A Bilinear Bogolyubov Argument in Abelian Groups
The bilinear Bogolyubov argument for $\mathbb{F}_p^n$ states that if we start with a dense set $A \subseteq \mathbb{F}_p^n \times \mathbb{F}_p^n$ and carry out sufficiently many steps where we replace every row or every column of $A$ by the set difference of it with itself, then inside the resulting set we obtain a bilinear variety of codimension bounded in terms of density of $A$. In this paper, we generalize the bilinear Bogolyubov argument to arbitrary finite abelian groups. Namely, if $G$ and $H$ are finite abelian groups and $A \subseteq G \times H$ is a subset of density $δ$, then the procedure above applied to $A$ results in a set that contains a bilinear analogue of a Bohr set, with the appropriately defined codimension bounded above by $\log^{O(1)} (O(δ^{-1}))$.
An inverse theorem for Freiman multi-homomorphisms
Let $G_1, \dots, G_k$ and $H$ be vector spaces over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$ of prime order. Let $A \subset G_1 \times\dots\times G_k$ be a set of size $δ|G_1| \cdots |G_k|$. Let a map $φ\colon A \to H$ be a multi-homomorphism, meaning that for each direction $d \in [k]$, and each element $(x_1, \dots, x_{d-1}, x_{d+1}, \dots, x_k)$ of $G_1\times\dots\times G_{d-1}\times G_{d+1}\times \dots\times G_k$, the map that sends each $y_d$ such that $(x_1, \dots,$ $x_{d-1},$ $y_d,$ $x_{d+1}, \dots,$ $x_k) \in A$ to $φ(x_1, \dots,$ $x_{d-1},$ $y_d,$ $x_{d+1}, \dots,$ $x_k)$ is a Freiman homomorphism (of order 2). In this paper, we prove that for each such map, there is a multiaffine map $Φ\colon G_1 \times\dots\times G_k \to H$ such that $φ= Φ$ on a set of density $\Big(\exp^{(O_k(1))}(O_{k,p}(δ^{-1}))\Big)^{-1}$, where $\exp^{(t)}$ denotes the $t$-fold exponential.
Applications of this theorem include:
$\bullet$ a quantitative inverse theorem for approximate polynomials mapping $G$ to $H$, for finite-dimensional $\mathbb{F}_p$-vector spaces $G$ and $H$, in the high-characteristic case,
$\bullet$ a quantitative inverse theorem for uniformity norms over finite fields in the high-characteristic case, and
$\bullet$ a quantitative structure theorem for dense subsets of $G_1 \times\dots\times G_k$ that are subspaces in the principal directions (without additional characteristic assumptions).

Let $G_1, \dots, G_k$ be finite-dimensional vector spaces over a finite field $\mathbb{F}$. A multilinear variety of codimension $d$ is a subset of $G_1 \times \dots \times G_k$ defined as the zero set of $d$ forms, each of which is multilinear on some subset of the coordinates. A map $φ$ defined on a multilinear variety $B$ is multilinear if for each coordinate $d$ and all choices of $x_i \in G_i$, $i\not=d$, the restriction map $y \mapsto φ(x_1, \dots, x_{d-1}, y, x_{d+1}, \dots, x_k)$ is linear where defined. In this note, we show that a multilinear map defined on a multilinear variety of codimension $d$ coincides on a multilinear variety of codimension $d^{O(1)}$ with a multilinear map defined on the whole of $G_1\times\dots\times G_k$.

A theorem of Bogolyubov states that for every dense set $A$ in $\mathbb{Z}_N$ we may find a large Bohr set inside $A+A-A-A$. In this note, motivated by the work on a quantitative inverse theorem for the Gowers $U^4$ norm, we prove a bilinear variant of this result in vector spaces over finite fields. Namely, if we start with a dense set $A \subset \mathbb{F}^n_p \times \mathbb{F}^n_p$ and then take rows (respectively columns) of $A$ and change each row (respectively column) to the set difference of it with itself, repeating this procedure several times, we obtain a bilinear analogue of a Bohr set inside the resulting set, namely the zero set of a biaffine map from $\mathbb{F}^n_p \times \mathbb{F}^n_p$ to a $\mathbb{F}_p$-vector space of bounded dimension. An almost identical result was proved independently by Bienvenu and Lê.
