Cyclic Sieving for Strong Dichotomy Enumeration
Agustín-Aquino solved, in terms of the table of marks of $\Aff(\mathbb{Z}/2k\mathbb{Z})$, the problem of enumerating the classes of bicolour self-complementary and rigid patterns in $\mathbb{Z}/2k\mathbb{Z}$ (also known as \emph{strong dichotomy classes}). In particular, the rigid pattern-inventory polynomial appeared, for odd $k$, to yield the number of strong classes with negative sign when evaluated in $-1$, and it was conjectured that this is true for $k$ a power of an odd prime. Here we prove the conjecture is true for $k$ odd in general.

Archimedes' quadrature of the parabola and minimal covers
The generalization of Archimedes strategy to obtain the area of a parabolic segment leads to combinatorial formulas involving minimal covers of sets. These, in turn, are conjecturally related to $q$-binomial coefficients.

Enumeration of strong dichotomy patterns

We apply the version of Pólya-Redfield theory obtained by White to count patterns with a given automorphism group to the enumeration of strong dichotomy patterns, that is, we count bicolor patterns of $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$ with respect to the action of $\Aff(\mathbb{Z}_{2k})$ and with trivial isotropy group. As a byproduct, a conjectural instance of phenomenon similar to cyclic sieving for special cases of these combinatorial objects is proposed.

A note on a sumset in $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$
Published in Online Journal of Analytic Combinatorics, No. 11, Issue 12, 2017 • View PublicationBIB
Let $A$ and $B$ be additive sets of $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$, where $A$ has cardinality $k$ and $B=v.\complement A$ with $v\in\mathbb{Z}_{2k}^{\times}$. In this note some bounds for the cardinality of $A+B$ are obtained, using four different approaches. We also prove that in a special case the bound is not sharp and we can recover the whole group as a sumset.

Antichains and counterpoint dichotomies

We construct a special type of antichain (i. e., a family of subsets of a set, such that no subset is contained in another) using group-theoretical considerations, and obtain an upper bound on the cardinality of such an antichain. We apply the result to bound the number of strong counterpoint dichotomies up to affine isomorphisms.
