Weak saturation numbers of large complete bipartite graphs
An $n$-vertex graph $G$ is weakly $F$-saturated if $G$ contains no copy of $F$ and there exists an ordering of all edges in $E(K_n) \setminus E(G)$ such that, when added one at a time, each edge creates a new copy of $F$. The minimum size of a weakly $F$-saturated graph $G$ is called the weak saturation number $\mathrm{wsat}(n, F)$. We obtain exact values and new bounds for $\mathrm{wsat}(n, K_{s,t})$ in the previously unaddressed range $s+t < n < 3t-3$, where $3\leq s\leq t$. To prove lower bounds, we introduce a new method that takes into account connectivity properties of subgraphs of a complement $G'$ to a weakly saturated graph $G$. We construct an auxiliary hypergraph and show that a linear combination of its parameters always increases in the process of the deletion of edges of $G'$. This gives a lower bound which is tight, up to an additive constant.

Fractional hypergraph coloring
We investigate proper $(a:b)$-fractional colorings of $n$-uniform hypergraphs, which generalize traditional integer colorings of graphs. Each vertex is assigned $b$ distinct colors from a set of $a$ colors, and an edge is properly colored if no single color is shared by all vertices of the edge. A hypergraph is $(a:b)$-colorable if every edge is properly colored. We prove that for any $2\leq b\leq a-2\leq n/\ln n$, every $n$-uniform hypergraph $H$ with $ |E(H)| \leq (ab^3)^{-1/2}\left(\frac{n}{\log n}\right)^{1/2} \left(\frac{a}{b}\right)^{n-1} $ is proper $(a:b)$-colorable. We also address specific cases, including $(a:a-1)$-colorability.

On the upper tail of star counts in random graphs
Let $X$ count the number of $r$-stars in the random binomial graph $\mathbb{G}(n,p)$. We determine, for fixed $r$ and $\varepsilon > 0$, the asymptotics of $\log \mathbb{P}(X \ge (1 + \varepsilon)\mathbb{E} X)$ assuming only $\mathbb{E} X \to \infty$ and $p \to 0$ thus giving a first class of irregular graphs for which the upper tail problem for subgraph counts (stated by Janson and Ruciński in 2004) is solved in the sparse setting.
Bicrucial $k$-power-free permutations
In this work, we prove that for every $k\geq 3$ there exist arbitrarily long bicrucial $k$-power-free permutations. We also show that for every $k\geq 3$ there exist right-crucial $k$-power-free permutations of any length at least $(k-1)(2k+1)$.
Maximum induced trees and forests of bounded degree in random graphs
Asymptotic behaviour of maximum sizes of induced trees and forests has been studied extensively in last decades, though the overall picture is far from being complete. In this paper, we close several significant gaps: 1) We prove $2$-point concentration of the maximum sizes of an induced forest and an induced tree with maximum degree at most $Δ$ in dense binomial random graphs $G(n,p)$ with constant probability $p$. 2) We show concentration in an explicit interval of size $o(1/p)$ for the maximum size of an induced forest with maximum degree at most $Δ$ for $1/n\ll p=o(1)$. Our proofs rely on both the second moment approach, with the probabilistic part involving Talagrand's concentration inequality and the analytical part involving saddle-point analysis, and new results on enumeration of labelled trees and forests that might be of their own interest.
The maximum size of an induced forest in the binomial random graph
The celebrated Frieze's result about the independence number of $G(n,p)$ states that it is concentrated in an interval of size $o(1/p)$ for all $C_{\varepsilon}/n<p=o(1)$. We show concentration in an interval of size $o(1/p)$ for the maximum size (number of vertices) of an induced forest in $G(n,p)$ for all $C_{\varepsilon}/n<p<1-\varepsilon$. Presumably, it is the first generalization of Frieze's result to another class of induced subgraphs for such a range of $p$.
The continualization approach to the on-line hypergraph coloring
The paper deals with an algorithmic problem concerning combinatorial game theory. Here we introduce and analyze a continuous generalization of Chip Game from the work of Duraj, Gutowski and Kozik. The general Chip game was introduced by Aslam and Dhagat to model on-line type problems on hypergraph coloring.

EMSO(FO$^2$) 0-1 law fails for all dense random graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we disprove EMSO(FO$^2$) convergence law for the binomial random graph $G(n,p)$ for any constant probability $p$. More specifically, we prove that there exists an existential monadic second order sentence with 2 first order variables such that, for every $p\in(0,1)$, the probability that it is true on $G(n,p)$ does not converge.
Wiener index and graphs, almost half of whose vertices satisfy Šoltés property
Published • View PublicationBIB
The Wiener index $W(G)$ of a connected graph $G$ is a sum of distances between all pairs of vertices of $G$. In 1991, Šoltés formulated the problem of finding all graphs $G$ such that for every vertex $v$ the equation $W(G)=W(G-v)$ holds. The cycle $C_{11}$ is the only known graph with this property. In this paper we consider the following relaxation of the original problem: find a graph with a large proportion of vertices such that removing any one of them does not change the Wiener index of a graph. As the main result, we build an infinite series of graphs with the proportion of such vertices tending to $\frac{1}{2}$.

Chain method for panchromatic colorings of hypergraphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
We deal with an extremal problem concerning panchromatic colorings of hypergraphs. A vertex $r$-coloring of a hypergraph $H$ is \emph{panchromatic} if every edge meets every color. We prove that for every $3<r\leq\sqrt[3]{n/(100\ln n)}$, every $n$-uniform hypergraph $H$ with $|E(H)|\leq \frac{1}{20r^2}\left(\frac{n}{\ln n}\right)^{\frac {r-1}{r}}\left(\frac{r}{r-1}\right)^{n-1}$ has a panchromatic coloring with $r$ colors.

Coloring hypergraphs with bounded cardinalities of edge intersections
Published in Discrete Mathematics Volume 343, Issue 4, April 2020, 111692 • View PublicationBIB
The paper deals with an extremal problem concerning colorings of hypergraphs with bounded edge degrees. Consider the family of $b$-simple hypergraphs, in which any two edges do not share more than $b$ common vertices. We prove that for $n\geqslant n_0(b)$, any $n$-uniform $b$-simple hypergraph with the maximum edge degree at most $c\cdot nr^{n-b}$ is $r$-colorable, where $c>0$ is an absolute constant. We also establish some applications of the main result.

Equitable colorings of hypergraphs with few edges
Published in \emph{Discrete Applied Mathematics}, (2019), https://doi.org/10.1016/j.dam.2019.03.024 • View PublicationBIB
The paper deals with an extremal problem concerning equitable colorings of uniform hyper\-graph. Recall that a vertex coloring of a hypergraph $H$ is called proper if there are no monochro-matic edges under this coloring. A hypergraph is said to be equitably $r$-colorable if there is a proper coloring with $r$ colors such that the sizes of any two color classes differ by at most one. In the present paper we prove that if the number of edges $|E(H)|\leq 0.01\left(\frac{n}{\ln n}\right)^{\frac {r-1}{r}}r^{n-1}$ then the hypergraph $H$ is equitably $r$-colorable provided $r<\sqrt[5]{\ln n}$.
