Degenerating orbits of the Longest Edge Bisection process
We study the Longest Edge Bisection (LEB) process as a dynamical system on the projective shape space of simplices. A long-standing conjecture going back to Adler and Rivara-Levin and motivated by finite-element mesh refinement, often taken as a standing assumption, is that this procedure is non-degenerate and, in fact, in a certain way periodic. We prove: \begin{itemize} \item There are 3-dimensional simplices such that the longest edge-bisection algorithm degenerates. \item There is an open set of 4-dimensional simplices on which the longest edge-bisection algorithm degenerates. \item If parametrizing the space of $d$-dimensional simplices by independent standard Gaussian vectors, then as $d$ increases, a random simplex degenerates asymptotically almost surely. \end{itemize} This is realized through exhibiting hyperbolic behaviour of the LEB process. We also exhibit elliptic behaviour that is nonperiodic.
On the stability, complexity, and distribution of similarity classes of the longest edge bisection process for triangles
The Longest Edge Bisection of a triangle is performed by joining the midpoint of its longest edge to the opposite vertex. Applying this procedure iteratively produces an infinite family of triangles. Surprisingly, a classical result of Stynes (1980) shows that for any initial triangle, this infinite family falls into finitely many similarity classes.
While the set of classes is finite, it turns out that a far smaller, stable subset of ``fat'' triangles effectively dominates the final mesh structure. We prove the following asymptotic area distribution result: for every initial triangle, the portion of area occupied by terminal quadruples tends to one, with the convergence occurring at an exponential rate. In fact, we provide the precise distribution of triangles in every step. We introduce the {\bf bisection graph} and use spectral methods to establish this result.
Given this dominance, we provide a complete characterization of triangles possessing a single terminal quadruple, while conversely exhibiting a sequence of triangles with an unbounded number of terminal quadruples. Furthermore, we reveal several fundamental geometric properties of the points of a terminal quadruple, laying the groundwork for studying the geometric distribution of the entire orbit. Our analysis leverages the hyperbolic geometry framework of Perdomo and Plaza (2014) and refines their techniques.
On flag-no-square $4$-manifolds
Which $4$-manifolds admit a flag-no-square (fns) triangulation? We introduce the "star-connected-sum" operation on such triangulations, which preserves the fns property, from which we derive new constructions of fns $4$-manifolds. In particular, we show the following: (i) there exist non-aspherical fns $4$-manifolds, answering in the negative a question by Przytycki and Swiatkowski; (ii) for every large enough integer $k$ there exists a fns $4$-manifold $M_{2k}$ of Euler characteristic $2k$, and further, (iii) $M_{2k}$ admits a super-exponential number (in $k$) of fns triangulations - at least $2^{Ω(k \log k)}$ and at most $2^{O(k^{1.5} \log k)}$.
On an infinite family of generalized PBIBDs
We consider a generalization of the notion of partially balanced incomplete block designs (PBIBDs), by relaxing the requirement that the underlying association scheme be commutative. An infinite family of such generalizations is constructed, one for each prime power $q$ congruent to $1$ modulo $4$.

We consider the realization space of the $d$-dimensional cube, and show that any two realizations are connected by a finite sequence of projective transformations and normal transformations. We use this fact to define an analog of the connected sum construction for cubical $d$-polytopes, and apply this construction to certain cubical $d$-polytopes to conclude that the rays spanned by $f$-vectors of cubical $d$-polytopes are dense in Adin's cone. The connectivity result on cubes extends to any product of simplices, and further, it shows the respective realization spaces are contractible.
On the cone of $f$-vectors of cubical polytopes
What is the minimal closed cone containing all $f$-vectors of cubical $d$-polytopes? We construct cubical polytopes showing that this cone, expressed in the cubical $g$-vector coordinates, contains the nonnegative $g$-orthant, thus verifying one direction of the Cubical Generalized Lower Bound Conjecture of Babson, Billera and Chan. Our polytopes also show that a natural cubical analogue of the simplicial Generalized Lower Bound Theorem does not hold.
On algebraic fusions of association schemes
We give a complete description of the irreducible representations of algebraic fusions of association schemes, in terms of the irreducible representations of a Schur cover of the corresponding group of algebraic automorphisms.
