A local limit theorem for the edge counts of random induced subgraphs of a random graph
Consider a `dense' Erdős--Rényi random graph model $G=G_{n,M}$ with $n$ vertices and $M$ edges, where we assume the edge density $M/\binom{n}{2}$ is bounded away from 0 and 1. Fix $k=k(n)$ with $k/n$ bounded away from 0 and~1, and let $S$ be a random subset of size $k$ of the vertices of $G$. We show that with probability $1-\exp(-n^{Ω(1)})$, $G$ satisfies both a central limit theorem and a local limit theorem for the empirical distribution of the edge count $e(G[S])$ of the subgraph of $G$ induced by $S$, where the distribution is over uniform random choices of the $k$-set $S$.
A framework for the generalised Erdős-Rothschild problem and a resolution of the dichromatic triangle case
The Erdős-Rothschild problem from 1974 asks for the maximum number of $s$-edge colourings in an $n$-vertex graph which avoid a monochromatic copy of $K_k$, given positive integers $n,s,k$. In this paper, we systematically study the generalisation of this problem to a given forbidden family of colourings of $K_k$. This problem typically exhibits a dichotomy whereby for some values of $s$, the extremal graph is the `trivial' one, namely the Turán graph on $k-1$ parts, with no copies of $K_k$; while for others, this graph is no longer extremal and determining the extremal graph becomes much harder.
We generalise a framework developed for the monochromatic Erdős-Rothschild problem to the general setting and work in this framework to obtain our main results, which concern two specific forbidden families: triangles with exactly two colours, and improperly coloured cliques. We essentially solve these problems fully for all integers $s \geq 2$ and large $n$. In both cases we obtain an infinite family of structures which are extremal for some $s$, which are the first results of this kind.
A consequence of our results is that for every non-monochromatic colour pattern, every extremal graph is complete partite. Our work extends work of Hoppen, Lefmann and Schmidt and of Benevides, Hoppen and Sampaio.
A note on interval colourings of graphs

A graph is said to be interval colourable if it admits a proper edge-colouring using palette $\mathbb{N}$ in which the set of colours incident to each vertex is an interval. The interval colouring thickness of a graph $G$ is the minimum $k$ such that $G$ can be edge-decomposed into $k$ interval colourable graphs. We show that $θ(n)$, the maximum interval colouring thickness of an $n$-vertex graph, satisfies $θ(n) =Ω(\log(n)/\log\log(n))$ and $θ(n)\leq n^{5/6+o(1)}$, which improves on the trivial lower bound and an upper bound of the first author and Zheng. As a corollary, we answer a question of Asratian, Casselgren, and Petrosyan and disprove a conjecture of Borowiecka-Olszewska, Drgas-Burchardt, Javier-Nol, and Zuazua. We also confirm a conjecture of the first author that any interval colouring of an $n$-vertex planar graph uses at most $3n/2-2$ colours.
Reconstructing a point set from a random subset of its pairwise distances
Let $V$ be a set of $n$ points on the real line. Suppose that each pairwise distance is known independently with probability $p$. How much of $V$ can be reconstructed up to isometry?
We prove that $p = (\log n)/n$ is a sharp threshold for reconstructing all of $V$ which improves a result of Benjamini and Tzalik. This follows from a hitting time result for the random process where the pairwise distances are revealed one-by-one uniformly at random. We also show that $1/n$ is a weak threshold for reconstructing a linear proportion of $V$.

For an oriented graph $D$ and a set $X\subseteq V(D)$, the inversion of $X$ in $D$ is the digraph obtained by reversing the orientations of the edges of $D$ with both endpoints in $X$. The inversion number of $D$, $\textrm{inv}(D)$, is the minimum number of inversions which can be applied in turn to $D$ to produce an acyclic digraph. Answering a recent question of Bang-Jensen, da Silva, and Havet we show that, for each $k\in\mathbb{N}$ and tournament $T$, the problem of deciding whether $\textrm{inv}(T)\leq k$ is solvable in time $O_k(|V(T)|^2)$, which is tight for all $k$. In particular, the problem is fixed-parameter tractable when parameterised by $k$. On the other hand, we build on their work to prove their conjecture that for $k\geq 1$ the problem of deciding whether a general oriented graph $D$ has $\textrm{inv}(D)\leq k$ is NP-complete. We also construct oriented graphs with inversion number equal to twice their cycle transversal number, confirming another conjecture of Bang-Jensen, da Silva, and Havet, and we provide a counterexample to their conjecture concerning the inversion number of so-called 'dijoin' digraphs while proving that it holds in certain cases. Finally, we asymptotically solve the natural extremal question in this setting, improving on previous bounds of Belkhechine, Bouaziz, Boudabbous, and Pouzet to show that the maximum inversion number of an $n$-vertex tournament is $(1+o(1))n$.

We show that the edges of any graph $G$ containing two edge-disjoint spanning trees can be blue/red coloured so that the blue and red graphs are connected and the blue and red degrees at each vertex differ by at most four. This improves a result of Hörsch. We discuss variations of the question for digraphs, infinite graphs and a computational question, and resolve two further questions of Hörsch in the negative.
Induced subgraphs of induced subgraphs of large chromatic number
We prove that, for every graph $F$ with at least one edge, there is a constant $c_F$ such that there are graphs of arbitrarily large chromatic number and the same clique number as $F$ in which every $F$-free induced subgraph has chromatic number at most $c_F$. This generalises recent theorems of Briański, Davies and Walczak, and Carbonero, Hompe, Moore and Spirkl. Our results imply that for every $r\geq 3$ the class of $K_r$-free graphs has a very strong vertex Ramsey-type property, giving a vast generalisation of a result of Folkman from 1970. We also prove related results for tournaments, hypergraphs and infinite families of graphs, and show an analogous statement for graphs where clique number is replaced by odd girth.

For $G=G_{n, 1/2}$, the Erdős--Renyi random graph, let $X_n$ be the random variable representing the number of distinct partitions of $V(G)$ into sets $A_1, \ldots, A_q$ so that the degree of each vertex in $G[A_i]$ is divisible by $q$ for all $i\in[q]$. We prove that if $q\geq 3$ is odd then $X_n\xrightarrow{d}{\mathrm{Po}(1/q!)}$, and if $q \geq 4$ is even then $X_n\xrightarrow{d}{\mathrm{Po}(2^q/q!)}$. More generally, we show that the distribution is still asymptotically Poisson when we require all degrees in $G[A_i]$ to be congruent to $x_i$ modulo $q$ for each $i\in[q]$, where the residues $x_i$ may be chosen freely. For $q=2$, the distribution is not asymptotically Poisson, but it can be determined explicitly.

Let $\mathcal{F}$ be an antichain of finite subsets of $\mathbb{N}$. How quickly can the quantities $|\mathcal{F}\cap 2^{[n]}|$ grow as $n\to\infty$? We show that for any sequence $(f_n)_{n\ge n_0}$ of positive integers satisfying $\sum_{n=n_0}^\infty f_n/2^n \le 1/4$, $f_{n_0}=1$ and $f_n\le f_{n+1}\le 2f_n$, there exists an infinite antichain $\mathcal{F}$ of finite subsets of $\mathbb{N}$ such that $|\mathcal{F}\cap 2^{[n]}| \geq f_n$ for all $n\ge n_0$. It follows that for any $\varepsilon>0$ there exists an antichain $\mathcal{F}\subseteq 2^\mathbb{N}$ such that $$\liminf_{n \to \infty} |\mathcal{F}\cap 2^{[n]}| \cdot \left(\frac{2^n}{n\log^{1+\varepsilon} n}\right)^{-1} > 0.$$ This resolves a problem of Sudakov, Tomon and Wagner in a strong form, and is essentially tight.
Ramsey properties of randomly perturbed dense graphs
We investigate Ramsey properties of a random graph model in which random edges are added to a given dense graph. Specifically, we determine lower and upper bounds on the function $p=p(n)$ that ensures that for any dense graph $G_n$ a.a.s. every 2-colouring of the edges of $G_n\cup G(n,p)$ admits a monochromatic copy of the complete graph $K_r$. These bounds are asymptotically sharp for the cases when $r\geq 5$ is odd and almost sharp when $r\geq 4$ is even. Our proofs utilise recent results on the threshold for asymmetric Ramsey properties in $G(n,p)$ and the method of dependent random choice.
