Pattern Avoidance in Parking Functions

In this paper, we view parking functions viewed as labeled Dyck paths in order to study a notion of pattern avoidance first introduced by Remmel and Qiu. In particular we enumerate the parking functions avoiding any set of two or more patterns of length 3, and we obtain a number of well-known combinatorial sequences as a result. Along the way, we find bijections between specific sets of pattern-avoiding parking functions and a number of combinatorial objects such as partitions of polygons and trees with certain restrictions.
Multivariate Difference Gončarov Polynomials

Univariate delta Gončarov polynomials arise when the classical Gončarov interpolation problem in numerical analysis is modified by replacing derivatives with delta operators. When the delta operator under consideration is the backward difference operator, we acquire the univariate difference Gončarov polynomials, which have a combinatorial relation to lattice paths in the plane with a given right boundary. In this paper, we extend several algebraic and analytic properties of univariate difference Gončarov polynomials to the multivariate case. We then establish a combinatorial interpretation of multivariate difference Gončarov polynomials in terms of certain constraints on $d$-tuples of non-decreasing integer sequences. This motivates a connection between multivariate difference Gončarov polynomials and a higher-dimensional generalized parking function, the $\boldsymbol{U}$-parking function, from which we derive several enumerative results based on the theory of multivariate delta Gončarov polynomials.
On Increasing and Invariant Parking Sequences
The notion of parking sequences is a new generalization of parking functions introduced by Ehrenborg and Happ. In the parking process defining the classical parking functions, instead of each car only taking one parking space, we allow the cars to have different sizes and each takes up a number of adjacent parking spaces after a trailer $T$ parked on the first $z-1$ spots. A preference sequence in which all the cars are able to park is called a parking sequence. In this paper, we study increasing parking sequences and count them via bijections to lattice paths with right boundaries. Then we study two notions of invariance in parking sequences and present various characterizations and enumerative results.

Given a strictly increasing sequence $\mathbf{t}$ with entries from $[n]:=\{1,\ldots,n\}$, a parking completion is a sequence $\mathbf{c}$ with $|\mathbf{t}|+|\mathbf{c}|=n$ and $|\{t\in \mathbf{t}\mid t\le i\}|+|\{c\in \mathbf{c}\mid c\le i\}|\ge i$ for all $i$ in $[n]$. We can think of $\mathbf{t}$ as a list of spots already taken in a street with $n$ parking spots and $\mathbf{c}$ as a list of parking preferences where the $i$-th car attempts to park in the $c_i$-th spot and if not available then proceeds up the street to find the next available spot, if any. A parking completion corresponds to a set of preferences $\mathbf{c}$ where all cars park.
We relate parking completions to enumerating restricted lattice paths and give formulas for both the ordered and unordered variations of the problem by use of a pair of operations termed \textbf{Join} and \textbf{Split}. Our results give a new volume formula for most Pitman-Stanley polytopes, and enumerate the signature parking functions of Ceballos and González D'León.

Classical Gončarov polynomials arose in numerical analysis as a basis for the solutions of the Gončarov interpolation problem. These polynomials provide a natural algebraic tool in the enumerative theory of parking functions. By replacing the differentiation operator with a delta operator and using the theory of finite operator calculus, Lorentz, Tringali and Yan introduced the sequence of generalized Gončarov polynomials associated to a pair $(Δ, Z)$ of a delta operator $Δ$ and an interpolation grid $Z$. Generalized Gončarov polynomials share many nice algebraic properties and have a connection with the theories of binomial enumeration and order statistics. In this paper we give a complete combinatorial interpretation for any sequence of generalized Gončarov polynomials. First, we show that they can be realized as weight enumerators in partition lattices. Then, we give a more concrete realization in exponential families and show that these polynomials enumerate various enriched structures of vector parking functions.

We find a relation between the genus of a quotient of a numerical semigroup $S$ and the genus of $S$ itself. We use this identity to compute the genus of a quotient of $S$ when $S$ has embedding dimension $2$. We also exhibit identities relating the Frobenius numbers and the genus of quotients of numerical semigroups that are generated by certain types of arithmetic progressions.
