Partitioning zero-divisor graphs of finite commutative rings into global defensive alliances
For a commutative ring $R$ with identity, the zero-divisor graph of $R$, denoted $Γ(R)$, is the graph whose vertices are the non-zero zero divisors of $R$ with two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $xy=0$. In this paper, we are interested in partitioning the vertex set of $Γ(R)$ into global defensive alliances for a finite commutative ring $R$. This problem has been well investigated in graph theory. Here we connected it with the ring theoretical context. We characterize various commutative finite rings for which the zero divisor graph is partitionable into global defensive alliances. We also give several examples to illustrate the scopes and limits of our results.

A note on topological indices and the twin classes of graphs
Topological indices are parameters associated with graphs that have many applications in different areas such as mathematical chemistry. Among various topological indices, the Wiener index is classical \cite{w}. In this paper, we prove a formula for the Wiener index and more general $m$-Steiner Wiener index of an arbitrary graph $G$ in terms of the cardinalities of its twin classes. In particular, we will show that calculating these parameters for the graph $G$ can be reduced to calculating the same for a much smaller graph (in general) called the reduced graph of $G$. As applications of our main result, the $m$-Steiner Wiener index is explicitly calculated for various important classes of graphs from the literature including \begin{enumerate} \item[(a)] Power graphs associated with finite groups, \item[(b)] Zero divisor graphs and the ideal-based zero divisor graphs associated with commutative rings with unity, and \item[(c)] Comaximal ideal graphs associated with commutative rings with unity. \end{enumerate} We have also found an upper bound on the $m$-Steiner Wiener index of an infinite class of graphs called the completely joined graphs. As a corollary of this result, we explicitly calculate the $m$-Steiner Wiener index of the complete multipartite graphs.

Permutations and the divisor graph of $[1,n]$
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $S_{\rm div}(n)$ denote the set of permutations $π$ of $n$ such that for each $1\leq j \leq n$ either $j \mid π(j)$ or $π(j) \mid j$. These permutations can also be viewed as vertex-disjoint directed cycle covers of the divisor graph $\mathcal{D}_{[1,n]}$ on vertices $v_1, \ldots, v_n$ with an edge between $v_i$ and $v_j$ if $i\mid j$ or $j \mid i$. We improve on recent results of Pomerance by showing $c_d = \lim_{n \to \infty }\left(\# S_{\rm div}(n)\right)^{1/n}$ exists and that $2.069<c_d<2.694$. We also obtain similar results for the set $S_{\rm lcm}(n)$ of permutations where ${\rm lcm}(j,π(j))\leq n$ for all $j$. The results rely on a graph theoretic result bounding the number of vertex-disjoint directed cycle covers, which may be of independent interest.

On the problem of the finiteness of the compressed zero divisor graphs of Artinian rings
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let R be an Artinian ring and G be the compressed zero-divisor graph associated to R. The question of when the clique number of compressed zero-divisor graphs is finite was raised by J. Coykendall, S. Sather-Wagstaff, L. Sheppardson, and S. Spiroff, in their survey paper entitled On Zero-divisor Graphs. They proved that if length of R is at most four then the clique number is finite. In the length six case they gave an example of a ring where the clique is infinite. In this paper we show that when length of ring is five then the clique number of compressed zero-divisor graph is finite.

Zero-Divisor Graphs of $\mathbb{Z}_n$, their products and $D_n$
Published • View PublicationBIB
This paper is an endeavor to discuss some properties of zero-divisor graphs of the ring $\mathbb{Z}_n$, the ring of integers modulo $n$. The zero divisor graph of a commutative ring $R$, is an undirected graph whose vertices are the nonzero zero-divisors of $R$, where two distinct vertices are adjacent if their product is zero. The zero divisor graph of $R$ is denoted by $Γ(R)$. We discussed $Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n)$'s by the attributes of completeness, k-partite structure, complete k-partite structure, regularity, chordality, $γ- β$ perfectness, simplicial vertices. The clique number for arbitrary $Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n)$ was also found. This work also explores related attributes of finite products $Γ(\mathbb{Z}_{n_1}\times\cdots\times\mathbb{Z}_{n_k})$, seeking to extend certain results to the product rings. We find all $Γ(\mathbb{Z}_{n_1}\times\cdots\times\mathbb{Z}_{n_k})$ that are perfect. Likewise, a lower bound of clique number of $Γ(\mathbb{Z}_m\times\mathbb{Z}_n)$ was found. Later, in this paper we discuss some properties of the zero divisor graph of the poset $D_n$, the set of positive divisors of a positive integer $n$ partially ordered by divisibility.

A note on the zero divisor graph of the ring of Lipschitz integers modulo $n$
Published • View PublicationBIB
In a recent paper, Grau et al. (2017) studied the zero divisor graphs of the ring of Lipschitz integers modulo $n$, and computed the domination number of the undirected zero divisor graph of the ring of Lipschitz integers modulo $n$. But the case $n$ is a power of prime numbers remained open. In this note, this problem is solved. We also show the automorphism group of the zero divisor graph of the ring of Lipschitz integers modulo $2^s$.
Proper divisor graph of a positive integer
The proper divisor graph $Υ_n$ of a positive integer $n$ is the simple graph whose vertices are the proper divisors of $n$, and in which two distinct vertices $u, v$ are adjacent if and only if $n$ divides $uv$. The graph $Υ_n$ plays an important role in the study of the zero divisor graph of the ring $\mathbb{Z}_n$. In this paper, we study some graph theoretic properties of $Υ_n$ and determine the graph parameters such as clique number, chromatic number, chromatic index, independence number, matching number, domination number, vertex and edge covering numbers of $Υ_n$. We also determine the automorphism group of $Υ_n$.

An overview on the bipartite divisor graph for the set of irreducible character degrees
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $G$ be a finite group. The bipartite divisor graph for the set of irreducible complex character degrees is the undirected graph with vertex set consisting of the prime numbers dividing some character degree and of the non-identity character degrees, where a prime number $p$ is declared to be adjacent to a character degree $m$ if and only if $p$ divides $m$. This graph is bipartite and it encodes two of the most widely studied graphs associated to the character degrees of a finite group: the prime graph and the divisor graph on the set of irreducible character degrees. The scope of this paper is two-fold. We draw some attention to the bipartite divisor graph for the set of irreducible complex character degrees by outlining the main results that have been proved so far. In this process we improve some of these results and we leave some open problems.
Laplacian eigenvalues of the zero divisor graph of the ring $\mathbb{Z}_{n}$
We study the Laplacian eigenvalues of the zero divisor graph $Γ\left(\mathbb{Z}_{n}\right)$ of the ring $\mathbb{Z}_{n}$ and prove that $Γ\left(\mathbb{Z}_{p^t}\right)$ is Laplacian integral for every prime $p$ and positive integer $t\geq 2$. We also prove that the Laplacian spectral radius and the algebraic connectivity of $Γ\left(\mathbb{Z}_{n}\right)$ for most of the values of $n$ are, respectively, the largest and the second smallest eigenvalues of the vertex weighted Laplacian matrix of a graph which is defined on the set of proper divisors of $n$. The values of $n$ for which algebraic connectivity and vertex connectivity of $Γ\left(\mathbb{Z}_{n}\right)$ coincide are also characterized.

Counting primitive subsets and other statistics of the divisor graph of $\{1,2, \ldots n\}$
Let $Q(n)$ denote the count of the primitive subsets of the integers $\{1,2\ldots n\}$. We give a new proof that $Q(n) = α^{(1+o(1))n}$ which allows us to give a good error term and to improve upon the lower bound for the value of this constant $α$. We also show that the method developed can be applied to many similar problems that can be stated in terms of the divisor graph, including other questions about primitive sets, geometric-progression-free sets, and the divisor graph path-cover problem.
Vertex and Edge connectivity of the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb {Z}_n]$
The Zero divisor Graph of a commutative ring $R$, denoted by $Γ[R]$, is a graph whose vertices are non-zero zero divisors of $R$ and two vertices are adjacent if their product is zero. In this paper we derive the Vertex and Edge Connectivity of the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$, for any natural number $n$ . We also discuss the minimum degree of the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$.

Adjacency Matrix and Energy of the Line Graph of $Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n)$
Let $Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n)$ be the zero divisor graph of the commutative ring $\mathbb{Z}_n$ and $L(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n))$ be the line graph of $Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n)$. In this paper, we discuss about the neighborhood of a vertex, the neighborhood number and the adjacency matrix of $L(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n))$. We also study Wiener index and energy of $L(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n))$, where $n=pq$, $p^2$ respectively for $p$ and $q$ are primes. Moreover, we give MATLAB coding of our calculations.

In this article, we study pancyclic properties of $Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n[i])$ and $\overline{Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n[i])}$ for different $n$. Also, we prove some results in which $L(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n[i]))$ and $\overline{L(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_n[i]))}$ to be pancyclic for different values of $n$.

Divisor graph of complement of Gamma(R)

Let overline{Γ(R)} be the complement of zero divisor graph of a finite commutative ring R. In this article, we have provided the answer of the question (ii) raised by Osba and Alkam in their paper and prove that overline{Γ(R)} is a divisor graph if R is a local ring. It is shown that when R is a product of two local rings, then overline{Γ(R)} is a divisor graph if one of them is an integral domain. Also, we prove that if cardinality of Ass(R) = 2, then overline{Γ(R)} is a divisor graph.
Eigenvalues and Wiener index of the Zero Divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb {Z}_n]$
The Zero divisor Graph of a commutative ring $R$, denoted by $Γ[R]$, is a graph whose vertices are non-zero zero divisors of $R$ and two vertices are adjacent if their product is zero. In this paper, we consider the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$ for $n=p^3$ and $n=p^2q$ with $p$ and $q$ primes. We discuss the adjacency matrix and eigenvalues of the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$. We also calculate the energy of the graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$.

The interplay between groups and graphs have been the most famous and productive area of algebraic graph theory. In this paper, we introduce and study the graphs whose vertex set is group G such that two distinct vertices a and b having different orders are adjacent provided that o(a) divides o(b) or o(b) divides o(a).

On Irreducible Divisor Graphs in Commutative Rings with Zero-Divisors
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we continue the program initiated by I. Beck's now classical paper concerning zero-divisor graphs of commutative rings. After the success of much research regarding zero-divisor graphs, many authors have turned their attention to studying divisor graphs of non-zero elements in the ring, the so called irreducible divisor graph. In this paper, we construct several different associated irreducible divisor graphs of a commutative ring with unity using various choices for the definition of irreducible and atomic in the literature. We continue pursuing the program of exploiting the interaction between algebraic structures and associated graphs to further our understanding of both objects. Factorization in rings with zero-divisors is considerably more complicated than integral domains; however, we find that many of the same techniques can be extended to rings with zero-divisors. This allows us to not only find graph theoretic characterizations of many of the finite factorization properties that commutative rings may possess, but also understand graph theoretic properties of graphs associated with certain commutative rings satisfying nice factorization properties.

Generalized Irreducible Divisor Graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
In 1988, I. Beck introduced the notion of a zero-divisor graph of a commutative rings with $1$. There have been several generalizations in recent years. In particular, in 2007 J. Coykendall and J. Maney developed the irreducible divisor graph. Much work has been done on generalized factorization, especially $τ$-factorization. The goal of this paper is to synthesize the notions of $τ$-factorization and irreducible divisor graphs in domains. We will define a $τ$-irreducible divisor graph for non-zero non-unit elements of a domain. We show that by studying $τ$-irreducible divisor graphs, we find equivalent characterizations of several finite $τ$-factorization properties.

Groups having complete bipartite divisor graphs for their conjugacy class sizes
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given a finite group G, the bipartite divisor graph for its conjugacy class sizes is the bipartite graph with bipartition consisting of the set of conjugacy class sizes of G-Z (where Z denotes the centre of G) and the set of prime numbers that divide these conjugacy class sizes, and with {p,n} being an edge if gcd(p,n)\neq 1. In this paper we construct infinitely many groups whose bipartite divisor graph for their conjugacy class sizes is the complete bipartite graph K_{2,5}, giving a solution to a question of Taeri.

Bipartite divisor graphs for integer subsets
Published • View PublicationBIB
Inspired by connections described in a recent paper by Mark L. Lewis, between the common divisor graph $\Ga(X)$ and the prime vertex graph $Δ(X)$, for a set $X$ of positive integers, we define the bipartite divisor graph $B(X)$, and show that many of these connections flow naturally from properties of $B(X)$. In particular we establish links between parameters of these three graphs, such as number and diameter of components, and we characterise bipartite graphs that can arise as $B(X)$ for some $X$. Also we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions, in terms of subconfigurations of $B(X)$, for one $Γ(X)$ or $Δ(X)$ to contain a complete subgraph of size 3 or 4.
