On continuous 2-frieze patterns
We define and study a continuous version of 2-frieze patterns, a combinatorial structure closely related with frieze patterns of Coxeter and Conway. We describe the relation of continuous 2-friezes with the moduli space of projective curves and relate the (pre)symplectic structure on the space of closed 2-friezes, considered as a cluster variety, with the Adler-Gelfand-Dikii bracket on the space of 3rd order differential operators.
When Grünbaum meets Poncelet -- Infinite Classes of Movable $n_4$ Configurations
We study relations between $(n_4)$ incidence configurations and the classical Poncelet Porism. Poncelet's result studies two conics and a sequence of points and lines that inscribes one conic and circumscribes the other. Poncelet's Porism states that whether this sequence closes up after $m$ steps only depends on the conics and not on the initial point of the sequence. In other words: Poncelet polygons are movable. We transfer this motion into a flexibility statement about a large class of $(n_4)$ configurations, which are configurations where 4 (straight) lines pass through each point and four points lie on each line. A first instance of such configurations in real geometry had been given by Grünbaum and Rigby in their classical 1990 paper where they constructed the first known real geometric realisation of a well known combinatorial $(21_4)$ configuration (which had been studied by Felix Klein), now called the Grünbaum-Rigby configuration. Since then, there has been an intensive search for movable $(n_4)$ configurations, but it is very surprising that the Grünbaum-Rigby $(21_4)$ configuration admits nontrivial motions. It is well-known that the Grünbaum-Rigby configuration is the smallest example of an infinite class of $(n_4)$ configurations, the trivial celestial configurations. A major result of this paper is that we show that all trivial celestial configurations are movable via Poncelet's Porism and results about properties of Poncelet grids. Alternative approaches via geometry of billiards, in-circle nets, and pentagram maps that relate the subject to discrete integrable systems are given as well.
Explicit Constructions for Poncelet Polygons
We study the geometric structure of Poncelet $n$-gons from a projective point of view. In particular we present explicit constructions of Poncelet $n$-gons for certain $n$ and derive algebraic characterisations in terms of bracket polynomials. Via the connections of Poncelet polygons and $(N_4)$-configurations, the results of this article can be used to construct a large class of specific movable $(N_4)$-configurations, the trivial celestial 4-configurations, which up to this point were all thought to be rigid and to require regular polygons for their construction.

A four vertex theorem for frieze patterns?
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given two Coxeter's frieze patterns with the same width and consisting of positive numbers, choose a row and consider the periodic sequence of the differences of the respective entries of the two friezes. We ask for which rows this sequence must change sign at least four times over the period. We prove that this is the case for the first and for the second non-trivial rows, and that this is true, for all rows, for an infinitesimal version of the question. The article also contains expository material on the four vertex theorem and on Coxeter's frieze patterns.

Dual numbers, weighted quivers, and extended Somos and Gale-Robinson sequences
Published • View PublicationBIB
We investigate a general method that allows one to construct new integer sequences extending existing ones. We apply this method to the classic Somos-4 and Somos-5, and the Gale-Robinson sequences, as well as to more general class of sequences introduced by Fordy and Marsh, and produce a great number of new sequences. The method is based on the notion of "weighted quiver", a quiver with a $\mathbb Z$-valued function on the set of vertices that obeys very special rules of mutation.
Introducing supersymmetric frieze patterns and linear difference operators
Published • View PublicationBIB
We introduce a supersymmetric analog of the classical Coxeter frieze patterns. Our approach is based on the relation with linear difference operators. We define supersymmetric analogs of linear difference operators called Hill's operators. The space of these "superfriezes" is an algebraic supervariety, which is isomorphic to the space of supersymmetric second order difference equations, called Hill's equations.
$SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$-tilings of the torus, Coxeter-Conway friezes and Farey triangulations
Published • View PublicationBIB
The notion of $SL_2$-tiling is a generalization of that of classical Coxeter-Conway frieze pattern. We classify doubly antiperiodic $SL_2$-tilings that contain a rectangular domain of positive integers. Every such $SL_2$-tiling corresponds to a pair of frieze patterns and a unimodular $2\times2$-matrix with positive integer coefficients. We relate this notion to triangulated $n$-gons in the Farey graph.
Linear difference equations, frieze patterns and combinatorial Gale transform
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the space of linear difference equations with periodic coefficients and (anti)periodic solutions. We show that this space is isomorphic to the space of tame frieze patterns and closely related to the moduli space of configurations of points in the projective space. We define the notion of combinatorial Gale transform which is a duality between periodic difference equations of different orders. We describe periodic rational maps generalizing the classical Gauss map.

On fibrations with flat fibers
Published • View PublicationBIB
We describe pairs (p,n) such that n-dimensional affine space is fibered by pairwise skew p-dimensional affine subspaces. The problem is closely related with the theorem of Adams on vector fields on spheres and the Hurwitz-Radon theory of composition of quadratic forms.
2-frieze patterns and the cluster structure of the space of polygons
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the space of 2-frieze patterns generalizing that of the classical Coxeter-Conway frieze patterns. The geometric realization of this space is the space of n-gons (in the projective plane and in 3-dimensional vector space) which is a close relative of the moduli space of genus 0 curves with n marked points. We show that the space of 2-frieze patterns is a cluster manifold and study its algebraic and arithmetic properties.

The Pentagram Integrals on Inscribed Polygons
Published • View PublicationBIB
The pentagram map is a natural iteration on projective equivalence classes of (twisted) n-gons in the projective plane. It was recently proved ([OST]) that the pentagram map is completely integrable, with the complete set of Poisson commuting integrals given by the polynomials O1,...,O[n/2],On and E1,...,E[n/2],En, previously constructed in [S3]. These polynomials are somewhat reminiscent of the symmetric polynomials. It was observed in computer experiments that if a polygon is inscribed into a conic then Oi=Ei for all i. The goal of the paper is to prove this theorem. The proof is combinatorial, and it was also suggested by computer experimentation.
