Misère-play Hackenbush Sprigs
Published • View Publication • BIB
A Hackenbush Sprig is a Hackenbush String with the ground edge colored green and the remaining edges either red or blue. We show that in canonical form a Sprig is a star-based number (the ordinal sum of star and a dyadic rational) in misère-play, as well as in normal-play. We find the outcome of a disjunctive sum of Sprigs in misère-play and show that it is the same as the outcome of that sum plus star in normal-play. Along the way it is shown that the sum of a Sprig and its negative is equivalent to 0 in the universe of misère-play dicotic games, answering a question of Allen.

Partially Ordinal Sums and $P$-partitions
Published in The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics 19(4) (2012) #P29 • View Publication • BIB
We present a method of computing the generating function $f_P(\x)$ of $P$-partitions of a poset $P$. The idea is to introduce two kinds of transformations on posets and compute $f_P(\x)$ by recursively applying these transformations. As an application, we consider the partially ordinal sum $P_n$ of $n$ copies of a given poset, which generalizes both the direct sum and the ordinal sum. We show that the sequence $\{f_{P_n}(\x)\}_{n\ge 1}$ satisfies a finite system of recurrence relations with respect to $n$. We illustrate the method by several examples, including a kind of 3-rowed posets and the multi-cube posets.

Natural join construction of graded posets versus ordinal sum and discrete hyper boxes
One introduces here the natural join $P \os Q$ of graded posets $< P,\leq_P >$ and $< Q,\leq_Q >$ with correspondingly maximal and minimal sets being identical as expressed by ordinal sum $P\oplus Q$ apart from other definition and due to that one arrives at a simple proof of the $M{ö}bius $ function formula for cobweb posets. We also quote the other authors explicit formulas for the zeta matrix and its inverse for any graded posets with the finite set of minimal elements from earlier works of the author. These formulas are based on the formulas for cobweb posets and their $Hasse$ diagrams or graphs named $KoDAGs$ which are interpreted as chains of binary complete or universal relations joined by the natural join operation. Natural join of two independent sets is therefore the ordinal sum of this trivially ordered posets represented also by directed biclique named dibiclique and correspondingly by their $Hasse $ diagrams or graphs named $KoDAGs$. Such cobweb posets and equivalently their Hasse diagrams or graphs named $KoDAGs$ are also encoded by discrete hyper-boxes and the natural join operation of such discrete hyper boxes is just cartesian product of them accompanied with projection out of common faces. All graded posets with no mute vertices in their $Hasse$ diagrams which means that no vertex has indegree or outdegree equal zero are natural join of chain of relations and may be at the same time interpreted an $n-ary$ relation, $n \in N \cup \{\infty \}$.

On Derived Equivalences of Categories of Sheaves Over Finite Posets
Published in Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra 212 (2008), 435-451. • View Publication • BIB
A finite poset X carries a natural structure of a topological space. Fix a field k, and denote by D(X) the bounded derived category of sheaves of finite dimensional k-vector spaces over X. Two posets X and Y are said to be derived equivalent if D(X) and D(Y) are equivalent as triangulated categories. We give explicit combinatorial properties of a poset which are invariant under derived equivalence, among them are the number of points, the Z-congruency class of the incidence matrix, and the Betti numbers. Then we construct, for any closed subset Y of X, a strongly exceptional collection in D(X) and use it to show an equivalence between D(X) and the bounded derived category of a finite dimensional algebra A (depending on Y). We give conditions on X and Y under which A becomes an incidence algebra of a poset. We deduce that a lexicographic sum of a collection of posets along a bipartite graph is derived equivalent to the lexicographic sum of the same collection along the opposite graph. This construction produces many new derived equivalences of posets and generalizes other well known ones. As a corollary we show that the derived equivalence class of an ordinal sum of two posets does not depend on the order of summands. We give an example that this is not true for three summands.
