On the maximal matchings of trees
An independent edge set of graph $G$ is a matching, and is maximal if it is not a proper subset of any other matching of $G$. The number of all the maximal matchings of $G$ is denoted by $Ψ(G)$. In this paper, an algorithm to count $Ψ(T)$ for a tree $T$ is given. We show that for any tree $T$ with $n$ vertices, $Ψ(T)\geq\lceil\frac{n}{2}\rceil$, and the tree which obtained the lower bound is characterized.
The number of maximal matchings in polygon rings
A matching of graph $G$ is maximal if it cannot be expanded by adding any edge to create a larger matching. In this paper, for a hexagonal ring $H$ with $n$ hexagons, we show that the number of maximal matchings of $H$ equals to the trace of the product of $n$ matrices, each of which is $S$, $L$, or $R$ according to the type of the connection mode of $H$. Finally, we extend this conclusion to arbitrary polygon rings and provide an algorithm to determine the transition matrices of polygon chains (rings).
A note on two cycles of consecutive even lengths in graphs
Bondy and Vince proved that a graph of minimum degree at least three contains two cycles whose lengths differ by one or two, which was conjectured by Erdős. Gao, Li, Ma and Xie gave an average degree counterpart of Bondy-Vince's result, stating that every $n$-vertex graph with at least $\frac{5}{2}(n-1)$ edges contains two cycles of consecutive even lengths, unless $4|(n-1)$ and every block of $G$ is a clique $K_5$. This confirms the case $k=2$ of Verstraëte's conjecture, which states that every $n$-vertex graph without $k$ cycles of consecutive even lengths has edge number $e(G)\leq\frac{1}{2}(2k+1)(n-1)$, with equality if and only if every block of $G$ is a clique of order $2k+1$. Sudakov and Verstraëte further conjectured that if $G$ is a graph with maximum number of edges that does not contain $k$ cycles of consecutive even lengths, then every block of $G$ is a clique of order at most $2k+1$. In this paper, we prove the case $k=2$ for Sudakov-Verstraëte's conjecture, by extending the results of Gao, Li, Ma and Xie.

Let $t>0$ be a real number and $G$ be a graph. We say $G$ is $t$-tough if for every cutset $S$ of $G$, the ratio of $|S|$ to the number of components of $G-S$ is at least $t$. The Toughness Conjecture of Chvátal, stating that there exists a constant $t_0$ such that every $t_0$-tough graph with at least three vertices is hamiltonian, is still open in general. For any given integer $k\ge 1$, a graph $G$ is $(P_2\cup kP_1)$ free if $G$ does not contain the disjoint union of $P_2$ and $k$ isolated vertices as an induced subgraph.
In this note, we show that every 4-tough and $2k$-connected $(P_2\cup kP_1)$-free graph with at least three vertices is hamiltonian.
This result in some sense is an "extension" of the classical Chvátal-Erdős Theorem that every $\max\{2,k\}$-connected
$(k+1)P_1$-free graph on at least three vertices is hamiltonian.
Characterizing the fullerene graphs with the minimum forcing number 3
The minimum forcing number of a graph $G$ is the smallest number of edges simultaneously contained in a unique perfect matching of $G$. Zhang, Ye and Shiu \cite{HDW} showed that the minimum forcing number of any fullerene graph was bounded below by $3$. However, we find that there exists exactly one excepted fullerene $F_{24}$ with the minimum forcing number $2$. In this paper, we characterize all fullerenes with the minimum forcing number $3$ by a construction approach. This also solves an open problem proposed by Zhang et al. We also find that except for $F_{24}$, all fullerenes with anti-forcing number $4$ have the minimum forcing number $3$. In particular, the nanotube fullerenes of type $(4, 2)$ are such fullerenes.

Let $G$ be a simple graph with a perfect matching. Deng and Zhang showed that the maximum anti-forcing number of $G$ is no more than the cyclomatic number. In this paper, we get a novel upper bound on the maximum anti-forcing number of $G$ and investigate the extremal graphs. If $G$ has a perfect matching $M$ whose anti-forcing number attains this upper bound, then we say $G$ is an extremal graph and $M$ is a nice perfect matching. We obtain an equivalent condition for the nice perfect matchings of $G$ and establish a one-to-one correspondence between the nice perfect matchings and the edge-involutions of $G$, which are the automorphisms $α$ of order two such that $v$ and $α(v)$ are adjacent for every vertex $v$. We demonstrate that all extremal graphs can be constructed from $K_2$ by implementing two expansion operations, and $G$ is extremal if and only if one factor in a Cartesian decomposition of $G$ is extremal. As examples, we have that all perfect matchings of the complete graph $K_{2n}$ and the complete bipartite graph $K_{n, n}$ are nice. Also we show that the hypercube $Q_n$, the folded hypercube $FQ_n$ ($n\geq4$) and the enhanced hypercube $Q_{n, k}$ ($0\leq k\leq n-4$) have exactly $n$, $n+1$ and $n+1$ nice perfect matchings respectively.
