On decomposition thresholds for odd-length cycles and other tripartite graphs
An (edge) decomposition of a graph $G$ is a set of subgraphs of $G$ whose edge sets partition the edge set of $G$. Here we show, for each odd $\ell \geq 5$, that any graph $G$ of sufficiently large order $n$ with minimum degree at least $(\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2\ell-4}+o(1))n$ has a decomposition into $\ell$-cycles if and only if $\ell$ divides $|E(G)|$ and each vertex of $G$ has even degree. This threshold cannot be improved beyond $\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2\ell-2}$. It was previously shown that the thresholds approach $\frac{1}{2}$ as $\ell$ becomes large, but our thresholds do so significantly more rapidly. Our methods can be applied to tripartite graphs more generally and we also obtain some bounds for decomposition thresholds of other tripartite graphs.
Hamilton decompositions of line graphs
It is proved that if a graph is regular of even degree and contains a Hamilton cycle, or regular of odd degree and contains a Hamiltonian $3$-factor, then its line graph is Hamilton decomposable. This result partially extends Kotzig's result that a $3$-regular graph is Hamiltonian if and only if its line graph is Hamilton decomposable, and proves the conjecture of Bermond that the line graph of a Hamilton decomposable graph is Hamilton decomposable.
On determining when small embeddings of partial Steiner triple systems exist

A partial Steiner triple system of order $u$ is a pair $(U,\mathcal{A})$ where $U$ is a set of $u$ elements and $\mathcal{A}$ is a set of triples of elements of $U$ such that any two elements of $U$ occur together in at most one triple. If each pair of elements occur together in exactly one triple it is a Steiner triple system. An embedding of a partial Steiner triple system $(U,\mathcal{A})$ is a (complete) Steiner triple system $(V,\mathcal{B})$ such that $U \subseteq V$ and $\mathcal{A} \subseteq \mathcal{B}$. For a given partial Steiner triple system of order $u$ it is known that an embedding of order $v \geq 2u+1$ exists whenever $v$ satisfies the obvious necessary conditions. Determining whether "small" embeddings of order $v < 2u+1$ exist is a more difficult task. Here we extend a result of Colbourn on the $\mathsf{NP}$-completeness of these problems. We also exhibit a family of counterexamples to a conjecture concerning when small embeddings exist.
On Hamilton Decompositions of Line Graphs of Non-Hamiltonian Graphs and Graphs without Separating Transitions
In contrast with Kotzig's result that the line graph of a $3$-regular graph $X$ is Hamilton decomposable if and only if $X$ is Hamiltonian, we show that for each integer $k\geq 4$ there exists a simple non-Hamiltonian $k$-regular graph whose line graph has a Hamilton decomposition. We also answer a question of Jackson by showing that for each integer $k\geq 3$ there exists a simple connected $k$-regular graph with no separating transitions whose line graph has no Hamilton decomposition.

We prove that a complete multipartite graph $K$ with $n>1$ vertices and $m$ edges can be decomposed into edge-disjoint Hamilton paths if and only if $\frac m{n-1}$ is an integer and the maximum degree of $K$ is at most $\frac {2m}{n-1}$.
Steiner triple systems with high chromatic index

It is conjectured that every Steiner triple system of order $v \neq 7$ has chromatic index at most $(v+3)/2$ when $v \equiv 3 \pmod{6}$ and at most $(v+5)/2$ when $v \equiv 1 \pmod{6}$. Herein, we construct a Steiner triple system of order $v$ with chromatic index at least $(v+3)/2$ for each integer $v \equiv 3 \pmod{6}$ such that $v \geq 15$, with four possible exceptions. We further show that the maximum number of disjoint parallel classes in the systems constructed is sublinear in $v$. Finally, we establish for each order $v \equiv 15 \pmod{18}$ that there are at least $v^{v^2(1/6+o(1))}$ non-isomorphic Steiner triple systems with chromatic index at least $(v+3)/2$ and that some of these systems are cyclic.
On Hamilton Decompositions of Infinite Circulant Graphs

The natural infinite analogue of a (finite) Hamilton cycle is a two-way-infinite Hamilton path (connected spanning 2-valent subgraph). Although it is known that every connected $2k$-valent infinite circulant graph has a two-way-infinite Hamilton path, there exist many such graphs that do not have a decomposition into $k$ edge-disjoint two-way-infinite Hamilton paths. This contrasts with the finite case where it is conjectured that every $2k$-valent connected circulant graph has a decomposition into $k$ edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles. We settle the problem of decomposing $2k$-valent infinite circulant graphs into $k$ edge-disjoint two-way-infinite Hamilton paths for $k=2$, in many cases when $k=3$, and in many other cases including where the connection set is $\pm\{1,2,\ldots,k\}$ or $\pm\{1,2,\ldots,k-1,k+1\}$.

We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a decomposition of a complete multigraph into edge-disjoint cycles of specified lengths, or into edge-disjoint cycles of specified lengths and a perfect matching.

In 'An asymptotic result on compressed sensing matrices', a new construction for compressed sensing matrices using combinatorial design theory was introduced. In this paper, we use deterministic and probabilistic methods to analyse the performance of matrices obtained from this construction. We provide new theoretical results and detailed simulations. These simulations indicate that the construction is competitive with Gaussian random matrices, and that recovery is tolerant to noise. A new recovery algorithm tailored to the construction is also given.

Various results on factorisations of complete graphs into circulant graphs and on 2-factorisations of these circulant graphs are proved. As a consequence, a number of new results on the Oberwolfach Problem are obtained. For example, a complete solution to the Oberwolfach Problem is given for every 2-regular graph of order 2p where p = 5 (mod 8) is prime.

For any rational number $h$ and all sufficiently large $n$ we give a deterministic construction for an $n\times \lfloor hn\rfloor$ compressed sensing matrix with $(\ell_1,t)$-recoverability where $t=O(\sqrt{n})$. Our method uses pairwise balanced designs and complex Hadamard matrices in the construction of $ε$-equiangular frames, which we introduce as a generalisation of equiangular tight frames. The method is general and produces good compressed sensing matrices from any appropriately chosen pairwise balanced design. The $(\ell_1,t)$-recoverability performance is specified as a simple function of the parameters of the design. To obtain our asymptotic existence result we prove new results on the existence of pairwise balanced designs in which the numbers of blocks of each size are specified.

We show that the complete graph on $n$ vertices can be decomposed into $t$ cycles of specified lengths $m_1,\ldots,m_t$ if and only if $n$ is odd, $3\leq m_i\leq n$ for $i=1,\ldots,t$, and $m_1+\cdots+m_t=\binom n2$. We also show that the complete graph on $n$ vertices can be decomposed into a perfect matching and $t$ cycles of specified lengths $m_1,\ldots,m_t$ if and only if $n$ is even, $3\leq m_i\leq n$ for $i=1,\ldots,t$, and $m_1+\ldots+m_t=\binom n2-\frac n2$.
