Distance Exceptional Graphs and the Curvature Index
A graph $G=(V,E)$ on $n$ vertices is said to be \emph{distance exceptional} if the equation $D\vec{x} = \vec{1}$ admits no solution $\vec{x}\in\mathbb{R}^{n}$, where $D\in\mathbb{R}^{n\times n}$ is the shortest path distance matrix of $G$. These graphs were first studied by Steinerberger in the context of a notion of discrete curvature (``Curvature on graphs via equilibrium measures,'' \emph{Journal of Graph Theory}, 103(3), 2023). This work has led to several open questions about distance exceptional graphs, including: What is the structure of such graphs? How can they be characterized? How rare are they? In this paper, we investigate these questions through the lens of a graph invariant we term the \emph{curvature index}. We show that a graph is distance exceptional if and only if this invariant vanishes, and we develop a calculus for this invariant under graph operations including the Cartesian product and graph join. As a result, we recover and generalize a number of known results in this area. We show that any graph $G$ can be realized as an induced subgraph of a distance exceptional graph $G'$. Moreover, in many cases, this embedding is an isometry. In turn, this leads to a number of methods for constructing distance exceptional graphs.
Discrete Curvatures and Convex Polytopes
We study Forman--Ricci and effective resistance curvatures on the skeleta of convex polytopes. Our guiding questions are: how frequently do polytopal graphs exhibit everywhere positive curvature, and what structural constraints does positivity impose? For Forman--Ricci curvature we derive an exact identity for the average edge curvature in terms of flag $f$-numbers and establish the existence of infinite families of Forman--Ricci-positive polytopes in every fixed dimension $d\ge 6$. We prove finiteness results in low dimension: there are only finitely many Forman--Ricci-positive $3$- and $4$-polytopes; for $d=5$ we show finiteness in the simplicial case, and conjecture its extension to $5$-polytopes more generally. For the resistance curvature $κ(v)$ we establish the existence of infinite families for all $d\ge 3$, and we provide a quantitative lower bound for $κ(v)$ in a simple $3$-polytope in terms of the lengths of the three $2$-faces incident to $v$. This bound leads to constructions of non-vertex-transitive, resistance-positive $3$-polytopes via $Δ$-operations, and a degree-based obstruction showing that if each neighbor of $v$ has degree at most $d_v-2$, then $κ(v)\le 0$. Our results suggest that positive curvature on polytopal skeletons is rare and constrained.

Stochastically Evolving Graphs via Edit Semigroups
We investigate a randomly evolving process of subgraphs in an underlying host graph using the spectral theory of semigroups related to the Tsetlin library and hyperplane arrangements. Starting with some initial subgraph, at each iteration, we apply a randomly selected edit to the current subgraph. Such edits vary in nature from simple edits consisting of adding or deleting an edge, or compound edits which can affect several edges at once. This evolving process generates a random walk on the set of all possible subgraphs of the host graph. We show that the eigenvalues of this random walk can be naturally indexed by subsets of edges of the host graph. We also provide, in the case of simple edits, a closed-form formula for the eigenvectors of the transition probability matrix and a sharp bound for the rate of convergence of this random walk. We consider extensions to the case of compound edits; examples of this model include the previously studied Moran forest model and a dynamic random intersection graph model. Evolving graphs arise in a variety of fields ranging from deep learning and graph neural networks to epidemic modeling and social networks. Our random evolving process serves as a general stochastic model for sampling random subgraphs from a given graph.

A Comparative Study of Curvature on Trees
There are several interrelated notions of discrete curvature on graphs. Many approaches utilize the optimal transportation metric on its probability simplex or the distance matrix of the graph. In this survey article, we compute formulas for three different types of curvature on graphs. Along the way, we obtain a comparison result for the curvatures under consideration, a degree-diameter theorem for trees, and a combinatorial identity for certain sums of distances on trees.

Harnack Inequality for Magnetic Graphs
For magnetic graphs satisfying connection curvature dimension inequality $CD^σ(n,κ)$, we prove a Harnack-type inequality for eigenfunctions of the graph magnetic Laplace operator in the manner of work done by Chung, Lin, Yau in 2014. Then we look at two applications; first a lower bound for the least eigenvalue in terms of curvature and extremal path/degree quantities, then to the magnetic Cheeger number of the graph.

Kantorovich Duality and Optimal Transport Problems on Magnetic Graphs
We consider Lipschitz- and Arens-Eells-type function spaces constructed for magnetic graphs, which are adapted to this setting from the area of optimal transport on discrete spaces. After establishing the duality between these spaces, we prove a characterization of the extreme points of the unit ball in the magnetic Lipschitz space as well as a result identifying the magnetic Arens-Eells space as a quotient of the classical Arens-Eells space of an associated classical graph called the lift graph.
