Characterization of finite metric space by their isometric sequences
Let $(X,d)$ be a finite metric space with $|X|=n$. For a positive integer $k$ we define $A_k(X)$ to be the quotient set of all $k$-subsets of $X$ by isometry, and we denote $|A_k(X)|$ by $a_k$. The sequence $(a_1,a_2,\ldots,a_{n})$ is called the isometric sequence of $(X,d)$. In this article we aim to characterize finite metric spaces by their isometric sequences under one of the following assumptions: (i) $a_k=1$ for some $k$ with $2\leq k\leq n-2$; (ii) $a_k=2$ for some $k$ with $4\leq k\leq \frac{1+\sqrt{1+4n}}{2}$; (iii) $a_3=2$; (iv) $a_2=a_3=3$. Furthermore, we give some criterion on how to embed such finite metric spaces to Euclidean spaces. We give some maximum cardinalities of subsets in the $d$-dimensional Euclidean space with small $a_3$, which are analogue problems on a sets with few distinct triangles discussed by Epstein, Lott, Miller and Palsson.
Characterization of finite colored spaces with certain conditions
A colored space is the pair $(X,r)$ of a set $X$ and a function $r$ whose domain is $\binom{X}{2}$. Let $(X,r)$ be a finite colored space and $Y,Z\subseteq X$. We shall write $Y\simeq_r Z$ if there exists a bijection $f:Y\to Z$ such that $r(U)=r(f(U))$ for each $U\in\binom{Y}{2}$. We denote the numbers of equivalence classes with respect to $\simeq_r$ contained in $\binom{X}{2}$ and $\binom{X}{3}$ by $a_2(r)$ and $a_3(r)$, respectively. In this paper we prove that $a_2(r)\leq a_3(r)$ when $5\leq |X|$, and show what happens when the equality holds.
Common factors in automatic and Sturmian sequences
In this short note we show that a k-automatic sequence and a Sturmian sequence cannot have arbitrarily large factors in common.
An $L^2$-identity and pinned distance problem

Let $μ$ be a Frostman measure on $E\subset\mathbb{R}^d$. The spherical average decay $$\int_{S^{d-1}}|\widehatμ(rω)|^2\,dω\lesssim r^{-β} $$ was originally used to attack Falconer distance conjecture, via Mattila's integral. In this paper we consider the pinned distance problem, a stronger version of Falconer distance problem, and show that spherical average decay implies the same dimensional threshold on both of them. In particular, with the best known spherical average estimates, we improve Peres-Schlag's result on pinned distance problem significantly.
The idea is to reduce the pinned distance problem to an integral where spherical averages apply. The key ingredient is the following identity. Using a group action argument, we show that for any Schwartz function $f$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$ and any $x\in\mathbb{R}^d$, $$\int_0^\infty |ω_t*f(x)|^2\,t^{d-1}dt\,=\int_0^\infty|\widehat{ω_r}*f(x)|^2\,r^{d-1}dr,$$ where $ω_r$ is the normalized surface measure on $r S^{d-1}$. An interesting remark is that the right hand side can be easily seen equal to $$c_d\int\left|D_x^{-\frac{d-1}{2}}e^{-2πi t\sqrt{-Δ}}f(x)\right|^2\,dt=c_d'\int\left|D_x^{-\frac{d-2}{2}}e^{2πi tΔ}f(x)\right|^2\,dt.$$ An alternative derivation of Mattila's integral via group actions is also given in the Appendix.

In this paper we study the randomly edge colored graph that is obtained by adding randomly colored random edges to an arbitrary randomly edge colored dense graph. In particular we ask how many colors and how many random edges are needed so that the resultant graph contains a fixed number of edge disjoint rainbow Hamilton cycles. We also ask when in the resultant graph every pair of vertices is connected by a rainbow path.
Twists and Twistability

Metrically homogeneous graphs are connected graphs which, when endowed with the path metric, are homogeneous as metric spaces. In this paper we introduce the concept of twisted automorphisms, a notion of isomorphism up to a permutation of the language. We find all permutations of the language which are associated with twisted automorphisms of metrically homogeneous graphs. For each non-trivial permutation of this type we also characterize the class of metrically homogeneous graphs which allow a twisted isomorphism associated with that permutation. The permutations we find are, remarkably, precisely those found by Bannai and Bannai in an analogous result in the context of finite association schemes.
On a fractional version of Haemers' bound

In this note, we present a fractional version of Haemers' bound on the Shannon capacity of a graph, which is originally due to Blasiak. This bound is a common strengthening of both Haemers' bound and the fractional chromatic number of a graph. We show that this fractional version outperforms any bound on the Shannon capacity that could be attained through Haemers' bound. We show also that this bound is multiplicative, unlike Haemers' bound.
Completing the Structural Analysis of the 2x4 Permutation Classes
We study the structure and enumeration of the final two 2x4 permutation classes, completing a research program that has spanned almost two decades. For both classes, careful structural analysis produces a complicated functional equation. One of these equations is solved with the guess-and-check paradigm, while the other is solved with kernel method-like techniques and Gröbner basis calculations.

A nonnegative multidimensional matrix is called polystochastic if the sum of its entries over each line is equal to $1$. In this paper we overview known results on positiveness of the permanent of polystochastic matrices and prove that the permanent of every $4$-dimensional polystochastic matrix of order $4$ is greater than zero.

An $(n_3)$ configuration is an incidence structure equivalent to a linear hypergraph on $n$ vertices which is both 3-regular and 3-uniform. We investigate a variant in which one constraint, say 3-regularity, is present, and we allow exactly one line to have size four, exactly one line to have size two, and all other lines to have size three. In particular, we study planar (Euclidean or projective) representations, settling the existence question and adapting Steinitz' theorem for this setting.
On the computability of graphons
We investigate the relative computability of exchangeable binary relational data when presented in terms of the distribution of an invariant measure on graphs, or as a graphon in either $L^1$ or the cut distance. We establish basic computable equivalences, and show that $L^1$ representations contain fundamentally more computable information than the other representations, but that $0'$ suffices to move between computable such representations. We show that $0'$ is necessary in general, but that in the case of random-free graphons, no oracle is necessary. We also provide an example of an $L^1$-computable random-free graphon that is not weakly isomorphic to any graphon with an a.e. continuous version.
A structure theorem for euclidean buildings

We prove an affine analog of Scharlau's reduction theorem for spherical buildings. To be a bit more precise let $X$ be a euclidean building with spherical building $\partial X$ at infinity. Then there exists a euclidean building $\bar X$ such that $X$ splits as a product of $\bar X$ with some euclidean $k$-space such that $\partial \bar X$ is the thick reduction of $\partial X$ in the sense of Scharlau. \newline In addition we prove a converse statement saying that an embedding of a thick spherical building at infinity extends to an embedding of the euclidean building having the extended spherical building as its boundary.
Extremal values of the Sackin tree balance index

Tree balance plays an important role in different research areas like theoretical computer science and mathematical phylogenetics. For example, it has long been known that under the Yule model, a pure birth process, imbalanced trees are more likely than balanced ones. Also, concerning ordered search trees, more balanced ones allow for more efficient data structuring than imbalanced ones. Therefore, different methods to measure the balance of trees were introduced. The Sackin index is one of the most frequently used measures for this purpose. In many contexts, statements about the minimal and maximal values of this index have been discussed, but formal proofs have only been provided for some of them, and only in the context of ordered binary (search) trees, not for general rooted trees. Moreover, while the number of trees with maximal Sackin index as well as the number of trees with minimal Sackin index when the number of leaves is a power of 2 are relatively easy to understand, the number of trees with minimal Sackin index for all other numbers of leaves has been completely unknown. In this manuscript, we extend the findings on trees with minimal and maximal Sackin indices from the literature on ordered trees and subsequently use our results to provide formulas to explicitly calculate the numbers of such trees. We also extend previous studies by analyzing the case when the underlying trees need not be binary. Finally, we use our results to contribute both to the phylogenetic as well as the computer scientific literature by using the new findings on Sackin minimal and maximal trees in order to derive formulas to calculate the number of both minimal and maximal phylogenetic trees as well as minimal and maximal ordered trees both in the binary and non-binary settings. All our results have been implemented in the Mathematica package SackinMinimizer, which has been made publicly available.

It is established that there exists an absolute constant $c>0$ such that for any finite set $A$ of positive real numbers $$|AA+A| \gg |A|^{\frac{3}{2}+c}.$$ On the other hand, we give an explicit construction of a finite set $A \subset \mathbb R$ such that $|AA+A|=o(|A|^2)$, disproving a conjecture of Balog.
Irreducible 4-critical triangle-free toroidal graphs
The theory of Dvorak, Kral, and Thomas (2015) shows that a 4-critical triangle-free graph embedded in the torus has only a bounded number of faces of length greater than 4 and that the size of these faces is also bounded. We study the natural reduction in such embedded graphs - identification of opposite vertices in 4-faces. We give a computer-assisted argument showing that there are exactly four 4-critical triangle-free irreducible toroidal graphs in which this reduction cannot be applied without creating a triangle. Using this result, we show that every 4-critical triangle-free graph embedded in the torus has at most four 5-faces, or a 6-face and two 5-faces, or a 7-face and a 5-face, in addition to at least seven 4-faces. This result serves as a basis for the exact description of $4$-critical triangle-free toroidal graphs, which we present in a followup paper.
Hypercube Packings and Coverings with Higher Dimensional Rooks
We introduce a generalization of classical $q$-ary codes by allowing points to cover other points that are Hamming distance $1$ or $2$ in a freely chosen subset of all directions. More specifically, we generalize the notion of $1$-covering, $1$-packing, and $2$-packing in the case of $q$-ary codes. In the covering case, we establish the analog of the sphere-packing bound and in the packing case, we establish an analog of the singleton bound. Given these analogs, in the covering case we establish that the sphere-packing bound is asymptotically never tight except in trivial cases. This is in essence an analog of a seminal result of Rodemich regarding $q$-ary codes. In the packing case we establish for the $1$-packing and $2$-packing cases that the analog of the singleton bound is tight in several possible cases and conjecture that these bounds are optimal in general.

Let $t$ be a positive real number. A graph is called $t$-tough if the removal of any vertex set $S$ that disconnects the graph leaves at most $|S|/t$ components, and all graphs are considered 0-tough. The toughness of a graph is the largest $t$ for which the graph is $t$-tough, whereby the toughness of complete graphs is defined as infinity. A graph is minimally $t$-tough if the toughness of the graph is $t$, and the deletion of any edge from the graph decreases the toughness. In this paper, we investigate the minimum degree and the recognizability of minimally $t$-tough graphs in the classes of chordal graphs, split graphs, claw-free graphs, and $2K_2$-free graphs.

We prove two estimates for the expectation of the exponential of a complex function of a random permutation or subset. Using this theory, we find asymptotic expressions for the expected number of copies and induced copies of a given graph in a uniformly random graph with degree sequence $(d_1,\ldots,d_n)$ as $n \rightarrow \infty$. We also determine the expected number of spanning trees in this model. The range of degrees covered includes $d_j = λn + O(n^{1/2+\varepsilon})$ for some $λ$ bounded away from $0$ and $1$.

An infinite family of subcubic graphs with unbounded packing chromatic number
Recently, Balogh, Kostochka and Liu in [Packing chromatic number of cubic graphs, Discrete Math.~341 (2018) 474--483] answered in negative the question that was posed in several earlier papers whether the packing chromatic number is bounded in the class of graphs with maximum degree $3$. In this note, we present an explicit infinite family of subcubic graphs with unbounded packing chromatic number.
