Large sets of mutually orthogonal quantum Latin squares
How large can a set of mutually orthogonal quantum Latin squares (MOQLS) get? We show that a set of n - 2 MOQLS of order n is necessarily classical and construct large non-classical sets of MOQLS of orders that are prime powers, improving both the previously known lower and upper bounds.

Thirty-six quantum officers are entangled
There exist pairs of orthogonal Latin squares of any order n except if n=2 or n=6 [Bose, Shrikhande and Parker, 1960]. In particular, the problem of Euler's thirty-six officers does not have a solution. However, it has a "quantum solution": there exist so-called entangled quantum Latin squares of order six [Rather et al., 2022]. We prove that mutually orthogonal quantum Latin squares of order six do not exist if entanglement is not allowed.
The edge-isoperimetric number of graphs and their powers: approaches from spectral graph theory, optimization and finite geometry
We obtain several sharp spectral bounds, approximations, and exact values for the isoperimetric number and related edge-expansion parameters of graphs. Our results focus on graph powers and on families of graphs with rich algebraic or geometric structure, including distance-regular graphs and graphs arising from finite geometries, among others. Our proofs use techniques from spectral graph theory, linear optimization, finite geometry, and probability, yielding new machinery for analysing edge-expansion phenomena in highly structured graphs.

Design switching on graphs
We show that each (r, lambda)-design yields a class of switching methods that can be used produce cospectral graphs. We use this to explain several specific switching methods such as Godsil-McKay (GM) switching and Wang-Qiu-Hu (WQH) switching.

Counting cospectral graphs obtained via switching
Switching is an operation on a graph that does not change the spectrum of the adjacency matrix, thus producing cospectral graphs. An important activity in the field of spectral graph theory is the characterization of graphs by their spectrum. Hence, switching provides a tool for disproving the existence of such a characterization. This paper presents a general framework for counting the number of graphs that have a non-isomorphic cospectral graph through a switching method, expanding on the work by Haemers and Spence [European Journal of Combinatorics, 2004]. Our framework is based on a different counting approach, which allows it to be used for all known switching methods for the adjacency matrix. From this, we derive asymptotic results, which we complement with computer enumeration results for graphs up to $10$ vertices.

Switching methods of level 2 for the construction of cospectral graphs
A switching method is a graph operation that results in cospectral graphs (graphs with the same spectrum). Work by Wang and Xu [Discrete Math. 310 (2010)] suggests that most cospectral graphs with cospectral complements can be constructed using regular orthogonal matrices of level 2, which has relevance for Haemers' conjecture. We present two new switching methods and several combinatorial and geometrical reformulations of existing switching operations of level 2. We also introduce the concept of reducibility and use it to classify all irreducible switching methods that correspond to a conjugation with a regular orthogonal matrix of level 2 with one nontrivial indecomposable block, up to switching sets of size 12, extending previous results.

The minimum weight of the code of intersecting lines in ${\rm PG}(3,q)$
Published • View PublicationBIB
We characterise the minimum weight codewords of the $p$-ary linear code of intersecting lines in ${\rm PG}(3,q)$, $q=p^h$, $q\geq19$, $p$ prime, $h\geq 1$. If $q$ is even, the minimum weight equals $q^3+q^2+q+1$. If $q$ is odd, the minimum weight equals $q^3+2q^2+q+1$. For $q$ even, we also characterise the codewords of second smallest weight.

Stabiliser codes over fields of even order
We prove that the natural isomorphism between GF(2^h) and GF(2)^h induces a bijection between stabiliser codes on n quqits with local dimension q=2^h and binary stabiliser codes on hn qubits. This allows us to describe these codes geometrically: a stabiliser code over a field of even order corresponds to a so-called quantum set of symplectic polar spaces. Moreover, equivalent stabiliser codes have a similar geometry, which can be used to prove the uniqueness of a [[4,0,3]]_4 stabiliser code and the nonexistence of both a [[7,1,4]]_4 and an [[8,0,5]]_4 stabiliser code.
Cospectral mates for generalized Johnson and Grassmann graphs
We provide three infinite families of graphs in the Johnson and Grassmann schemes that are not uniquely determined by their spectrum. We do so by constructing graphs that are cospectral but non-isomorphic to these graphs.

On the diameter and zero forcing number of some graph classes in the Johnson, Grassmann and Hamming association scheme
We determine the diameter of generalized Grassmann graphs and the zero forcing number of some generalized Johnson graphs, generalized Grassmann graphs and the Hamming graphs. Our work extends several previously known results.
