up to q and intersection array. Due to works of Meyerowitz, Mogilnykh and Valyuzenich, our result completes the classifications of completely regular codes with covering radius 1 and the second eigenvalue in the Hamming graphs H(n,q) for any n and completely regular codes with covering radius 1 in H(3,q).

On binary codes with distances $d$ and $d+2$
We consider the problem of finding $A_2(n,\{d_1,d_2\})$ defined as the maximal size of a binary (non-linear) code of length $n$ with two distances $d_1$ and $d_2$. Binary codes with distances $d$ and $d+2$ of size $\sim\frac{n^2}{\frac{d}{2}(\frac{d}{2}+1)}$ can be obtained from $2$-packings of an $n$-element set by blocks of cardinality $\frac{d}{2}+1$. This value is far from the upper bound $A_2(n,\{d_1,d_2\})\le1+{n\choose2}$ proved recently by Barg et al. In this paper we prove that for every fixed $d$ ($d$ even) there exists an integer $N(d)$ such that for every $n\ge N(d)$ it holds $A_2(n,\{d,d+2\})=D(n,\frac{d}{2}+1,2)$, or, in other words, optimal codes are isomorphic to constant weight codes. We prove also estimates on $N(d)$ for $d=4$ and $d=6$.

We finish the classification of equitable 2-partitions of the Johnson graphs of diameter 3, $J(n,3)$, for $n>10$.
On the palindromic Hosoya polynomial of trees
Published • View PublicationBIB
A graph $G$ on $n$ vertices of diameter $D$ is called $H$-palindromic if $α(G,k) = α(G,D-k)$ for all $k=0, 1, \dots, \left \lfloor{\frac{D}{2}}\right \rfloor$, where $α(G,k)$ is the number of unordered pairs of vertices at distance $k$. Quantities $α(G,k)$ form coefficients of the Hosoya polynomial. In 1999, Caporossi, Dobrynin, Gutman and Hansen showed that there are exactly five $H$-palindromic trees of even diameter and conjectured that there are no such trees of odd diameter. We prove this conjecture for bipartite graphs. An infinite family of $H$-palindromic trees of diameter $6$ is also constructed.
Wiener index and graphs, almost half of whose vertices satisfy Šoltés property
Published • View PublicationBIB
The Wiener index $W(G)$ of a connected graph $G$ is a sum of distances between all pairs of vertices of $G$. In 1991, Šoltés formulated the problem of finding all graphs $G$ such that for every vertex $v$ the equation $W(G)=W(G-v)$ holds. The cycle $C_{11}$ is the only known graph with this property. In this paper we consider the following relaxation of the original problem: find a graph with a large proportion of vertices such that removing any one of them does not change the Wiener index of a graph. As the main result, we build an infinite series of graphs with the proportion of such vertices tending to $\frac{1}{2}$.

Equitable 2-partitions of Johnson graphs with the second eigenvalue
We study equitable 2-partitions of the Johnson graphs J(n,w) with a quotient matrix containing the eigenvalue lambda_2(w,n) = (w-2)(n-w-2)-2 in its spectrum. For any w>=4 and n>=2w, we find all admissible quotient matrices of such partitions, and characterize all these partitions for w>=4, n>2w, and for w>=7, n = 2w, up to equivalence.

On reconstruction of eigenfunctions of Johnson graphs
In the present work we consider the problem of a reconstruction of eigenfunctions of the Johnson graph $J(n,w)$. We give necessary and sufficient numerical conditions for a unique reconstruction of an eigenfunction with given eigenvalue by its values on a sphere of given radius $r$ for $n$ big enough. We also provide examples of functions equal on the sphere but not equal on the full vertex set in the case of a failure of these conditions.

Minimum supports of functions on the Hamming graphs with spectral constraints
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study functions defined on the vertices of the Hamming graphs $H(n,q)$. The adjacency matrix of $H(n,q)$ has $n+1$ distinct eigenvalues $n(q-1)-q\cdot i$ with corresponding eigenspaces $U_{i}(n,q)$ for $0\leq i\leq n$. In this work, we consider the problem of finding the minimum possible support (the number of nonzeros) of functions belonging to a direct sum $U_i(n,q)\oplus U_{i+1}(n,q)\oplus\ldots\oplus U_j(n,q)$ for $0\leq i\leq j\leq n$. For the case $n\geq i+j$ and $q\geq 3$ we find the minimum cardinality of the support of such functions and obtain a characterization of functions with the minimum cardinality of the support. In the case $n<i+j$ and $q\geq 4$ we also find the minimum cardinality of the support of functions, and obtain a characterization of functions with the minimum cardinality of the support for $i=j$, $n<2i$ and $q\geq 5$. In particular, we characterize eigenfunctions from the eigenspace $U_{i}(n,q)$ with the minimum cardinality of the support for cases $i\le \frac{n}{2}$,$q\ge 3$ and $i> \frac{n}{2}$,$\,q\ge 5$.
Minimum supports of eigenfunctions of Johnson graphs
We study the weights of eigenvectors of the Johnson graphs $J(n,w)$. For any $i \in \{1,\ldots,w\}$ and sufficiently large $n, n\geq n(i,w)$ we show that an eigenvector of $J(n,w)$ with the eigenvalue $λ_i=(n-w-i)(w-i)-i$ has at least $2^i(^{n-2i}_{w-i})$ nonzeros and obtain a characterization of eigenvectors that attain the bound.
