New bounds on the distance Laplacian and distance signless Laplacian spectral radii
Let G be a simple undirected connected graph. In this paper, new upper bounds on the distance Laplacian spectral radius of G are obtained. Moreover, new lower and upper bounds for the distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of G are derived. Some of the above mentioned bounds are sharp and the graphs attaining the corresponding bound are characterized. Several illustrative examples are included.

On the $α$-index of graphs with pendent paths
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $G$ be a graph with adjacency matrix $A(G)$ and let $D(G)$ be the diagonal matrix of the degrees of $G$. For every real $α\in\left[ 0,1\right] $, write $A_α\left( G\right) $ for the matrix \[ A_α\left( G\right) =αD\left( G\right) +(1-α)A\left( G\right) . \] This paper presents some extremal results about the spectral radius $ρ_α\left( G\right) $ of $A_α\left( G\right) $ that generalize previous results about $ρ_{0}\left( G\right) $ and $ρ_{1/2}\left( G\right) $. In particular, write $B_{p,q,r}$ be the graph obtained from a complete graph $K_{p}$ by deleting an edge and attaching paths $P_{q}$ and $P_{r}$ to its ends. It is shown that if $α\in\left[ 0,1\right) $ and $G$ is a graph of order $n$ and diameter at least $k,$ then% \[ ρ_α(G)\leqρ_α(B_{n-k+2,\lfloor k/2\rfloor,\lceil k/2\rceil}), \] with equality holding if and only if $G=B_{n-k+2,\lfloor k/2\rfloor,\lceil k/2\rceil}$. This result generalizes results of Hansen and Stevanović \cite{HaSt08}, and Liu and Lu \cite{LiLu14}.

Computing the $A_α-$ eigenvalues of a bug
Let $G$ be a simple undirected graph. For $α\in [0,1]$, let \begin{equation*} A_α\left( G\right) =αD\left( G\right) +(1-α)A\left( G\right) , \end{equation*} where $A(G)$ is the adjacency matrix of $G$ and $D(G)$ is the diagonal matrix of the degrees of $G$. In particular, $A_{0}(G)=A(G)$ and $A_{\frac{1}{2}}(G)=\frac{1}{2}Q(G)$ where $Q(G)$ is the signless Laplacian matrix of $G$. A bug $B_{p,q,r}$ is a graph obtained from a complete graph $K_{p}$ by deleting an edge and attaching paths $P_{q}$ and $P_{r}$ to its ends. In \cite{HaSt08}, Hansen and Stevanović proved that, among the graphs $G$ of order $n$ and diameter $d$, the largest spectral radius of $A(G)$ is attained by the bug $B_{n-d+2,\lfloor d/2\rfloor,\lceil d/2\rceil}$. In \cite{LiLu14}, Liu and Lu proved the same result for the spectral radius of $Q(G)$. Let $ρ_α(G)$ be the spectral radius of $A_α(G)$. In this note, for a bug $B$ of order $n$ and diameter $d$, it is shown that $(n-d+2)α-1$ is an eigenvalue of $A_α(B)$ with multiplicity $n-d-1$ and that the other eigenvalues, among them $ρ_α(B)$, can be computed as the eigenvalues of a symmetric tridiagonal matrix of order $d+1$. It is also shown that $ρ_α(B_{n-d+2,d/2,d/2})$ can be computed as the spectral radius of a symmetric tridiagonal matrix of order $\frac{d}{2}+1$ whenever $d$ is even.

$A_α$-spectrum of a graph obtained by copies of a rooted graph and applications
Given a connected graph $R$ on $r$ vertices and a rooted graph $H,$ let $R\{H\}$ be the graph obtained from $r$ copies of $H$ and the graph $R$ by identifying the root of the $i-th$ copy of $H$ with the $i-th$ vertex of $R$. Let $0\leqα\leq1,$ and let \[ A_α(G)=αD(G)+(1-α)A(G) \] where $D(G)$ and $A(G)$ are the diagonal matrix of the vertex degrees of $G$ and the adjacency matrix of $G$, respectively. A basic result on the $A_α-$ spectrum of $R\{H\}$ is obtained. This result is used to prove that if $H=B_{k}$ is a generalized Bethe tree on $k$ levels, then the eigenvalues of $A_α(R\{B_{k}\})$ are the eigenvalues of symmetric tridiagonal matrices of order not exceeding $k$; additionally, the multiplicity of each eigenvalue is determined. Finally, applications to a unicyclic graph are given, including an upper bound on the $α-$ spectral radius in terms of the largest vertex degree and the largest height of the trees obtained by removing the edges of the unique cycle in the graph.

A note on the positive semidefinitness of $A_α(G)$
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $G$ be a graph with adjacency matrix $A(G)$ and let $D(G)$ be the diagonal matrix of the degrees of $G$. For every real $α\in\left[ 0,1\right] $, write $A_α\left( G\right) $ for the matrix \[ A_α\left( G\right) =αD\left( G\right) +(1-α)A\left( G\right) . \] Let $α_{0}\left( G\right) $ be the smallest $α$ for which $A_α(G)$ is positive semidefinite. It is known that $α_{0}\left( G\right) \leq1/2$. The main results of this paper are: (1) if $G$ is $d$-regular then \[ α_{0}=\frac{-λ_{\min}(A(G))}{d-λ_{\min}(A(G))}, \] where $λ_{\min}(A(G))$ is the smallest eigenvalue of $A(G)$; (2) $G$ contains a bipartite component if and only if $α_{0}\left( G\right) =1/2$; (3) if $G$ is $r$-colorable, then $α_{0}\left( G\right) \geq1/r$.
On the $A_α$-spectra of trees

Let $G$ be a graph with adjacency matrix $A(G)$ and let $D(G)$ be the diagonal matrix of the degrees of $G$. For every real $α\in\left[ 0,1\right],$ define the matrix $A_α\left(G\right) $ as \[ A_α\left(G\right) =αD\left(G\right) +(1-α)A\left(G\right) \] where $0\leqα\leq1$. This paper gives several results about the $A_α$-matrices of trees. In particular, it is shown that if $T_Δ$ is a tree of maximal degree $Δ,$ then the spectral radius of $A_α(T_Δ)$ satisfies the tight inequality \[ ρ(A_α(T_Δ))<αΔ+2(1-α)\sqrt{Δ-1}. \] This bound extends previous bounds of Godsil, Lovász, and Stevanović. The proof is based on some new results about the $A_α$-matrices of Bethe trees and generalized Bethe trees. In addition, several bounds on the spectral radius of $A_α$ of general graphs are proved, implying tight bounds for paths and Bethe trees.
Spectral results for the dominating induced matching problem
A matching M is a dominating induced matching of a graph, if every edge of the graph is either in $M$ or has a common end-vertex with exactly one edge in $M$. The concept of complete dominating induced matching is introduced as graphs where the vertex set can be partitioned into two subsets, one of them inducing an $1$-regular graph and the other defining an independent set and such that all the remaining edges connect each vertex of one set to each vertex of the other. The principal eigenvectors of the adjacency, Laplacian and signless Laplacian matrices of graphs with complete dominating induced matchings are characterized and, therefore, the polynomial time recognition of graphs with complete dominating induced matchings is stated. The adjacency, Laplacian and signless Laplacian spectrum of graphs with complete dominating induced matchings are characterized. Finally, several upper and lower bounds on the cardinality of a dominating induced matching obtained from the eigenvalues of the adjacency, Laplacian and signless Laplacian matrices are deduced and examples for which some of these bounds are tight are presented.
Eigenvalues of a H-generalized join graph operation constrained by vertex subsets
Published • View PublicationBIB
Considering a graph $H$ of order $p$, a generalized $H$-join operation of a family of graphs $G_1,..., G_p$, constrained by a family of vertex subsets $S_i \subseteq V(G_i)$, $i=1,..., p,$ is introduced. When each vertex subset $S_i$ is $(k_i,τ_i)$-regular, it is deduced that all non-main adjacency eigenvalues of $G_i$, different from $k_i-τ_i$, for $i=1,..., p,$ remain as eigenvalues of the graph $G$ obtained by the above mentioned operation. Furthermore, if each graph $G_i$ of the family is $k_i$-regular, for $i=1,..., p$, and all the vertex subsets are such that $S_i=V(G_i)$, the $H$-generalized join operation constrained by these vertex subsets coincides with the $H$-generalized join operation. Some applications on the spread of graphs are presented. Namely, new lower and upper bounds are deduced and a infinity family of non regular graphs of order $n$ with spread equals $n$ is introduced.
