Algorithms for numerical semigroups with fixed maximum primitive
We present an algorithm to explore various properties of the numerical semigroups with a given maximum primitive. In particular, we count the number of such numerical semigroups and verify that there is no counterexample to Wilf's conjecture among the numerical semigroups with maximum primitive up to \(60\).

On counting numerical semigroups by maximum primitive and Wilf's conjecture
We introduce a new way of counting numerical semigroups, namely by their maximum primitive, and show its relation with the counting of numerical semigroups by their Frobenius number. For any positive integer $n$, let $A_{n}$ denote the number of numerical semigroups whose maximum primitive is $n$, and let $N_{n}$ denote the number of numerical semigroups whose Frobenius number is $n$. We show that the sequences $(A_{n})$ and $(N_{n})$ are Möbius transforms of one another. We also establish that almost all numerical semigroups with large enough maximum primitive satisfy Wilf's conjecture. A crucial step in the proof is a result of independent interest: a numerical semigroup $S$ with multiplicity $\mathrm{m}$ such that $|S\cap (\mathrm{m},2 \mathrm{m})|\geq \sqrt{3\mathrm{m}}$ satisfies Wilf's conjecture.

Trimming the numerical semigroups tree to probe Wilf's conjecture to higher genus
This paper aims to contribute to validate, for numerical semigroups of reasonably large genus, the so-called Conjecture of Wilf. There is no counter-example for the conjecture among the over 3*10^{10} numerical semigroups of genus up to 60, as it has been computationally verified by Fromentin and Hivert. The computations use the idea of parsing a semigroups tree, making tests in each node. As a mean to combine parsing of the semigroups tree with known theoretical results, we introduce the concept of cutting semigroup. Assume that there exists a property on numerical semigroups that implies that a semigroup satisfying it necessarily satisfies Wilf's conjecture. Assume also that, besides, this property is hereditary, that is, if a semigroup satisfies it, then all its descendants in the semigroups tree also have the same property. Such properties exist. Interesting ones can be easily deduced from some deep results of Eliahou. A semigroup satisfying such a property is called a cutting semigroup (for that property). When looking for counter-examples to Wilf's conjecture, if a cutting semigroup is found, then it can be cut off, since no counter example lies among its descendants. One can therefore consider the trimmed tree obtained by cutting off all the cutting semigroups. Depending on the properties, these ideas allow in some cases to avoid parsing a very significant part of the tree and can be applied to other related problems. For instance, they can be used to find all numerical semigroups with negative Eliahou number up to a genus bigger than 60, which is the current record. Computations by Fromentin had shown that there are exactly 5 numerical semigroups in these circumstances.
Algorithms for Generalized Numerical Semigroups

We provide algorithms for performing computations in generalized numerical semigroups, that is, submonoids of $\mathbb{N}^{d}$ with finite complement in $\mathbb{N}^{d}$. These semigroups are affine semigroups, which in particular implies that they are finitely generated. For a given finite set of elements in $\mathbb{N}^d$ we show how to deduce if the monoid spanned by this set is a generalized numerical semigroup and, if so, we calculate its set of gaps. Also, given a finite set of elements in $\mathbb{N}^d$ we can determine if it is the set of gaps of a generalized numerical semigroup and, if so, compute the minimal generators of this monoid. We provide a new algorithm to compute the set of all generalized numerical semigroups with a prescribed genus (the cardinality of their sets of gaps). It was used to compute the number of such semigroups, and its implementation allowed us to compute (for various dimensions) the number of numerical semigroups for genus that had not been attained before.

Conjecture of Wilf: a survey
This paper intends to survey the vast literature devoted to a problem posed by Wilf in 1978 which, despite the attention it attracted, remains unsolved. As it frequently happens with combinatorial problems, many researchers who got involved in the search for a solution thought at some point that a solution would be just around the corner, but in the present case that corner has never been reached. By writing this paper I intend to give the reader a broad approach on the problem and, when possible, connections between the various available results. With the hope of gathering some more information than just using set inclusion, at the end of the paper a slightly different way of comparing results is developed.

On a question of Eliahou and a conjecture of Wilf
Published • View PublicationBIB
To a numerical semigroup $S$, Eliahou associated a number $E(S)$ and proved that numerical semigroups for which the associated number is non negative satisfy Wilf's conjecture. The search for counterexamples for the conjecture of Wilf is therefore reduced to semigroups which have an associated negative Eliahou number. Eliahou mentioned $5$ numerical semigroups whose Eliahou number is $-1$. The examples were discovered by Fromentin who observed that these are the only ones with negative Eliahou number among the over $10^{13}$ numerical semigroups of genus up to $60$. We prove here that for any integer $n$ there are infinitely many numerical semigroups S such that $E(S)=n$, by explicitly giving families of such semigroups. We prove that all the semigroups in these families satisfy Wilf's conjecture, thus providing not previously known examples of semigroups for which the conjecture holds.
