Signless Laplacian spectral conditions: Forbidden $4$-cycle and star embeddings
The signless Laplacian spectral radius has emerged as a crucial spectral parameter in network science. This paper establishes new extremal results in spectral graph theory by investigating the signless Laplacian spectral radius ($Q$-index) of graphs with forbidden subgraphs. We present a $Q$-spectral analog of classical Nosal-type theorems, providing sharp conditions that guarantee the existence of either a $4$-cycle or a large star $K_{1,m-k}$ in a graph. The main theorem states that for integers $k \geq 0$ and graphs $G$ with size $m \geq \max\{7k+31, k^2+8(k+1)\}$, if $q(G) \geq q(S^+_{m,k+1})$, then $G$ must contain a $4$-cycle or $K_{1,m-k}$, unless $G$ is isomorphic to the extremal graph $S^+_{m,k+1}$ formed by adding $k+1$ independent edges to the star $K_{1,m-k-1}$. This result refines previous work on star embeddings by Wang and Guo [Journal of Algebraic Combinatorics, 59 (2024) 213--224], and completes the $Q$-spectral counterpart to Wang's adjacency spectral theorem for $4$-cycle containment [Discrete Math., 345 (2022) 112973]. Our analysis reveals new insights into how signless Laplacian eigenvalues encode graph structure, with tight bounds demonstrated through explicit extremal graph constructions and asymptotic analysis.
A Max-Min problem on spectral radius and connectedness of graphs
In the past decades, many scholars concerned which edge-extremal problems have spectral analogues? Recently, Wang, Kang and Xue showed an interesting result on $F$-free graphs [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 159 (2023) 20--41]. In this paper, we study the above problem on critical graphs.Let $P$ be a property defined on a family $\mathbb{G}$ of graphs. A graph $G$ in $\mathbb{G}$ is said to be $P$-critical,if it has the property $P$ but $G-e$ no longer has for any edge $e\in E(G)$. Especially, a graph is minimally $k$-(edge)-connected,if it is $k$-connected (respectively, $k$-edge connected) and deleting an arbitrary edge always leaves a graph which is not $k$-connected (respectively, $k$-edge-connected). An interesting Max-Min problem asks what is the maximal spectral radius of an $n$-vertex minimally $k$-(edge)-connected graphs? In 2019, Chen and Guo [Discrete Math. 342 (2019) 2092--2099] gave the answer for $k=2$. In 2021, Fan, Goryainov and Lin [Discrete Appl. Math. 305 (2021) 154--163] determined the extremal spectral radius for minimally $3$-connected graphs. We obtain some structural properties of minimally $k$-(edge)-connected graphs. Furthermore, we solve the above Max-Min problem for $k\geq3$, which implies that every minimally $k$-(edge)-connected graph with maximal spectral radius also has maximal number of edges. Finally, a general problem is posed for further research.

Foucaud et al. recently introduced and initiated the study of a new graph-theoretic concept in the area of network monitoring. Given a graph $G=(V(G), E(G))$, a set $M \subseteq V(G)$ is a distance-edge-monitoring set if for every edge $e \in E(G)$, there is a vertex $x \in M$ and a vertex $y \in V(G)$ such that the edge $e$ belongs to all shortest paths between $x$ and $y$. The smallest size of such a set in $G$ is denoted by $\operatorname{dem}(G)$. Denoted by $G-e$ (resp. $G \backslash u$) the subgraph of $G$ obtained by removing the edge $e$ from $G$ (resp. a vertex $u$ together with all its incident edges from $G$). In this paper, we first show that $\operatorname{dem}(G-e)- \operatorname{dem}(G)\leq 2$ for any graph $G$ and edge $e \in E(G)$. Moreover, the bound is sharp. Next, we construct two graphs $G$ and $H$ to show that $\operatorname{dem}(G)-\operatorname{dem}(G\setminus u)$ and $\operatorname{dem}(H\setminus v)-\operatorname{dem}(H)$ can be arbitrarily large, where $u \in V(G)$ and $v \in V(H)$. We also study the relation between $\operatorname{dem}(H)$ and $\operatorname{dem}(G)$, where $H$ is a subgraph of $G$. In the end, we give an algorithm to judge whether the distance-edge monitoring set still remain in the resulting graph when any edge of the graph $G$ is deleted.

Let $G$ be a connected graph and $Q(G)$ be the signless Laplacian of $G$. The principal ratio $γ(G)$ of $Q(G)$ is the ratio of the maximum and minimum entries of the Perron vector of $Q(G)$. In this paper, we consider the maximum principal ratio $γ(G)$ among all connected graphs of order $n$, and show that for sufficiently large $n$ the extremal graph is a kite graph obtained by identifying an end vertex of a path to any vertex of a complete graph.
Some multivariable Rado numbers
The Rado number of an equation is a Ramsey-theoretic quantity associated to the equation. Let $\mathcal{E}$ be a linear equation. Denote by $\operatorname{R}_r(\mathcal{E})$ the minimal integer, if it exists, such that any $r$-coloring of $[1,\operatorname{R}_r(\mathcal{E})]$ must admit a monochromatic solution to $\mathcal{E}$. In this paper, we give upper and lower bounds for the Rado number of $\sum_{i=1}^{m-2}x_i+kx_{m-1}=\ell x_{m}$, and some exact values are also given. Furthermore, we derive some results for the cases that $\ell=m=4$ and $m=5, \ell=k+i \ (1\leq i\leq 5)$. As a generalization, the \emph{$r$-color Rado numbers} for linear equations $\mathcal{E}_1,\mathcal{E}_2,...,\mathcal{E}_r$ is defined as the minimal integer, if it exists, such that any $r$-coloring of $[1,\operatorname{R}_r(\mathcal{E}_1,\mathcal{E}_2,...,\mathcal{E}_r)]$ must admit a monochromatic solution to some $\mathcal{E}_i$, where $1\leq i\leq r$. A lower bound for $\operatorname{R}_r(\mathcal{E}_1,\mathcal{E}_2,...,\mathcal{E}_r)$ and the exact values of $\operatorname{R}_2(x+y=z,\ell x=y)=5k$ and $\operatorname{R}_2(x+y=z, x+a=y)$ was given by Lovász Local Lemma.

Let $G$ be a connected graph, the principal ratio of $G$ is the ratio of the maximum and minimum entries of its Perron eigenvector. In 2007, Cioab\v a and Gregory conjectured that among all connected graphs on $n$ vertices, the kite graph attains the maximum principal ratio. In 2018, Tait and Tobin confirmed the conjecture for sufficientlty large $n$. In this article, we show the conjecture is true for all $n\geq 5000$.

In this paper, we characterize the extremal digraphs with the maximal or minimal $α$-spectral radius among some digraph classes such as rose digraphs, generalized theta digraphs and tri-ring digraphs with given size $m$. These digraph classes are denoted by $\mathcal{R}_{m}^k$, $\widetilde{\boldsymbolΘ}_k(m)$ and $\INF(m)$ respectively. The main results about spectral extremal digraph by Guo and Liu in \cite{MR2954483} and Li and Wang in \cite{MR3777498} are generalized to $α$-spectral graph theory. As a by-product of our main results, an open problem in \cite{MR3777498} is answered.
Furthermore, we determine the digraphs with the first three minimal $α$-spectral radius among all strongly connected digraphs. Meanwhile, we determine the unique digraph with the fourth minimal $α$-spectral radius among all strongly connected digraphs for $0\le α\le \frac{1}{2}$.

In this paper, we propose a generalized opinion dynamics model (GODM), which can dynamically compute each person's expressed opinion, to solve the internal opinion maximization problem for social trust networks. In the model, we propose a new, reasonable and interpretable confidence index, which is determined by both person's social status and the evaluation around him. By using the theory of diagonally dominant, we obtain the optimal analytic solution of the Nash equilibrium with maximum overall opinion. We design a novel algorithm to maximize the overall with given budget by modifying the internal opinions of people in the social trust network, and prove its optimality both from the algorithm itself and the traditional optimization algorithm-ADMM algorithms with $l_1$-regulations. A series of experiments are conducted, and the experimental results show that our method is superior to the state-of-the-art in four datasets. The average benefit has promoted $67.5\%$, $83.2\%$, $31.5\%$, and $33.7\%$ on four datasets, respectively.

Let $G$ be a simple connected graph, and $D(G)$ be the distance matrix of $G$. Suppose that $D_{\max}(G)$ and $λ_1(G)$ are the maximum row sum and the spectral radius of $D(G)$, respectively. In this paper, we give a lower bound for $D_{\max}(G)-λ_1(G)$, and characterize the extremal graphs attaining the bound. As a corollary, we solve a conjecture posed by Liu, Shu and Xue.

In this paper, we focus on the index ( largest eigenvalue) of the adjacency matrix of connected signed graphs. We give some general results on the index when the corresponding signed graph is perturbed. As applications, we determine the first five largest index among all unbalanced bicyclic graphs on n >= 36 vertices together with the corresponding extremal signed graphs whose index attain these values.

A rose graph is a graph consisting of cycles that all meet in one vertex. We show that except for two specific examples, these rose graphs are determined by the Laplacian spectrum, thus proving a conjecture posed by Lui and Huang [F.J. Liu and Q.X. Huang, Laplacian spectral characterization of 3-rose graphs, Linear Algebra Appl. 439 (2013), 2914--2920]. We also show that if two rose graphs have a so-called universal Laplacian matrix with the same spectrum, then they must be isomorphic. In memory of Horst Sachs (1927-2016), we show the specific case of the latter result for the adjacency matrix by using Sachs' theorem and a new result on the number of matchings in the disjoint union of paths.
