$K(Z,2)$ out of circular permutations
We discuss $\pmb{SC}_*$, a simplicial homotopy model of $K(Z,2)$ constructed from circular permutations. In any dimension, the number of simplices in the model is finite. The complex $\pmb{SC}_*$ naturally manifests as a simplicial set representing ``minimally" triangulated circle bundles over simplicial bases. On the other hand, existence of the homotopy equivalence $|\pmb{SC}_*| \approx B(U(1)) \approx K(Z,2)$ appears to be a canonical fact from the foundations of the theory of crossed simplicial groups.

A note on a local combinatorial formula for the Euler class of a PL spherical fiber bundle
We present a local combinatorial formula for the Euler class of a $n$-dimen\-si\-onal PL spherical fiber bundle as a rational number $e_{\it CH}$ associated to a chain of $n+1$ abstract subdivisions of abstract $n$-spherical PL cell complexes. The number $e_{\it CH}$ is a combinatorial (or matrix) Hodge theory twisting cochain in Guy Hirsch's homology model of the bundle associated with PL combinatorics of the bundle.

Minimal triangulations of circle bundles, circular permutations and binary Chern cocycle
We investigate a PL topology question: which circle bundles can be triangulated over a given triangulation of the base? The question got a simple answer emphasizing the role of minimal triangulations encoded by local systems of circular permutations of vertices of the base simplices. The answer is based on an experimental fact: classical Huntington transitivity axiom for cyclic orders can be expressed as the universal binary Chern cocycle.

On local combinatorial formulas for Chern classes of triangulated circle bundle
Published • View PublicationBIB
Principal circle bundle over a PL polyhedron can be triangulated and thus obtains combinatorics. The triangulation is assembled from triangulated circle bundles over simplices. To every triangulated circle bundle over a simplex we associate a necklace (in combinatorial sense). We express rational local formulas for all powers of first Chern class in the terms of mathematical expectations of parities of the associated necklaces. This rational parity is a combinatorial isomorphism invariant of triangulated circle bundle over simplex, measuring mixing by triangulation of the circular graphs over vertices of the simplex. The goal of this note is to sketch the logic of deduction these formulas from Kontsevitch's cyclic invariant connection form on metric polygons.

A local combinatorial formula for the Chern class of a triangulated $S^1$ bundle in terms of shellings
Here we are fixing an output of a trivial calculation based on Konsevich's differential 2-form for the Chern class of polygon bundle. As a result an interesting combinatorics and arithmetics jumps right out of a jukebox. The calculation gives very simple rational combinatorial characteristics (we call it "curvature") of a triangulated $S^1$ bundle over a 2-simplex, which is a local combinatorial formula for the first Chern class. The curvature is expressed in terms of cyclic word in 3-character alphabet associated to the bundle. From the point of view of simplicial combinatorics the word is a canonical shelling of the total complex. If you know a triangulation of a bundle - you can really easily compute the Chern class.

Combinatorial fiber bundles and fragmentation of a fiberwise PL-homeomorphism

With a compact PL manifold X we associate a category T(X). The objects of T(X) are all combinatorial manifolds of type X, and morphisms are combinatorial assemblies. We prove that the homotopy equivalence BT (X) \approx BPL(X) holds, where PL(X) is the simplicial group of PL-homeomorphisms. Thus the space BT(X) is a canonical countable (as a CW-complex) model of BPL(X). As a result, we obtain functorial pure combinatorial models for PL fiber bundles with fiber X and a PL polyhedron B as the base. Such a model looks like a T(X)-coloring of some triangulation K of B. The vertices of K are colored by objects of T(X) and the arcs are colored by morphisms in such a way that the diagram arising from the 2-skeleton of K is commutative. Comparing with the classical results of geometric topology, we obtain combinatorial models of the real Grassmannian in small dimensions: BT(S^{n-1}) \approx BO(n) for n=1,2,3,4. The result is proved in a sequence of results on similar models of B\PL(X). Special attention is paid to the main noncompact case X=R^n and to the tangent bundle and Gauss functor of a combinatorial manifold. The trick that makes the proof possible is a collection of lemmas on "fragmentation of a fiberwise homeomorphism", a generalization of the folklore lemma on fragmentation of an isotopy.
