Canonical projection tilings defined by patterns

We give a necessary and sufficient condition on a $d$-dimensional affine subspace of $\mathbb{R}^n$ to be characterized by a finite set of patterns which are forbidden to appear in its digitization. This can also be stated in terms of local rules for canonical projection tilings, or subshift of finite type. This provides a link between algebraic properties of affine subspaces and combinatorics of their digitizations. The condition relies on the notion of {\em coincidence} and can be effectively checked. As a corollary, we get that only algebraic subspaces can be characterized by patterns.
Icosahedral Tilings Revisited
Icosahedral tilings, although non-periodic, are known to be characterized by their configurations of some finite size. This characterization has also been expressed in terms of a simple alternation condition. We provide an alternative proof - shorter and arguably easier - of this fact. We moreover conjecture that the alternation condition can be weakened.
Topological substitutions and Rauzy fractals

We consider two families of planar self-similar tilings of different nature: the tilings consisting of translated copies of the fractal sets defined by an iterated function system, and the tilings obtained as a geometrical realization of a topological substitution (an object of purely combinatorial nature). We establish a link between the two families in a specific case, by defining an explicit topological substitution and by proving that it generates the same tilings as those associated with the Tribonacci Rauzy fractal.

We provide an effective characterization of the planar octagonal tilings which admit weak local rules. As a corollary, we show that they are all based on quadratic irrationalities, as conjectured by Thang Le in the 90s.
Symbolic dynamics for the piecewise rotations: Case of the bijective symmetric maps
We consider a specific %piecewise rotation of the plane that is continuous on two half-planes, class of piecewise rotations of the plane that are continuous on two half-planes, as studied in \cite{Bosh.Goet.03}, \cite{Goet.Quas.09} and \cite{Che.Goe.Qua.12}. %If Assuming that the angle belongs to the set $\{\fracπ{2},\fracπ{3},\fracπ{6},\fracπ{4}\} %$ $, we give a description of the symbolic dynamics of this map in the bijective symmetric case.
The Ammann-Beenker tilings revisited
This paper introduces two tiles whose tilings form a one-parameter family of tilings which can all be seen as digitization of two-dimensional planes in the four-dimensional Euclidean space. This family contains the Ammann-Beenker tilings as the solution of a simple optimization problem.

We show that the complexity function $p_k(n)$ of a piecewise translation map conjugated to a minimal translation on the torus $\TT^k = \RR^k / \ZZ^k$ is at least $kn+1$ for every integer $n$.
Classification of rotations on the torus $\mathbb{T}^2$

We consider rotations on the torus $\mathbb{T}^2$, and we classify them with respect to the complexity functions. In dimension one, a minimal rotation can be coded by a sturmian word. A sturmian word has complexity $n+1$ by the Morse-Hedlund theorem. Here we make a generalization in dimension two.
Billiard complexity in the hypercube

We consider the billiard map in the hypercube of $\mathbb{R}^d$. We obtain a language by coding the billiard map by the faces of the hypercube. We investigate the complexity function of this language. We prove that $n^{3d-3}$ is the order of magnitude of the complexity.
On the Number of Balanced Words of Given Length and Height over a Two-Letter Alphabet

We exhibit a recurrence on the number of discrete line segments joining two integer points in the plane using an encoding of such segments as balanced words of given length and height over the two-letter alphabet $\{0,1\}$. We give generating functions and study the asymptotic behaviour. As a particular case, we focus on the symmetrical discrete segments which are encoded by balanced palindromes.

We consider outer billiard outside regular convex polygons. We deal with the case of regular polygons with $\{3,4,5,6,10\}$ sides, and we describe the symbolic dynamics of the map and compute the complexity of the language.
