The study of constant-weight codes in $\ell_1$-metric was motivated by the duplication-correcting problem for data storage in live DNA. It is interesting to determine the maximum size of a code given the length $n$, weight $w$, minimum distance $d$ and the alphabet size $q$. In this paper, based on graph decompositions, we determine the maximum size of ternary codes with constant weight $w$ and distance $2w-2$ for all sufficiently large length $n$. Previously, this was known only for a very sparse family $n$ of density $4/w(w-1)$.

Let $\{(A_i,B_i)\}_{i=1}^{m}$ be a collection of pairs of sets with $|A_i|=a$ and $|B_i|=b$ for $1\leq i\leq m$. Suppose that $A_i\cap B_j=\emptyset$ if and only if $i=j$, then by the famous Bollobás theorem, we have the size of this collection $m\leq {a+b\choose a}$. In this paper, we consider a variant of this problem by setting $\{A_i\}_{i=1}^{m}$ to be intersecting additionally. Using exterior algebra method, we prove a weighted Bollobás type theorem for finite dimensional real vector spaces under these constraints. As a consequence, we have a similar theorem for finite sets, which settles a recent conjecture of Gerbner et. al \cite{GKMNPTX2019}. Moreover, we also determine the unique extremal structure of $\{(A_i,B_i)\}_{i=1}^{m}$ for the primary case of the theorem for finite sets.
Repairing Generalized Reed-Muller Codes
In distributed storage systems, both the repair bandwidth and locality are important repair cost metrics to evaluate the performance of a storage code. Recently, Guruswami and Wooters proposed an optimal linear repair scheme based on Reed-Solomon codes for a single failure, improved the bandwidth of the classical repair scheme. In this paper, we consider the repair bandwidth of Generalized Reed-Muller (GRM) codes, which have good locality property. We generalize Guruswami and Wooters' repairing scheme to GRM codes for single failure, which has nontrivial bandwidth closing to the lower bound when the subfield is small. We further extend the repair scheme for multiple failures in distributed and centralized repair models, and compute the expectation of bandwidth by considering different erasure-patterns.

We provide several constructions of special unextendible entangled bases with fixed Schmidt number $k$ (SUEB$k$) in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{d'}$ for $2\leq k\leq d\leq d'$. We generalize the space decomposition method in Guo [Phys. Rev. A 94, 052302 (2016)], by proposing a systematic way of constructing new SUEB$k$s in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{d'}$ for $2\leq k < d \leq d'$ or $2\leq k=d< d'$. In addition, we give a construction of a $(pqdd'-p(dd'-N))$-number SUEB$pk$ in $\mathbb{C}^{pd}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{qd'}$ from an $N$-number SUEB$k$ in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{d'}$ for $p\leq q$ by using permutation matrices. We also connect a $(d(d'-1)+m)$-number UMEB in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{d'}$ with an unextendible partial Hadamard matrix $H_{m\times d}$ with $m<d$, which extends the result in [Quantum Inf. Process. 16(3), 84 (2017)].

Codes that can correct up to $t$ symmetric errors and detect all unidirectional errors, known as $t$-EC-AUED codes, are studied in this paper. Given positive integers $q$, $a$ and $t$, let $n_q(a,t+1)$ denote the length of the shortest $q$-ary $t$-EC-AUED code of size $a$. We introduce combinatorial constructions for $q$-ary $t$-EC-AUED codes via one-factorizations of complete graphs, and concatenation of MDS codes and codes from resolvable set systems. Consequently, we determine the exact values of $n_q(a,t+1)$ for several new infinite families of $q,a$ and $t$.
Complexity of Dependencies in Bounded Domains, Armstrong Codes, and Generalizations

The study of Armstrong codes is motivated by the problem of understanding complexities of dependencies in relational database systems, where attributes have bounded domains. A $(q,k,n)$-Armstrong code is a $q$-ary code of length $n$ with minimum Hamming distance $n-k+1$, and for any set of $k-1$ coordinates there exist two codewords that agree exactly there. Let $f(q,k)$ be the maximum $n$ for which such a code exists. In this paper, $f(q,3)=3q-1$ is determined for all $q\geq 5$ with three possible exceptions. This disproves a conjecture of Sali. Further, we introduce generalized Armstrong codes for branching, or $(s,t)$-dependencies, construct several classes of optimal Armstrong codes and establish lower bounds for the maximum length $n$ in this more general setting.
Covering Radius of Permutation Groups with Infinity-Norm
The covering radius of permutation group codes are studied in this paper with $l_{\infty}$-metric. We determine the covering radius of the $(p,q)$-type group, which is a direct product of two cyclic transitive groups. We also deduce the maximum covering radius among all the relabelings of this group under conjugation, that is, permutation groups with the same algebraic structure but with relabelled members. Finally, we give a lower bound of the covering radius of the dihedral group code, which differs from the trivial upper bound by a constant at most one. This improves the result of Karni and Schwartz in 2018, where the gap between their lower and upper bounds tends to infinity as the code length grows.

A set of $N$ permutations of $\{1,2,\ldots,v\}$ is $t$-suitable, if each symbol precedes each subset of $t-1$ others in at least one permutation. The extremal problem of determining the smallest size $N$ of such sets for given $v$ and $t$ was the subject of classical studies by Dushnik in 1950 and Spencer in 1971. Colbourn recently introduced the concept of suitable cores as equivalent objects of suitable sets of permutations, and studied the dual problem of determining the largest $v=\text{SCN}(t,N)$ such that a suitable core exists for given $t$ and $N$. Chan and Jedwab showed that when $N=\lfloor\frac{t+1}{2}\rfloor\lceil\frac{t+1}{2}\rceil+l$, the value of SCN$(t,N)$ is asymptotically $\lfloor\frac{t}{2}\rfloor+2$ if $l$ is a fixed integer. In this paper, we improve this result by showing that it is also true when $l=O(\ln t)$ using Ramsey theory. When $v$ is bigger than $\lfloor\frac{t}{2}\rfloor+2$, we give new explicit constructions of suitable cores from packings of triples, and random constructions from extended Ramsey colorings.
Linear Size Constant-Composition Codes Meeting the Johnson Bound

The Johnson-type upper bound on the maximum size of a code of length $n$, distance $d=2w-1$ and constant composition ${\overline{w}}$ is $\lfloor\dfrac{n}{w_1}\rfloor$, where $w$ is the total weight and $w_1$ is the largest component of ${\overline{w}}$. Recently, Chee et al. proved that this upper bound can be achieved for all constant-composition codes of sufficiently large lengths. Let $N_{ccc}({\overline{w}})$ be the smallest such length. The determination of $N_{ccc}({\overline{w}})$ is trivial for binary codes. This paper provides a lower bound on $N_{ccc}({\overline{w}})$, which is shown to be tight for all ternary and quaternary codes by giving new combinatorial constructions. Consequently, by refining method, we determine the values of $N_{ccc}({\overline{w}})$ for all $q$-ary constant-composition codes provided that $3w_1\geq w$ with finite possible exceptions.

Multiply constant-weight codes (MCWCs) have been recently studied to improve the reliability of certain physically unclonable function response. In this paper, we give combinatorial constructions for MCWCs which yield several new infinite families of optimal MCWCs. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the Johnson type upper bounds of MCWCs are asymptotically tight for fixed weights and distances. Finally, we provide bounds and constructions of two dimensional MCWCs.

We demonstrate that certain Johnson-type bounds are asymptotically exact for a variety of classes of codes, namely, constant-composition codes, nonbinary constant-weight codes and multiply constant-weight codes. This was achieved via an interesting application of the theory of decomposition of edge-colored digraphs.

We introduce the class of multiply constant-weight codes to improve the reliability of certain physically unclonable function (PUF) response. We extend classical coding methods to construct multiply constant-weight codes from known $q$-ary and constant-weight codes. Analogues of Johnson bounds are derived and are shown to be asymptotically tight to a constant factor under certain conditions. We also examine the rates of the multiply constant-weight codes and interestingly, demonstrate that these rates are the same as those of constant-weight codes of suitable parameters. Asymptotic analysis of our code constructions is provided.

We investigate retransmission permutation arrays (RPAs) that are motivated by applications in overlapping channel transmissions. An RPA is an $n\times n$ array in which each row is a permutation of ${1, ..., n}$, and for $1\leq i\leq n$, all $n$ symbols occur in each $i\times\lceil\frac{n}{i}\rceil$ rectangle in specified corners of the array. The array has types 1, 2, 3 and 4 if the stated property holds in the top left, top right, bottom left and bottom right corners, respectively. It is called latin if it is a latin square. We show that for all positive integers $n$, there exists a type-$1,2,3,4$ $\RPA(n)$ and a type-1,2 latin $\RPA(n)$.

Frameproof codes are used to preserve the security in the context of coalition when fingerprinting digital data. Let $M_{c,l}(q)$ be the largest cardinality of a $q$-ary $c$-frameproof code of length $l$ and $R_{c,l}=\lim_{q\rightarrow \infty}M_{c,l}(q)/q^{\lceil l/c\rceil}$. It has been determined by Blackburn that $R_{c,l}=1$ when $l\equiv 1\ (\bmod\ c)$, $R_{c,l}=2$ when $c=2$ and $l$ is even, and $R_{3,5}=5/3$. In this paper, we give a recursive construction for $c$-frameproof codes of length $l$ with respect to the alphabet size $q$. As applications of this construction, we establish the existence results for $q$-ary $c$-frameproof codes of length $c+2$ and size $\frac{c+2}{c}(q-1)^2+1$ for all odd $q$ when $c=2$ and for all $q\equiv 4\pmod{6}$ when $c=3$. Furthermore, we show that $R_{c,c+2}=(c+2)/c$ meeting the upper bound given by Blackburn, for all integers $c$ such that $c+1$ is a prime power.

A new ordering, extending the notion of universal cycles of Chung {\em et al.} (1992), is proposed for the blocks of $k$-uniform set systems. Existence of minimum coverings of pairs by triples that possess such an ordering is established for all orders. Application to the construction of short 2-radius sequences is given, with some new 2-radius sequences found through computer search.
