On the transmission-based graph topological indices
Published in Kragujevac Journal of Mathematics, 44(1) (2020) 44-63 • View PublicationBIB
The distance $d(u,v)$ between the vertices $u$ and $v$ of a connected graph $G$ is defined as the number of edges in a minimal path connecting them. The \emph{transmission} of a vertex $v$ of $G$ is defined by $σ(v)=\sum\limits_{u\in V(G)}{d(v,u)}$. In this article we aim to define some transmission-based topological indices. We obtain lower and upper bounds on these indices and characterize graphs for which these bounds are best possible. Finally, we find these indices for various graphs using the group of automorphisms of $G$. This is an efficient method of finding these indices especially when the automorphism group of $G$ has a few orbits on $V(G)$ or $E(G)$.

Topological indices of k-th subdivision and semi total point graphs
Graph theory has provided a very useful tool, called topological indices which are a number obtained from the graph $G$ with the property that every graph $H$ isomorphic to $G$, value of a topological index must be same for both $G$ and $H$. In this article, we present exact expressions for some topological indices of k-th subdivision graph and semi total point graphs respectively, which are a generalization of ordinary subdivision and semi total graph for $k\ge 1$.

F-index of graphs based on new operations related to the join of graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
The forgotten topological index or F-index of a graph is defined as the sum of degree cube of all the vertices of the graph. This index was introduced by Gutman and Trinajestić more than 40 years ago. In this paper, we derive F-index of new operations of subdivision graphs related to the graphs join.
Predicting Melting Points by the Graovac-Pisanski Index
Published in Fuller. Nanotub. Car. N. 26 (2018) 239-245 • View PublicationBIB
Theoretical molecular descriptors alias topological indices are a convenient means for expressing in a numerical form the chemical structure encoded in a molecular graph. The structure descriptors derived from molecular graphs are widely used in Quantitative Structure-Property Relationship (QSPR) and Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR). In this paper, we are interested in the Graovac-Pisanski index (also called modified Wiener index) introduced in 1991 by Graovac and Pisanski, which encounters beside the distances in a molecular graph also its symmetries. In the QSPR analysis we first calculate the Graovac-Pisanski index for different families of hydrocarbon molecules using a simple program and then we show a correlation with the melting points of considered molecules. We show that the melting points of the alkane series can be very effectively predicted by the Graovac-Pisanski index and for the rest of considered molecules (PAH's and octane isomers) the regression models are different, but we establish some correlation with the melting points for them as well.

The $M$-Polynomial and Topological Indices of Generalized Möbius Ladder and Its Line Graph
The $M$-polynomial was introduced by Deutsch and Klavžar in 2015 as a graph polynomial to provide an easy way to find closed formulas of degree-based topological indices, which are used to predict physical, chemical, and pharmacological properties of organic molecules. In this paper we give general closed forms of the $M$-polynomial of the generalized Möbius ladder and its line graph. We also compute Zagreb Indices, generalized Randić indices, and symmetric division index of these graphs via the $M$-polynomial.

Graphs having extremal monotonic topological indices with bounded vertex $k$-partiteness
Published • View PublicationBIB
The vertex $k$-partiteness $v_k(G)$ of graph $G$ is defined as the fewest number of vertices whose deletion from $G$ yields a $k$-partite graph. In this paper, we introduce two concepts: monotonic decreasing topological index and monotonic increasing topological index, and characterize the extremal graphs having the minimum Wiener index, the maximum Harry index, the maximum reciprocal degree distance, the minimum eccentricity distance sum, the minimum adjacent eccentric distance sum index, the maximum connective eccentricity index, the maximum Zagreb indices among graphs with a fixed number $n$ of vertices and fixed vertex $k$-partiteness, respectively.

On the Extremal Graphs with Respect to Bond Incident Degree Indices
Published in Discrete Appl. Math. 238, (2018) 32-40 • View PublicationBIB
Many existing degree based topological indices can be classified as bond incident degree (BID) indices, whose general form is $BID(G)=\sum_{uv\in E(G)}$ $Ψ(d_{u},d_{v})$, where $uv$ is the edge connecting the vertices $u,v$ of the graph $G$, $E(G)$ is the edge set of $G$, $d_{u}$ is the degree of the vertex $u$ and $Ψ$ is a non-negative real valued (symmetric) function of $d_{u}$ and $d_{v}$. Here, it has been proven that if the extension of $Ψ$ to the interval $[0,\infty)$ satisfies certain conditions then the extremal $(n,m)$-graph with respect to the BID index (corresponding to $Ψ$) must contain at least one vertex of degree $n-1$. It has been shown that these conditions are satisfied for the general sum-connectivity index (whose special cases are: the first Zagreb index and the Hyper Zagreb index), for the general Platt index (whose special cases are: the first reformulated Zagreb index and the Platt index) and for the variable sum exdeg index. Applying aforementioned result, graphs with maximum values of the aforementioned BID indices among tree, unicyclic, bicyclic, tricyclic and tetracyclic graphs were characterized. Some of these results are new and the already existing results are proven in a shorter and more unified way.

The forgotten topological index or F-index of a graph is defined as the sum of cubes of the degree of all the vertices of the graph. In this paper we study the F-index of four operations related to the lexicographic product on graphs which were introduced by Sarala et al. [D. Sarala, H. Deng, S.K. Ayyaswamya and S. Balachandrana, The Zagreb indices of graphs based on four new operations related to the lexicographic product, \textit{Applied Mathematics and Computation}, 309 (2017) 156--169.].

The Edge-Wiener Index, the Szeged Indices and the PI Index of Benzenoid Systems in Sub-Linear Time
Published in MATCH Commun. Math. Comput. Chem. 78 (2017) 675-688 • Search Publication
In this paper, we investigate the edge-Wiener index, the Szeged index, the edge-Szeged index, and the PI index, which are some of the most studied distance-based topological indices. As the main result we show that for benzenoid systems these indices can be computed in sub-linear time with respect to the number of vertices. More precisely, they can be computed in the time dependent on the length of the boundary cycle of a benzenoid system.

Many types of topological indices such as degree-based topological indices, distance-based topological indices and counting related topological indices are explored during past recent years. Among degree based topological indices, Zagreb indices are the oldest one and studied well. In the paper, we define a generalized multiplicative version of these indices and compute exact formulas for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Jagged-Rectangle Benzenoid Systems.

Bounds on some monotonic topological indices of bipartite graphs with a given number of cut edges
Let $I(G)$ be a topological index of a graph. If $I(G+e)<I(G)$ (or $I(G+e)>I(G)$, respectively) for each edge $e\not\in G$, then $I(G)$ is monotonically decreasing (or increasing, respectively) with the addition of edges. In this article, we present lower or upper bounds for some monotonic topological indices, including the Wiener index, the hyper-Wiener index, the Harary index, the connective eccentricity index, the eccentricity distance sum of bipartite graphs in terms of the number of cut edges, and characterize the corresponding extremal graphs, respectively.

Predicting some physicochemical properties of octane isomers: A topological approach using ev-degree and ve-degree Zagreb indices
Published • View PublicationBIB
Topological indices have important role in theoretical chemistry for QSPR researches. Among the all topological indices the Randić and the Zagreb indices have been used more considerably than any other topological indices in chemical and mathematical literature. Most of the topological indices as in the Randić and the Zagreb indices are based on the degrees of the vertices of a connected graph. Recently novel two degree concepts have been defined in graph theory; ev-degrees and ve-degrees. In this study we define ev-degree Zagreb index, ve-degree Zagreb indices and ve-degree Randić index by using these new graph invariants as parallel to their corresponding classical degree versions. We compare these new group ev-degree and ve-degree indices with the other well-known and most used topological indices in literature such as; Wiener, Zagreb and Randić indices by modelling some physicochemical properties of octane isomers. We show that the ev-degree Zagreb index, the ve-degree Zagreb and the ve-degree Randić indices give better correlation than Wiener, Zagreb and Randić indices to predict the some specific physicochemical properties of octanes. We investigate the relations between the second Zagreb index and ev-degree and ve-degree Zagreb indices and some mathematical properties of ev-degree and ve-degree Zagreb indices. Keywords:

On eccentricity version of Laplacian energy of a graph
The energy of a graph G is equal to the sum of absolute values of the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix of G, whereas the Laplacian energy of a graph G is equal to the sum of the absolute value of the difference between the eigenvalues of the Laplacian matrix of G and average degree of the vertices of G. Motivated by the work from Sharafdini et al. [R. Sharafdini, H. Panahbar, Vertex weighted Laplacian graph energy and other topological indices. J. Math. Nanosci. 2016, 6, 49-57.], in this paper we investigate the eccentricity version of Laplacian energy of a graph G.
New inequalities involving the Geometric-Arithmetic index
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a simple connected graph and $d_i$ be the degree of its $i$th vertex. In a recent paper [J. Math. Chem. 46 (2009) 1369-1376] the first geometric-arithmetic index of a graph $G$ was defined as $$GA_1=\sum_{ij\in E}\frac{2 \sqrt{d_i d_j}}{d_i + d_j}.$$ This graph invariant is useful for chemical proposes. The main use of $GA_1$ is for designing so-called quantitative structure-activity relations and quantitative structure-property relations. In this paper we obtain new inequalities involving the geometric-arithmetic index $GA_1$ and characterize the graphs which make the inequalities tight. In particular, we improve some known results, generalize other, and we relate $GA_1$ to other well-known topological indices.

Splice Graphs and Their Topological Indices
Published in Kragujevac J. Sci. 35 (2013) 89-98 • Search Publication
Let $G_1=(V_1,E_1)$ and $G_2=(V_2,E_2)$ be two graphs with disjoint vertex sets $V_1$ and $V_2$. Let $u_1 \in V_1$ and $u_2 \in V_2$. A splice of $G_1$ and $G_2$ by vertices $u_1$ and $u_2$, $\mathcal{S}(G_1,G_2;u_1,u_2)$, is defined by identifying the vertices $u_1$ and $u_2$ in the union of $G_1$ and $G_2$. In this paper we calculate the Szeged, edge-Szeged, $PI$, vertex-$PI$ and eccentric connectivity indices of splice graphs.

Vertex weighted Laplacian graph energy and other topological indices
Published in Journal of Mathematical Nanoscience, (6) 2016, 49-57 • Search Publication
Let $G$ be a graph with a vertex weight $ω$ and the vertices $v_1,\ldots,v_n$. The Laplacian matrix of $G$ with respect to $ω$ is defined as $L_ω(G)=\mathrm{diag}(ω(v_1),\cdots,ω(v_n))-A(G)$, where $A(G)$ is the adjacency matrix of $G$. Let $μ_1,\cdots,μ_n$ be eigenvalues of $L_ω(G)$. Then the Laplacian energy of $G$ with respect to $ω$ defined as $LE_ω(G)=\sum_{i=1}^n\big|μ_i - \barω\big|$, where $\barω$ is the average of $ω$, i.e., $\barω=\dfrac{\sum_{i=1}^{n}ω(v_i)}{n}$. In this paper we consider several natural vertex weights of $G$ and obtain some inequalities between the ordinary and Laplacian energies of $G$ with corresponding vertex weights. Finally, we apply our results to the molecular graph of toroidal fullerenes (or achiral polyhex nanotorus).

Maximum atom-bond connectivity index with given graph parameters
Published in Discrete Appl. Math., 2016 • View PublicationBIB
The atom-bond connectivity (ABC) index is a degree-based topological index. It was introduced due to its applications in modeling the properties of certain molecular structures and has been since extensively studied. In this note, we examine the influence on the extremal values of the ABC index by various graph parameters. More specifically, we consider the maximum ABC index of connected graphs of given order, with fixed independence number, number of pendent vertices, chromatic number and edge-connectivity respectively. We provide characterizations of extremal structures as well as some conjectures. Numerical analysis of the extremal values are also presented.

The length of the smallest path between two vertices is called the distance. Mathematical chemistry is the area of research engaged in new application of mathematics in chemistry. In mathematics chemistry, we have many topological indices for any molecular graph, that they are invariant on the graph automorphism. In this research paper, we computing the Wiener index and the Hosoya polynomial of the Jahangir graphs $J_5,m$ for all integer number $m \geq 3$.

There are various topological indices such as degree based topological indices, distance based topological indices and counting related topological indices etc. These topological indices correlate certain physicochemical properties such as boiling point, stability of chemical compounds. In this paper, we compute the sum-connectivity index and multiplicative Zagreb indices for certain networks of chemical importance like silicate networks, hexagonal networks, oxide networks, and honeycomb networks. Moreover, a comparative study using computer-based graphs has been made to clarify their nature for these families of networks.

Some Aspects of the Wiener Index for Sun Graphs
The Wiener index $W(G)$ is the sum of distances of all pairs of vertices of the graph $G$. The Wiener polarity index $W_{p}(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the number of unordered pairs of vertices $u$ and $v$ of $G$ such that the distance $d_{G}(u,v)$ between $u$ and $v$ is $3$. In this paper the Wiener and the Wiener polarity indices of sun graphs are computed. A relationship between those indices with some other topological indices are presented. Finally, we find the Hosoya (Wiener) polynomial for sun graphs.
