Winding number and Cutting number of Harmonic cycle
A harmonic cycle $λ$, also called a discrete harmonic form, is a solution of the Laplace's equation with the combinatorial Laplace operator obtained from the boundary operators of a chain complex. By the combinatorial Hodge theory, harmonic spaces are isomorphic to the homology groups with real coefficients. In particular, if a cell complex has a one dimensional reduced homology, it has a unique harmonic cycle up to scalar, which we call the \emph{standard harmonic cycle}. In this paper, we will present a formula for the standard harmonic cycle $λ$ of a cell complex based on a high-dimensional generalization of cycletrees. Moreover, by using duality, we will define the standard harmonic cocycle $λ^*$, and show intriguing combinatorial properties of $λ$ and $λ^*$ in relation to (dual) spanning trees, (dual) cycletrees, winding numbers $w(\cdot)$ and cutting numbers $c(\cdot)$ in high dimensions.

A combinatorial interpretation of harmonic cycles
In this paper, we will investigate a harmonic cycle (discrete harmonic form). With a CW-complex, we can construct the combinatorial Laplacian operator. The kernel of the operator is the harmonic space, the set of harmonic cycles, and is isomorphic to its homology due to combinatorial Hodge theory. We will introduce four concepts; cycletree, unicyclization, winding number map, and standard harmonic cycle. A cycletree is the disjoint union of a spanning tree and an edge on a given graph. A unicyclization consists of a graph and information substituting for faces. Then, we will define the winding number map and the standard harmonic cycle, and prove related properties. Finally, we will show a relation between the winding number and the inner product with the standard harmonic cycle. Then, we will see the standard harmonic cycle is actually a harmonic cycle. In other words, we give a combinatorial interpretation on a harmonic cycle.
