Improved Bounds for Nested Orthogonal Arrays
Nested orthogonal arrays (NOAs) have found increasing application in various experimental design problems. A central challenge in this field is the derivation of lower bounds on the number of runs. These bounds serve as a powerful criterion to prove the nonexistence of specific arrays. For symmetric NOAs, Mukerjee, Qian, and Wu developed statistical arguments that yield fairly tight bounds. By contrast, the bounds for asymmetric NOAs proposed by Lin, Pang and Chen, which are obtained via a recursive column deletion technique that reduces the general problem to NOAs of strength 2, are not optimal. Consequently, improving these bounds remains a significant open problem. In this paper, we reformulate the Rao bound and establish a new bound for NOAs under a group theoretic framework. Using the character theory of finite abelian groups, we obtain an equivalent characterization via group characters. This framework allows us to give a new proof of Rao bound for orthogonal arrays and to derive significantly sharper lower bounds for asymmetric NOAs than those of Lin et al. In the case where all factor levels are equal, our bounds reduce naturally to the symmetric bounds of Mukerjee, Qian, and Wu. We also confirm their optimality by explicitly two constructions of NOAs that achieve these bounds.
On the cardinalities of quantum Latin squares
A quantum Latin square of order $v$, QLS($v$), is a $v\times v$ array in which each of entries is a unit column vector from the Hilbert space $\mathbb{C}^{v}$, such that every row and column forms an orthonormal basis of $\mathbb{C}^{v}$. The cardinality of a QLS($v$) is the number of its vectors distinct up to a global phase, which is the crucial indicator for distinguishing between classical QLSs and non-classical QLSs. In this paper, we investigate the possible cardinalities of a QLS($v$). As a result, we completely resolve the existence of a QLS($v$) with maximal cardinality for any $v\geq 4$. Moreover, based on Wilson's construction and Direct Product construction, we establish some possible cardinality range of a QLS($v$) for any $v\geq 4$.

The existence of non-classical orthogonal quantum Latin squares
Quantum Latin squares are a generalization of classical Latin squares in quantum field and have wide applications in unitary error bases, mutually unbiased bases, $k$-uniform states and quantum error correcting codes. In this paper, we put forward some new quantum Latin squares with special properties, such as idempotent quantum Latin square, self-orthogonal quantum Latin square, holey quantum Latin square, and the notions of orthogonality on them. We present some forceful construction methods including PBD constructions and filling in holes constructions for non-classical quantum Latin squares. As consequences, we establish the existence of non-classical 2-idempotent MOQLS$(v)$, non-classical 2, 3-MOQLS$(v)$ and non-classical SOQLS$(v)$ except possibly for several definite values.

Strongly regular generalized partial geometries and associated LDPC codes
In this paper, we introduce strongly regular generalized partial geometries of grade $r$, which generalise partial geometries and strongly regular $(α,β)$-geometries. By the properties of quadrics in PG$(2,q)$ and PG$(3,q)$, we construct two classes of strongly regular generalized partial geometries of grade $3$. Besides, we define low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes by considering the combinatorial structures of strongly regular generalized partial geometries and derive bounds on minimum distance, dimension and girth for the LDPC codes.
Mutually unbiased maximally entangled bases from difference matrices

Based on maximally entangled states, we explore the constructions of mutually unbiased bases in bipartite quantum systems. We present a new way to construct mutually unbiased bases by difference matrices in the theory of combinatorial designs. In particular, we establish $q$ mutually unbiased bases with $q-1$ maximally entangled bases and one product basis in $\mathbb{C}^q\otimes \mathbb{C}^q$ for arbitrary prime power $q$. In addition, we construct maximally entangled bases for dimension of composite numbers of non-prime power, such as five maximally entangled bases in $\mathbb{C}^{12}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{12}$ and $\mathbb{C}^{21}\otimes\mathbb{C}^{21}$, which improve the known lower bounds for $d=3m$, with $(3,m)=1$ in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{d}$. Furthermore, we construct $p+1$ mutually unbiased bases with $p$ maximally entangled bases and one product basis in $\mathbb{C}^p\otimes \mathbb{C}^{p^2}$ for arbitrary prime number $p$.

Generalized perfect difference families and their application to variable-weight geometric orthogonal codes
Published • View PublicationBIB
Motivated by the application in geometric orthogonal codes (GOCs), Wang et al. introduced the concept of generalized perfect difference families (PDFs), and established the equivalence between GOCs and a certain type of generalized PDFs recently. Based on the relationship, we discuss the existence problem of generalized $(n\times m,K,1)$-PDFs in this paper. By using some auxiliary designs such as semi-perfect group divisible designs and several recursive constructions, we prove that a generalized $(n\times m, \{3,4\}, 1)$-PDF exists if and only if $nm\equiv1\pmod{6}$. The existence of a generalized $(n\times m, \{3,4,5\}, 1)$-PDF is also completely solved possibly except for a few values. As a consequence, some variable-weight perfect $(n\times m,K,1)$-GOCs are obtained.\vspace{0.2cm} {\bf Keywords}: generalized perfect difference family, generalized perfect difference packing, geometric orthogonal code, semi-perfect group divisible design
