Sufficient conditions for $(K_2 \cup kK_1)$-free graphs to be Hamilton-connected
The toughness of a non-complete graph $G$, denoted $τ(G)$, is defined as \[ τ(G) = \min\left\{ \frac{|S|}{ω(G-S)} : S \subseteq V(G),\ ω(G-S) \geq 2 \right\}, \] where $ω(G-S)$ is the number of components of $G - S$. For a complete graph $G$, we define $τ(G) = \infty$. A graph $G$ is $t$-tough if $τ(G) \geq t$. For a positive integer $k$, a graph $G$ is $(K_2 \cup kK_1)$-free if it contains no induced subgraph isomorphic to $K_2 \cup kK_1$. Recently, Liu \cite{liu} showed that every $2k$-connected $(K_2 \cup kK_1)$-free graph $G$ with $τ(G) > 1$ is Hamilton-connected. In this paper, we strengthen this result by proving that every $(k+1)$-connected $(K_2 \cup kK_1)$-free graph $G$ with $τ(G) > 1$ and minimum degree $δ(G) \geq 2k$ is Hamilton-connected. Moreover, by imposing restrictions to the independence number $α(G)$, we prove that every $k$-connected $(K_2 \cup kK_1)$-free graph $G$ of order $n$ with $2k+1 \leq α(G) < \frac{n}{2}$ and $δ(G) \geq 2k$ is Hamilton-connected, and that the bounds on $α(G)$ are sharp.
Extremal problems on disjoint path covers of graphs
In 1962, Erdős characterized the maximum size of nonhamiltonian graphs of order $n$ with minimum degree at least $k$. Later, Ning and Peng [Combin. Probab. Comput. 29 (2020) 128-136] extended Erdős's results to the clique condition and provided the maximum clique number for nonhamiltonian graphs of order $n$ with minimum degree at least $k$. Recently, Zhang [European J. Combin. 112 (2023) 103728] determined the maximum number of $s$-cliques in nonhamiltonian graphs with prescribed order and minimum degree. A natural extension is to characterize the maximum number of $s$-cliques under other graph properties. Notably, disjoint path cover problems are closely related to Hamiltonicity. In this paper, we generalize results on Hamiltonicity and establish sufficient conditions for a graph to possess one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-many $t$-disjoint path covers in terms of the number of cliques and the $α$-spectral radius, respectively. Furthermore, we characterize the extremal graphs that attain these bounds respectively.
Spectral and size conditions for spanning k-trees in tough graphs
The toughness of a graph is a crucial parameter for characterizing its structural properties. The toughness of a non-complete graph $G$ is defined as $τ(G) = \min \{ \dfrac{|S|}{c(G - S)} : S \subseteq V(G), c(G-S) > 1 \}$, where $c(G)$ denotes the number of components of $G$. We define $τ(K_n) = \infty$. A graph $G$ is said to be $τ$-tough if $|S| \ge τ\cdot c(G-S)$ for every vertex cut $S$ of $G$. Let $k \ge 3$ be an integer. For $\frac{1}{k-η}$-tough graphs with $η\in \{0, 1\}$, Liu, Fan and Shu \cite{a34} derived sufficient conditions in terms of the spectral radius and the signless Laplacian spectral radius for the existence of a spanning $k$-tree. Jia and Lu \cite{a24}, for the case $\frac{1}{k-1} \leq τ(G) < \frac{1}{k-2}$, established sufficient conditions in terms of the spectral radius and the signless Laplacian spectral radius for the existence of a spanning $k$-tree. Motivated by these results, in this paper, we further investigate sufficient conditions for the existence of a spanning $k$-tree when $\frac{1}{k} \leq τ(G) < \frac{1}{k-1}$. Specifically, for a connected $\frac{t}{t(k-1)+1}$-tough graph of sufficiently large order $n$ (where $t \ge 1$ is an integer), we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of a spanning $k$-tree in terms of the spectral radius and the signless Laplacian spectral radius. Furthermore, we establish a lower bound on the size (number of edges) to guarantee the existence of a spanning $k$-tree.
Every 3-connected $\{K_{1,4},K_{1,4}+e\}$-free split graph of order at least 13 is Hamilton-connected
A graph $G$ is $\{F_{1}, F_{2},\dots,F_{k}\}$-free if $G$ contains no induced subgraph isomorphic to any $F_{i}$ $(1\leq i \leq k)$. A connected graph $G$ is a split graph if its vertex set can be partitioned into a clique and an independent set. Ryjáček et al. [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. B 134 (2019) 239--263] conjectured that every $4$-connected $\{K_{1,4},K_{1,4}+e\}$-free graph with minimum degree at least 6 is Hamiltonian and they confirmed the case with connectivity at least 5, where $K_{1,4}+e$ is the graph obtained from $K_{1,4}$ by adding a new edge. In this paper, we show that every 3-connected $\{K_{1,4},K_{1,4}+e\}$-free split graph of order at least $13$ is Hamilton-connected. It implies that Ryjáček et al.'s conjecture holds for split graphs of order at least $13$.
Chvátal-Erdős condition for 2-factors with at most two components in graphs
It is well-known that Chvátal and Erdős stated that any graph of order at least three whose independence number is no greater than its connectivity is Hamiltonian; that any graph whose independence number is no greater than its connectivity minus one is Hamilton-connected; and that any graph whose independence number is no greater than its connectivity plus one is traceable. Kaneko and Yoshimoto [J. Graph Theory 43 (2003) 269--279] showed that every 4-connected graph of order at least six has a 2-factor with two components if its independence number is no greater than its connectivity. In this paper, we show that any connected graph of order at least three times its connectivity plus three has a 2-factor with at most two components, except for one exceptional class, if its independence number is no greater than its connectivity plus one. Our result is best possible.
