Spectra of subdivision-vertex join and subdivision-edge join of two graphs
Published in The Bulletin of the Malaysian Mathematical Society 42 (2019) 15--31 • View PublicationBIB
The subdivision graph $\mathcal{S}(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the graph obtained by inserting a new vertex into every edge of $G$. Let $G_1$ and $G_2$ be two vertex disjoint graphs. The \emph{subdivision-vertex join} of $G_1$ and $G_2$, denoted by $G_1\dot{\vee}G_2$, is the graph obtained from $\mathcal{S}(G_1)$ and $G_2$ by joining every vertex of $V(G_1)$ with every vertex of $V(G_2)$. The \emph{subdivision-edge join} of $G_1$ and $G_2$, denoted by $G_1\underline{\vee}G_2$, is the graph obtained from $\mathcal{S}(G_1)$ and $G_2$ by joining every vertex of $I(G_1)$ with every vertex of $V(G_2)$, where $I(G_1)$ is the set of inserted vertices of $\mathcal{S}(G_1)$. In this paper we determine the adjacency spectra, the Laplacian spectra and the signless Laplacian spectra of $G_1\dot{\vee}G_2$ (respectively, $G_1\underline{\vee}G_2$) for a regular graph $G_1$ and an arbitrary graph $G_2$, in terms of the corresponding spectra of $G_1$ and $G_2$. As applications, these results enable us to construct infinitely many pairs of cospectral graphs. We also give the number of the spanning trees and the Kirchhoff index of $G_1\dot{\vee}G_2$ (respectively, $G_1\underline{\vee}G_2$) for a regular graph $G_1$ and an arbitrary graph $G_2$.

The enumeration of independent sets on some lattices
In this paper, firstly we show that the entropy constants of the number of independent sets on certain plane lattices are the same as the entropy constants of the corresponding cylindrical and toroidal lattices. Secondly, we consider three more complex lattices which can not be handled by a single transfer matrix as in the plane quadratic lattice case. By introducing the concept of transfer multiplicity, we obtain the lower and upper bounds of the entropy constants of crossed quadratic lattice, generalized aztec diamond lattice and 8-8-4 lattice.

Asymptotic energy of graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
The energy of a simple graph $G$ arising in chemical physics, denoted by $\mathcal E(G)$, is defined as the sum of the absolute values of eigenvalues of $G$. We consider the asymptotic energy per vertex (say asymptotic energy) for lattice systems. In general for a type of lattice in statistical physics, to compute the asymptotic energy with toroidal, cylindrical, Mobius-band, Klein-bottle, and free boundary conditions are different tasks with different hardness. In this paper, we show that if $\{G_n\}$ is a sequence of finite simple graphs with bounded average degree and $\{G_n'\}$ a sequence of spanning subgraphs of $\{G_n\}$ such that almost all vertices of $G_n$ and $G_n'$ have the same degrees, then $G_n$ and $G_n'$ have the same asymptotic energy. Thus, for each type of lattices with toroidal, cylindrical, Mobius-band, Klein-bottle, and free boundary conditions, we have the same asymptotic energy. As applications, we obtain the asymptotic formulae of energies per vertex of the triangular, $3^3.4^2$, and hexagonal lattices with toroidal, cylindrical, Mobius-band, Klein-bottle, and free boundary conditions simultaneously.
