The main result is a common generalization of results on lower bounds for the chromatic number of r-uniform hypergraphs and some of the major theorems in Tverberg-type theory, which is concerned with the intersection pattern of faces in a simplicial complex when continuously mapped to Euclidean space. As an application we get a simple proof of a generalization of a result of Kriz for certain parameters. This specializes to a short and simple proof of Kneser's conjecture. Moreover, combining this result with recent work of Mabillard and Wagner we show that the existence of certain equivariant maps yields lower bounds for chromatic numbers. We obtain an essentially elementary proof of the result of Schrijver on the chromatic number of stable Kneser graphs. In fact, we show that every neighborly even-dimensional polytope yields a small induced subgraph of the Kneser graph of the same chromatic number. We furthermore use this geometric viewpoint to give tight lower bounds for the chromatic number of certain small subhypergraphs of Kneser hypergraphs.

There are several topological results ensuring the existence of a large complete bipartite subgraph in any properly colored graph satisfying some special topological regularity conditions. In view of $\mathbb{Z}_p$-Tucker lemma, Alishahi and Hajiabolhassan [{\it On the chromatic number of general Kneser hypergraphs, Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series B, 2015}] introduced a lower bound for the chromatic number of Kneser hypergraphs ${\rm KG}^r({\mathcal H})$. Next, Meunier [{\it Colorful subhypergraphs in Kneser hypergraphs, The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2014}] improved their result by proving that any properly colored general Kneser hypergraph ${\rm KG}^r({\mathcal H})$ contains a large colorful $r$-partite subhypergraph provided that $r$ is prime. In this paper, we give some new generalizations of $\mathbb{Z}_p$-Tucker lemma. Hence, improving Meunier's result in some aspects. Some new lower bounds for the chromatic number and local chromatic number of uniform hypergraphs are presented as well.

Let $k,d,λ\geqslant1$ be integers with $d\geqslantλ$. Let $m(k,d,λ)$ be the maximum positive integer $n$ such that every set of $n$ points (not necessarily in general position) in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ has the property that the convex hulls of all $k$-sets have a common transversal $(d-λ)$-plane. It turns out that $m(k, d,λ)$ is strongly connected with other interesting problems, for instance, the chromatic number of Kneser hypergraphs and a discrete version of Rado's centerpoint theorem. In the same spirit, we introduce a natural discrete version $m^*$ of $m$ by considering the existence of complete Kneser transversals. We study the relation between them and give a number of lower and upper bounds of $m^*$ as well as the exact value in some cases. The main ingredient for the proofs are Radon's partition theorem as well as oriented matroids tools. By studying the alternating oriented matroid we obtain the asymptotic behavior of the function $m^*$ for the family of cyclic polytopes.

One of the most famous conjecture in graph theory is Hedetniemi's conjecture stating that the chromatic number of the categorical product of graphs is the minimum of their chromatic numbers. Using a suitable extension of the definition of the categorical product, Zhu proposed in 1992 a similar conjecture for hypergraphs. We prove that Zhu's conjecture is true for the usual Kneser hypergraphs of same rank. It provides to the best of our knowledge the first non-trivial and explicit family of hypergraphs with rank larger than two satisfying this conjecture (the rank two case being Hedetniemi's conjecture). We actually prove a more general result providing a lower bound on the chromatic number of the categorical product of any Kneser hypergraphs as soon as they all have same rank. We derive from it new families of graphs satisfying Hedetniemi's conjecture. The proof of the lower bound relies on the $Z_p$-Tucker lemma.

The problem of computing the chromatic number of Kneser hypergraphs has been extensively studied over the last 40 years and the fractional version of the chromatic number of Kneser hypergraphs is only solved for particular cases. The \emph{$(p,q)$-extremal problem} consists in finding the maximum number of edges on a $k$-uniform hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ with $n$ vertices such that among any $p$ edges some $q$ of them have no empty intersection. In this paper we have found a link between the fractional chromatic number of Kneser hypergraphs and the $(p,q)$-extremal problem and also solve the $(p,q)$-extremal problem for graphs if $n$ is sufficiently large and $p \geq q \geq 3$ by proposing it as a problem of extremal graph theory. With the aid of this result we calculate the fractional chromatic number of Kneser hypergraphs when they are composed with sets of cardinality 2.

Using a $Z_q$-generalization of a theorem of Ky Fan, we extend to Kneser hypergraphs a theorem of Simonyi and Tardos that ensures the existence of multicolored complete bipartite graphs in any proper coloring of a Kneser graph. It allows to derive a lower bound for the local chromatic number of Kneser hypergraphs (using a natural definition of what can be the local chromatic number of a hypergraph).

In this paper, for sufficiently large $n$ we determine the Ramsey number $R(G,nH)$ where $G$ is a $k$-uniform hypergraph with the maximum independent set that intersects each of the edges in $k-1$ vertices and $H$ is a $k$-uniform hypergraph with a vertex so that the hypergraph induced by the edges containing this vertex is a star. There are several examples for such $G$ and $H$, among them are any disjoint union of $k$-uniform hypergraphs involving loose paths, loose cycles, tight paths, tight cycles with a multiple of $k$ edges, stars, Kneser hypergraphs and complete $k$-uniform $k$-partite hypergraphs for $G$ and linear hypergraphs for $H$. As an application, $R(mG,nH)$ is determined where $m$ or $n$ is large and $G$ and $H$ are either loose paths, loose cycles, tight paths, or stars. Also, $R(G,nH)$ is determined when $G$ is a bipartite graph with a matching saturating one of its color classes and $H$ is an arbitrary graph for sufficiently large $n$. Moreover, some bounds are given for $R(mG,nH)$ which allow us to determine this Ramsey number when $m\geq n$ and $G$ and $H$, $(|V(G)|\geq |V(H)|)$, are 3-uniform loose paths or cycles, $k$-uniform loose paths or cycles with at most 4 edges and $k$-uniform stars with 3 edges.

In this paper, in view of $Z_p$-Tucker lemma, we introduce a lower bound for chromatic number of Kneser hypergraphs which improves Dol'nikov-K{ř}{í}{ž} bound. Next, we introduce multiple Kneser hypergraphs and we specify the chromatic number of some multiple Kneser hypergraphs. For a vector of positive integers $\vec{s}=(s_1,s_2,\ldots,s_m)$ and a partition $π=(P_1,P_2,\ldots,P_m)$ of $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$, the multiple Kneser hypergraph ${\rm KG}^r(π; \vec{s};k)$ is a hypergraph with the vertex set $$V=\left\{A:\ A\subseteq P_1\cup P_2\cup\cdots \cup P_m,\ |A|=k, \forall 1\leq i\leq m;\ |A\cap P_i|\leq s_i\right\}$$ whose edge set is consist of any $r$ pairwise disjoint vertices. We determine the chromatic number of multiple Kneser hypergraphs provided that $r=2$ or for any $1\leq i\leq m$, we have $|P_i|\leq 2s_i$.
A subset $S \subseteq [n]$ is almost $s$-stable if for any two distinct elements $i,j\in S$, we have $|i-j|\geq s$. The almost $s$-stable Kneser hypergraph ${\rm KG}^r(n,k)_{s-stab}^{\sim}$ has all $s$-stable subsets of $[n]$ as the vertex set and every $r$-tuple of pairwise disjoint vertices forms an edge. Meunier [The chromatic number of almost stable Kneser hypergraphs. J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 118(6):1820--1828, 2011] showed for any positive integer $r$, $χ({\rm KG}^r(n,k)_{2-stab}^{\sim})=\left\lceil {n-r(k-1) \over r-1}\right\rceil$. We extend this result to a large family of Schrijver hypergraphs. Finally, we present a colorful-type result which confirms the existence of a completely multicolored complete bipartite graph in any coloring of a graph.
On the Chromatic Thresholds of Hypergraphs

Let F be a family of r-uniform hypergraphs. The chromatic threshold of F is the infimum of all non-negative reals c such that the subfamily of F comprising hypergraphs H with minimum degree at least $c \binom{|V(H)|}{r-1}$ has bounded chromatic number. This parameter has a long history for graphs (r=2), and in this paper we begin its systematic study for hypergraphs.
Łuczak and Thomassé recently proved that the chromatic threshold of the so-called near bipartite graphs is zero, and our main contribution is to generalize this result to r-uniform hypergraphs. For this class of hypergraphs, we also show that the exact Turán number is achieved uniquely by the complete (r+1)-partite hypergraph with nearly equal part sizes. This is one of very few infinite families of nondegenerate hypergraphs whose Turán number is determined exactly. In an attempt to generalize Thomassen's result that the chromatic threshold of triangle-free graphs is 1/3, we prove bounds for the chromatic threshold of the family of 3-uniform hypergraphs not containing {abc, abd, cde}, the so-called generalized triangle.
In order to prove upper bounds we introduce the concept of fiber bundles, which can be thought of as a hypergraph analogue of directed graphs. This leads to the notion of fiber bundle dimension, a structural property of fiber bundles that is based on the idea of Vapnik-Chervonenkis dimension in hypergraphs. Our lower bounds follow from explicit constructions, many of which use a hypergraph analogue of the Kneser graph. Using methods from extremal set theory, we prove that these Kneser hypergraphs have unbounded chromatic number. This generalizes a result of Szemerédi for graphs and might be of independent interest. Many open problems remain.

Let $V(n,k,s)$ be the set of $k$-subsets $S$ of $[n]$ such that for all $i,j\in S$, we have $|i-j|\geq s$ We define almost $s$-stable Kneser hypergraph $KG^r{{[n]}\choose k}_{s{\tiny{\textup{-stab}}}}^{\displaystyle\sim}$ to be the $r$-uniform hypergraph whose vertex set is $V(n,k,s)$ and whose edges are the $r$-uples of disjoint elements of $V(n,k,s)$.
With the help of a $Z_p$-Tucker lemma, we prove that, for $p$ prime and for any $n\geq kp$, the chromatic number of almost 2-stable Kneser hypergraphs $KG^p {{[n]}\choose k}_{2{\tiny{\textup{-stab}}}}^{\displaystyle\sim}$ is equal to the chromatic number of the usual Kneser hypergraphs $KG^p{{[n]}\choose k}$, namely that it is equal to $\lceil\frac{n-(k-1)p}{p-1}\rceil.$
Defining $μ(r)$ to be the number of prime divisors of $r$, counted with multiplicities, this result implies that the chromatic number of almost $2^{μ(r)}$-stable Kneser hypergraphs $KG^r{{[n]}\choose k}_{2^{μ(r)}{\tiny{\textup{-stab}}}}^{\displaystyle\sim}$ is equal to the chromatic number of the usual Kneser hypergraphs $KG^r{{[n]}\choose k}$ for any $n\geq kr$, namely that it is equal to $\lceil\frac{n-(k-1)r}{r-1}\rceil.$

In Ziegler (2002), the second author presented a lower bound for the chromatic numbers of hypergraphs $\KG{r}{\pmb s}{\calS}$, "generalized $r$-uniform Kneser hypergraphs with intersection multiplicities $\pmb s$." It generalized previous lower bounds by Kriz (1992/2000) for the case ${\pmb s}=(1,...,1)$ without intersection multiplicities, and by Sarkaria (1990) for $\calS=\tbinom{[n]}k$. Here we discuss subtleties and difficulties that arise for intersection multiplicities $s_i>1$:
1. In the presence of intersection multiplicities, there are two different versions of a "Kneser hypergraph," depending on whether one admits hypergraph edges that are multisets rather than sets. We show that the chromatic numbers are substantially different for the two concepts of hypergraphs. The lower bounds of Sarkaria (1990) and Ziegler (2002) apply only to the multiset version.
2. The reductions to the case of prime $r$ in the proofs Sarkaria and by Ziegler work only if the intersection multiplicities are strictly smaller than the largest prime factor of $r$. Currently we have no valid proof for the lower bound result in the other cases.
We also show that all uniform hypergraphs without multiset edges can be represented as generalized Kneser hypergraphs.
On generalised Kneser colourings
There are two possible definitions of the "s-disjoint r-uniform Kneser hypergraph'' of a set system T: The hyperedges are either r-sets or r-multisets. We point out that Ziegler's (combinatorial) lower bound on the chromatic number of an s-disjoint r-uniform Kneser hypergraph only holds if we consider r-multisets as hyperedges. We give a new proof of his result and show by example that a similar result does not hold if one considers r-sets as hyperedges.
In case of r-sets as hyperedges and $s \geq 2$ the only known lower bounds are obtained from topological invariants of associated simplicial complexes if r is a prime or the power of prime. This is also true for arbitrary r-uniform hypergraphs with r-sets or r-multisets as hyperedges as long as r is a power of a prime.
