A new proof of an Eğecioğlu--Remmel inverse Kostka matrix problem via a Garsia--Milne involution involving Sym and NSym
Eğecioğlu and Remmel provide a combinatorial proof (using special rim hook tableaux) that the product of the Kostka matrix $K$ and its inverse $K^{-1}$ equals the identity matrix $I$. They then pose the problem of proving the reverse identity $K^{-1}K =I$ combinatorially. Sagan and Lee prove a special case of this identity using overlapping special rim hook tableaux. Loehr and Mendes provide a full proof using bijective matrix algebra that relies on the Eğecioğlu--Remmel map. In this article, we solve the problem in full generality independent of the Eğecioğlu--Remmel bijection. To do this, we start by proving NSym versions of both Kostka matrix identities using sign-reversing involutions involving the tunnel hook coverings recently introduced by the first and third authors. Then we modify our sign-reversing involutions to reduce to Sym. Finally, we show that our bijection is different than the Loehr and Mendes result by constructing an injective map between special rim tableaux and the symmetric group $S_n.$
Multivariable Lucas Polynomials and Lucanomials
Lucas polynomials are polynomials in $s_1$ and $s_2$ defined recursively by $\{0\}=0$, $\{1\}=1$, and $\{m\}=s_1\{m-1\}+s_2\{m-2\}$ for $m \geq 2$. We generalize Lucas polynomials from 2-variable polynomials to multivariable polynomials. This is done by first defining $r$-Lucas polynomials $\{m\}_r$ in the variables $s_1$, $s_r$, and $s_{2r}$. We show that the binomial analogues of the $r$-Lucas polynomials are polynomial and give a combinatorial interpretation for them. We then extend the generalization of Lucas polynomials to an arbitrarily large set of variables. Recursively defined generating functions are given for these multivariable Lucas polynomials. We conclude by giving additional applications and insights.

We describe a combinatorial formula for the coefficients when the dual immaculate quasisymmetric functions are decomposed into Young quasisymmetric Schur functions. We prove this using an analogue of Schensted insertion. Using this result, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a dual immaculate quasisymmetric function to be symmetric. Moreover, we show that the product of a Schur function and a dual immaculate quasisymmetric function expands positively in the Young quasisymmetric Schur basis. We also discuss the decomposition of the Young noncommutative Schur functions into the immaculate functions. Finally, we provide a Remmel-Whitney-style rule to generate the coefficients of the decomposition of the dual immaculates into the Young quasisymmetric Schurs algorithmically and an analogous rule for the decomposition of the dual bases.

Garsia-Haiman modules are quotient rings in variables X_n={x_1, x_2, ..., x_n} and Y_n=y_1, y_2, ..., y_n} that generalize the quotient ring C[X_n]/I, where I is the ideal generated by the elementary symmetric polynomials e_j(X_n) for 1 <= j <= n. A bitableaux basis for the Garsia-Haiman modules of hollow type is constructed. Applications of this basis to representation theory and other related polynomial spaces are considered.
