$α$-numbers, diophantine exponent and factorisations of sturmian words
We introduce the notion of $α$-numbers and formal intercept of sturmian words, and derive from this study general factorisations formula for sturmian words. Sturmian words are defined as infinite words with lowest unbound complexity, and are characterized by two parameters, the first one being well-known as the slope, and the second being their formal intercepts. We build this formalism by a study of Rauzy graphs of sturmian words, and we use this caracterisation to compute the repetition function of sturmian words and their diophantine exponent. We then develop these techniques to provide general factorisations formulas for sturmian words.
Formal Intercept of Sturmian words
We give a combinatorial definition of the second parameter describing Sturmian words, that we call formal intercept, as an infinite Ostrowski expansion. We recall the well-known properties of Sturmian words, study factors graphs and repetition function, and end with the definition of formal intercepts.
On a new conjecture about super-monochromatic factorisations and ultimate periodicity
We study a conjecture linking ultimate periodicity of infnite words to the existence of colorings on finite words avoiding monochromatic factorisation of suffixes, with the extra condition that the ordered concatenation of elements of this factorisation remains monochromatic. This type of results shows the limits of Ramsey theory in the context of combinatorics on words. We show some reductions of the problem and the example of the Zimin word. Using the new notion of consecutive length, we show that words avoiding large squares fulfill the conjecture.

In 2006 T. Brown asked the following question: Given a non-periodic infinite word $x=x_1x_2x_3\cdots$ with values in a non-empty set $\mathbb{A},$ does there exist a finite coloring $\varphi: \mathbb{A}^+\rightarrow C$ relative to which $x$ does not admit a $\varphi$-monochromatic factorisation, i.e., a factorisation of the form $x=u_1u_2u_3\cdots$ with $\varphi(u_i)=\varphi(u_j)$ for all $i,j\geq 1$? Various partial results in support of an affirmative answer to this question have appeared in the literature in recent years. In particular it is known that the question admits an affirmative answer for all non-uniformly recurrent words and various classes of uniformly recurrent words including Sturmian words. In this note we answer this question in general by showing that if $x=x_1x_2x_3\cdots$ is an infinite word with values in a non-empty set $\mathbb{A},$ then $x$ is periodic if and only if for every $2$-coloring $\varphi: \mathbb{A}^+\rightarrow \{0,1\}$ there exists a $\varphi$-monochromatic factorisation of $x.$ This characterization of periodicity of infinite words may be reformulated in the language of ultrafilters. Let $β\mathbb{A}^+$ denote the Stone-Cech compactification of the discrete semigroup $\mathbb{A}^+$ which we regard as the set of all ultrafilters on $\mathbb{A}^+.$ Then $x$ is periodic if and only if there exists $p\in β\mathbb{A}^+$ such that for each $A\in p$ there exists a factorisation $x=u_1u_2u_3\cdots $ with each $u_i \in A.$
