Explicit solution of system of two higher-order recurrences
We give a method to determine an explicit solution to a system of two inhomogeneous linear recursive sequences of higher order. Our approach can be used efficiently in solving certain combinatorial problems. We finish the paper by considering a tiling problem with black and white dominoes, and we use the method as a demonstration to find the solution.
The Fibonacci-Fubini and Lucas-Fubini numbers
Based on the combinatorial interpretation of the ordered Bell numbers, which count all the ordered partitions of the set $[n]=\{1,2,\dots,n\}$, we introduce the Fibonacci partition as a Fibonacci permutation of its blocks. Then we define the Fibonacci-Fubini numbers that count the total number of Fibonacci partitions of $[n]$. We study the classical properties of this sequence (generating function, explicit and Dobiński-like formula, etc.), we give combinatorial interpretation, and we extensively examine the Fibonacci-Fubini arithmetic triangle. We give some associate linear recurrence sequences, where in some sequences the Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds appear as well.

Walks on tiled boards
Several articles deal with tilings with various shapes, and also a very frequent type of combinatorics is to examine the walks on graphs or on grids. We combine these two things and give the numbers of the shortest walks crossing the tiled $(1\times n)$ and $(2\times n)$ square grids by covering them with squares and dominoes. We describe these numbers not only recursively, but also as rational polynomial linear combinations of Fibonacci numbers.

Sequences involving square zig-zag shapes
Published in Journal of Integer Sequences, Vol. 24 (2021), Article 21.5.2 • Search Publication
We define a so-called square $k$-zig-zag shape as a part of the regular square grid. Considering the shape as a $k$-zig-zag digraph, we give values of its vertices according to the number of the shortest paths from a base vertex. It provides several integer sequences, whose higher-order homogeneous recurrences are determined by the help of a special matrix recurrence.

Tilings of $(2\times2\times n)$-board with colored cubes and bricks
Published in Internat. J. Math. Ed. Sci. Tech., 51(5), (2020), 786-798 • View PublicationBIB
Several articles deal with tilings with squares and dominoes on 2-dimensional boards, but only a few on boards in 3-dimensional space. We examine a tiling problem with colored cubes and bricks of $(2\times2\times n)$-board in three dimensions. After a short introduction and the definition of breakability we show a way to get the number of the tilings of an $n$-long board considering the $(n-1)$-long board. It describes recursively the number of possible breakable and unbreakable tilings. Finally, we give some identities for the recursions using breakability. The method of determining the recursions in space can be useful in mathematical education as well.

Tetrahedron trinomial coefficient transform
Published in Integers, 19 (2019) A41 • Search Publication
We introduce the tetrahedron trinomial coefficient transform which takes a Pascal-like arithmetical triangle to a sequence. We define a Pascal-like infinite tetrahedron H, and prove that the application of the tetrahedron trinomial transform to one face T of H provides the opposite edge E to T in H. It follows from the construction that the other directions in H parallel to E can be obtained similarly. In case of Pascal's triangle the sequence generated by the trinomial transform coincides the binomial transform of the central binomial coefficients.

The trinomial transform triangle
Published in Journal of Integer Sequences, 21(7), (2018), Article 18.7.3 • Search Publication
The trinomial transform of a sequence is a generalization of the well-known binomial transform, replacing binomial coefficients with trinomial coefficients. We examine Pascal-like triangles under trinomial transform, focusing on the ternary linear recurrent sequences. We determine the sums and alternating sums of the elements in columns, and we give some examples of the trinomial transform triangle.

On sunlet graphs connected to a specific map on $\{1,2,\dots,p-1\}$
Published in Annales Mathematicae et Informaticae, 49 (2018) 101-107 • View PublicationBIB
In this article, we study the structure of the graph implied by a given map on the set $S_p=\{1,2,\dots,p-1\}$, where $p$ is an odd prime. The consecutive applications of the map generate an integer sequence, or in graph theoretical context a walk, that is linked to the discrete logarithm problem.
Tilings of hyperbolic $(2\times n)$-board with colored squares and dominoes
Published in Ars Mathematica Contemporanea, 15(2), (2018) 337-346 • View PublicationBIB
Several articles deal with tilings with squares and dominoes of the well-known regular square mosaic in Euclidean plane, but not any with the hyperbolic regular square mosaics. In this article, we examine the tiling problem with colored squares and dominoes of one type of the possible hyperbolic generalization of $(2\times n)$-board.

On the binomial interpolated triangles
Published in Journal of Integer Sequences, Vol. 20. (2017), Article 17.7.8 • Search Publication
The binomial interpolated transform of a sequence is a generalization of the well-known binomial transform. We examine a Pascal-like triangle, on which a binomial interpolated transform works between the left and right diagonals, focusing on binary recurrences. We give the sums of the elements in rows and in rising diagonals, further we define two special classes of these arithmetical triangles.

Hyperbolic Pascal simplex
Published in International Electronic Journal of Geometry (IEJG), Vol.10 No.2, (2017) 46-55 • Search Publication
In this article we introduce a new geometric object called hyperbolic Pascal simplex. This new object is presented by the regular hypercube mosaic in the 4-dimensional hyperbolic space. The definition of the hyperbolic Pascal simplex, whose hyperfaces are hyperbolic Pascal pyramids and faces are hyperbolic Pascals triangles, is a natural generalization of the definition of the hyperbolic Pascal triangle and pyramid. We describe the growing of the hyperbolic Pascal simplex considering the numbers and the values of the elements. Further figures illustrate the stepping from a level to the next one.

The growing ratios of hyperbolic regular mosaics with bounded cells
Published in Armenian Journal of Mathematics, 9(1), (2017) 1-19 • Search Publication
In 3- and 4-dimensional hyperbolic spaces there are four, respectively five, regular mosaics with bounded cells. A belt can be created around an arbitrary base vertex of a mosaic. The construction can be iterated and a growing ratio can be determined by using the number of the cells of the considered belts. In this article we determine these growing ratios for each mosaic in a generalized way.

Power sums in hyperbolic Pascal triangles
Published in Analele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Ovidius Constanta, 2017 • Search Publication
In this paper, we describe a method to determine the power sum of the elements of the rows in the hyperbolic Pascal triangles corresponding to $\{4,q\}$ with $q\ge5$. The method is based on the theory of linear recurrences, and the results are demonstrated by evaluating the $k^{th}$ power sum in the range $2\le k\le 11$.

Fibonacci words in hyperbolic Pascal triangles
The hyperbolic Pascal triangle ${\cal HPT}_{4,q}$ $(q\ge5)$ is a new mathematical construction, which is a geometrical generalization of Pascal's arithmetical triangle. In the present study we show that a natural pattern of rows of ${\cal HPT}_{4,5}$ is almost the same as the sequence consisting of every second term of the well-known Fibonacci words. Further, we give a generalization of the Fibonacci words using the hyperbolic Pascal triangles. The geometrical properties of a ${\cal HPT}_{4,q}$ imply a graph structure between the finite Fibonacci words.

Alternating sums in hyperbolic Pascal triangles
Published in Miskolc Mathematical Notes. (17) 2, (2016), 989-998 • View PublicationBIB
A new generalization of Pascal's triangle, the so-called hyperbolic Pascal triangles were introduced in [H.B, L.N, L.Sz: Hyperbolic Pascal triangles]. The mathematical background goes back to the regular mosaics in the hyperbolic plane. The alternating sum of elements in the rows was given in the special case $\{4,5\}$ of the hyperbolic Pascal triangles. In this article, we determine the alternating sum generally in the hyperbolic Pascal triangle corresponding to $\{4,q\}$ with $q\ge5$.

Recently, a new generalization of Pascal's triangle, the so-called hyperbolic Pascal triangles were introduced. The mathematical background goes back to the regular mosaics in the hyperbolic plane. In this article, we investigate the paths in the hyperbolic Pascal triangle corresponding to the regular mosaic $\{4,5\}$, in which the binary recursive sequences $f_{n}=αf_{n-1}\pm f_{n-2}$ are represented ($α\in\mathbb{N}^+$).

Pascal pyramid in the space $\mathbf{H}^2\!\times\!\mathbf{R}$
Published in Mathematical Communications, 22 (2017) 211-225 • Search Publication
In this article we introduce a new type of Pascal pyramids. A regular squared mosaic in the hyperbolic plane yields a $(h^2r)$-cube mosaic in space $\mathbf{H}^2\!\times\!\mathbf{R}$ and the definition of the pyramid is based on this regular mosaic. The levels of the pyramid inherit some properties from the Euclidean and hyperbolic Pascal triangles. We give the growing method from level to level and show some illustrating figures.

Hyperbolic Pascal pyramid
Published in Beitr Algebra Geom 57 (2016) 913-927 • View PublicationBIB
In this paper we introduce a new type of Pascal's pyramids. The new object is called hyperbolic Pascal pyramid since the mathematical background goes back to the regular cube mosaic (cubic honeycomb) in the hyperbolic space. The definition of the hyperbolic Pascal pyramid is a natural generalization of the definition of hyperbolic Pascal triangle and Pascal's arithmetic pyramid. We describe the growing of hyperbolic Pascal pyramid considering the numbers and the values of the elements. Further figures illustrate the stepping from a level to the next one.

Trees on hyperbolic honeycombs
Published in Miskolc Math. Notes, Vol.16/1 (2015) 353-360 • Search Publication
In the hyperbolic plane there are infinite regular lattices. From a fix vertex of a lattice tree graphs can be constructed recursively to the next layers with edges of the lattice. In this article we examine the properties of the growing of trees and the probabilities of length of trees considering the vertices on level i.
Hyperbolic Pascal triangles
Published in Applied Mathematics and Computation, 273 (2016) 453-464 • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we introduce a new generalization of Pascal's triangle. The new object is called the hyperbolic Pascal triangle since the mathematical background goes back to regular mosaics on the hyperbolic plane. We describe precisely the procedure of how to obtain a given type of hyperbolic Pascal triangle from a mosaic. Then we study certain quantitative properties such as the number, the sum, and the alternating sum of the elements of a row. Moreover, the pattern of the rows, and the appearence of some binary recurrences in a fixed hyperbolic triangle are investigated.
