New Bounds and Constructions for Variable Packet-Error Coding
In this paper, we consider the problem of variable packet-error coding, which emerges in network communication scenarios where a source transmits information to a destination through multiple disjoint paths. The objective is to design codes with dynamic error-correcting capabilities that adapt to varying numbers of errors. Specifically, we first provide several bounds on the rate--distortion trade-off for general variable packet-error coding schemes. Then, we present two explicit constructions of variable packet-error coding schemes. The first construction uses higher-order MDS codes and provides a coding scheme that achieves a better rate--distortion trade-off compared to known results for general parameter regimes. The second construction is based on a variant of the repetition code and yields a coding scheme with an optimal rate--distortion trade-off, with respect to our bound, for certain parameter regimes.
New results of Bollobás-type theorem for affine subspaces and projective subspaces
Bollobás-type theorem has received a lot of attention due to its application in graph theory. In 2015, Gábor Heged{ü}s gave an upper bound of bollobás-type affine subspace families for $q\neq 2$, and constructed an almost sharp affine subspaces pair families. In this note, we prove a new upper bound for bollobás-type affine subspaces without the requirement of $q\neq 2$, and construct a pair of families of affine subspaces, which shows that our upper bound is sharp. We also give an upper bound for bollobás-type projective subspaces, and prove that the Heged{ü}s's conjecture holds when $q=2$.

In nonadaptive group testing, the main research objective is to design an efficient algorithm to identify a set of up to $t$ positive elements among $n$ samples with as few tests as possible. Disjunct matrices and separable matrices are two classical combinatorial structures while one provides a more efficient decoding algorithm and the other needs fewer tests, i.e., larger rate. Recently, a notion of strongly separable matrix has been introduced, which has the same identifying ability as a disjunct matrix, but has larger rate. In this paper, we use a modified probabilistic method to improve the lower bounds for the rate of strongly separable matrices. Using this method, we also improve the lower bounds for some well-known combinatorial structures, including locally thin set families and cancellative set families.
Improved Lower Bounds for Secure Codes and Related Structures
Secure codes are widely-studied combinatorial structures which were introduced for traitor tracing in broadcast encryption. To determine the maximum size of such structures is the main research objective. In this paper, we investigate the lower bounds for secure codes and their related structures. First, we give some improved lower bounds for the rates of $2$-frameproof codes and $\overline{2}$-separable codes for slightly large alphabet size. Then we improve the lower bounds for the rate of some related structures, i.e., strongly $2$-separable matrices and $2$-cancellative set families. Finally, we give a general method to derive new lower bounds for strongly $t$-separable matrices and $t$-cancellative set families for $t\ge 3.$

We construct integer error-correcting codes and covering codes for the limited-magnitude error channel with more than one error. The codes are lattices that pack or cover the space with the appropriate error ball. Some of the constructions attain an asymptotic packing/covering density that is constant. The results are obtained via various methods, including the use of codes in the Hamming metric, modular $B_t$-sequences, $2$-fold Sidon sets, and sets avoiding arithmetic progression.
Matching preclusion and strong matching preclusion of the bubble-sort star graphs
Since a plurality of processors in a distributed computer system working in parallel, to ensure the fault tolerance and stability of the network is an important issue in distributed systems. As the topology of the distributed network can be modeled as a graph, the (strong) matching preclusion in graph theory can be used as a robustness measure for missing edges in parallel and distributed networks, which is defined as the minimum number of (vertices and) edges whose deletion results in the remaining network that has neither a perfect matching nor an almost-perfect matching. The bubble-sort star graph is one of the validly discussed interconnection networks related to the distributed systems. In this paper, we show that the strong matching preclusion number of an $n$-dimensional bubble-sort star graph $BS_n$ is $2$ for $n\geq3$ and each optimal strong matching preclusion set of $BS_n$ is a set of two vertices from the same bipartition set. Moreover, we show that the matching preclusion number of $BS_n$ is $2n-3$ for $n\geq3$ and that every optimal matching preclusion set of $BS_n$ is trivial.
New bounds and constructions for constant weighted $X$-codes
As a crucial technique for integrated circuits (IC) test response compaction, $X$-compact employs a special kind of codes called $X$-codes for reliable compressions of the test response in the presence of unknown logic values ($X$s). From a combinatorial view point, Fujiwara and Colbourn \cite{FC2010} introduced an equivalent definition of $X$-codes and studied $X$-codes of small weights that have good detectability and $X$-tolerance.
An $(m,n,d,x)$ $X$-code is an $m\times n$ binary matrix with column vectors as its codewords. The parameters $d,x$ correspond to the test quality of the code. In this paper, bounds and constructions for constant weighted $X$-codes are investigated. First, we obtain a general result on the maximum number of codewords $n$ for an $(m,n,d,x)$ $X$-code of weight $w$, and we further improve this lower bound for the case with $x=2$ and $w=3$ through the probabilistic method. Then, using tools from additive combinatorics and finite fields, we present some explicit constructions for constant weighted $X$-codes with $d=3,7$ and $x=2$, which are optimal for the case when $d=3, w=4$ and nearly optimal for the case when $d=3,w=3$. We also consider a special class of $X$-codes introduced in \cite{FC2010} and improve the best known lower bound on the maximum number of codewords for this kind of $X$-codes.

Augmented orthogonal arrays (AOAs) were introduced by Stinson, who showed the equivalence between ideal ramp schemes and augmented orthogonal arrays (Discrete Math. 341 (2018), 299-307). In this paper, we show that there is an AOA$(s,t,k,v)$ if and only if there is an OA$(t,k,v)$ which can be partitioned into $v^{t-s}$ subarrays, each being an OA$(s,k,v)$, and that there is a linear AOA$(s,t,k,q)$ if and only if there is a linear maximum distance separable (MDS) code of length $k$ and dimension $t$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$ which contains a linear MDS subcode of length $k$ and dimension $s$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$. Some constructions for AOAs and some new infinite classes of AOAs are also given.

An $N\times n$ matrix on $q$ symbols is called $\{w_1,\ldots,w_t\}$-separating if for arbitrary $t$ pairwise disjoint column sets $C_1,\ldots,C_t$ with $|C_i|=w_i$ for $1\le i\le t$, there exists a row $f$ such that $f(C_1),\ldots,f(C_t)$ are also pairwise disjoint, where $f(C_i)$ denotes the collection of components of $C_i$ restricted to row $f$.
Given integers $N,q$ and $w_1,\ldots,w_t$, denote by $C(N,q,\{w_1,\ldots,w_t\})$ the maximal $n$ such that a corresponding matrix does exist.
The determination of $C(N,q,\{w_1,\ldots,w_t\})$ has received remarkable attentions during the recent years.
The main purpose of this paper is to introduce two novel methodologies to attack the upper bound of $C(N,q,\{w_1,\ldots,w_t\})$.
The first one is a combination of the famous graph removal lemma in extremal graph theory and a Johnson-type recursive inequality in coding theory, and the second one is the probabilistic method.
As a consequence, we obtain several intriguing upper bounds for some parameters of $C(N,q,\{w_1,\ldots,w_t\})$, which significantly improve the previously known results.

Let $K=\{k_1,k_2,\ldots,k_r\}$ and $L=\{l_1,l_2,\ldots,l_s\}$ be disjoint subsets of $\{0,1,\ldots,p-1\}$, where $p$ is a prime and $A=\{A_1,A_2,\ldots,A_m\}$ be a family of subsets of $[n]$ such that $|A_i|\pmod{p}\in K$ for all $A_i\in A$ and $|A_i\cap A_j|\pmod{p}\in L$ for $i\ne j$. In 1991, Alon, Babai and Suzuki conjectured that if $n\geq s+\max_{1\leq i\leq r} k_i$, then $|A|\leq {n\choose s}+{n\choose s-1}+\cdots+{n\choose s-r+1}$. In 2000, Qian and Ray-Chaudhuri proved the conjecture under the condition $n\geq 2s-r$. In 2015, Hwang and Kim verified the conjecture of Alon, Babai and Suzuki.
In this paper, we will prove that if $n\geq 2s-2r+1$ or $n\geq s+\max_{1\leq i\leq r}k_i$, then \[ |A|\leq{n-1\choose s}+{n-1\choose s-1}+\cdots+{n-1\choose s-2r+1}. \] This result strengthens the upper bound of Alon, Babai and Suzuki's conjecture when $n\geq 2s-2$.

The problem is related to all-or-nothing transforms (AONT) suggested by Rivest as a preprocessing for encrypting data with a block cipher. Since then there have been various applications of AONTs in cryptography and security. D'Arco, Esfahani and Stinson posed the problem on the constructions of binary matrices for which the desired properties of an AONT hold with the maximum probability. That is, for given integers $t\le s$, what is the maximum number of $t$-by-$t$ invertible submatrices in a binary matrix of order $s$? For the case $t=2$, let $R_2(s)$ denote the maximal proportion of 2-by-2 invertible submatrices. D'Arco, Esfahani and Stinson conjectured that the limit is between 0.492 and 0.625. We completely solve the case $t=2$ by showing that $\lim_{s\rightarrow\infty}R_2(s)=0.5$.

Frameproof codes are used to fingerprint digital data. It can prevent copyrighted materials from unauthorized use. In this paper, we study upper and lower bounds for $w$-frameproof codes of length $N$ over an alphabet of size $q$. The upper bound is based on a combinatorial approach and the lower bound is based on a probabilistic construction. Both bounds can improve previous results when $q$ is small compared to $w$, say $cq\leq w$ for some constant $c\leq q$. Furthermore, we pay special attention to binary frameproof codes. We show a binary $w$-frameproof code of length $N$ can not have more than $N$ codewords if $N<\binom{w+1}{2}$.
