The Gray graph is pseudo 2-factor isomorphic
A graph is pseudo 2-factor isomorphic if all of its 2-factors have the same parity of number of cycles. Abreu et al. [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. B. 98 (2008) 432--442] conjectured that $K_{3,3}$, the Heawood graph and the Pappus graph are the only essentially 4-edge-connected pseudo 2-factor isomorphic cubic bipartite graphs. This conjecture was disproved by Goedgebeur [Discr. Appl. Math. 193 (2015) 57--60] who constructed a counterexample $\mathcal{G}$ (of girth 6) on 30 vertices. Using a computer search, he also showed that this is the only counterexample up to at least 40 vertices and that there are no counterexamples of girth greater than 6 up to at least 48 vertices. In this manuscript, we show that the Gray graph -- which has 54 vertices and girth 8 -- is also a counterexample to the pseudo 2-factor isomorphic graph conjecture. Next to the graph $\mathcal{G}$, this is the only other known counterexample. Using a computer search, we show that there are no smaller counterexamples of girth 8 and show that there are no other counterexamples up to at least 42 vertices of any girth. Moreover, we also verified that there are no further counterexamples among the known censuses of symmetrical graphs. Recall that a graph is 2-factor Hamiltonian if all of its 2-factors are Hamiltonian cycles. As a by-product of the computer searches performed for this paper, we have verified that the $2$-factor Hamiltonian conjecture of Funk et al. [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. B. 87(1) (2003) 138--144], which is still open, holds for cubic bipartite graphs of girth at least 8 up to 52 vertices, and up to 42 vertices for any girth.

The Perfect Matching Hamiltonian property in Prism and Crossed Prism graphs
A graph $G$ has the \emph{Perfect Matching Hamiltonian property} (or for short, $G$ is $PMH$) if, for each one of its perfect matchings, there is another perfect matching of $G$ such that the union of the two perfect matchings yields a Hamiltonian cycle of $G$. In this note, we show that \emph{Prism graphs} $\cP_n$ are not $PMH$, except for the $Cube\ graph$, and indicate for which values of $n$ the \emph{Crossed Prism graphs} $\cCP_n$ are $PMH$.

On 2-bisections and monochromatic edges in claw-free cubic multigraphs
A $k$-bisection of a multigraph $G$ is a partition of its vertex set into two parts of the same cardinality such that every component of each part has at most $k$ vertices. Cui and Liu shown that every claw-free cubic multigraph contains a $2$-bisection, while Eom and Ozeki constructed specific $2$-bisections with bounded number of monochromatic edges. Their bound is the best possible for claw-free cubic simple graphs. In this note, we extend the latter result to the larger family of claw-free cubic multigraphs
The Pairing-Hamiltonian property in graph prisms
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $G$ be a graph of even order, and consider $K_G$ as the complete graph on the same vertex set as $G$. A perfect matching of $K_G$ is called a pairing of $G$. If for every pairing $M$ of $G$ it is possible to find a perfect matching $N$ of $G$ such that $M \cup N$ is a Hamiltonian cycle of $K_G$, then $G$ is said to have the Pairing-Hamiltonian property, or PH-property, for short. In 2007, Fink [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B, 97] proved that for every $d\geq 2$, the $d$-dimensional hypercube $\mathcal{Q}_d$ has the PH-property, thus proving a conjecture posed by Kreweras in 1996. In this paper we extend Fink's result by proving that given a graph $G$ having the PH-property, the prism graph $\mathcal{P}(G)$ of $G$ has the PH-property as well. Moreover, if $G$ is a connected graph, we show that there exists a positive integer $k_0$ such that the $k^{\textrm{th}}$-prism of a graph $\mathcal{P}^k(G)$ has the PH-property for all $k \ge k_0$.
A characterization of graphs with small palette index
Published in Symmetry, 2023, 15, 154 • View PublicationBIB
Given an edge-coloring of a graph $G$, we associate to every vertex $v$ of $G$ the set of colors appearing on the edges incident with $v$. The palette index of $G$ is defined as the minimum number of such distinct sets, taken over all possible edge-colorings of $G$. A graph with a small palette index admits an edge-coloring which can be locally considered to be almost symmetric, since few different sets of colors appear around its vertices. Graphs with palette index $1$ are $r$-regular graphs admitting an $r$-edge-coloring, while regular graphs with palette index $2$ do not exist. Here, we characterize all graphs with palette index either $2$ or $3$ in terms of the existence of suitable decompositions in regular subgraphs. As a corollary, we obtain a complete characterization of regular graphs with palette index $3$.

On a graph isomorphic to $NO^{+}(6,2)$
Let $Q^{+}(2n-1,2)$ be a non-degenerate hyperbolic quadric of $PG(2n-1,2)$. Let $NO^{+}(2n,2)$ be the tangent graph, whose vertices are the points of $PG(2n-1,2) \setminus Q^{+}(2n-1,2)$ and two vertices $u,~v$ are adjacent if the line joining $u$ and $v$ is tangent to $Q^{+}(2n-1,2)$. Then $NO^{+}(2n-1,q)$ is a strongly regular graph. Let $\mathcal{V}^{4}_{2}$ be the \textit{Veronese surface} in $PG(5,q)$, and $\mathcal{M}^{3}_{4}$ its \textit{secant variety}. When $q=2$, $|Q^{+}(5,2)|=|\mathcal{M}^{3}_{4}|=35$. In this paper we define the graph $N\mathcal{M}^{3}_{4}$, with 28 vertices in $PG(5,2)\setminus\mathcal{M}^{3}_{4}$ and with the analogue incidence rule of the tangent graph. Such graph is isomorphic to $NO^{+}(6,2)$.

The Automorphism Group of $NU(3,q^2)$
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $H(n, q^2)$ be a non-degenerate Hermitian variety of $PG(n,q^2)$, $n \geq 2$. Let $NU(n+1,q^2)$ be the graph whose vertices are the points of $PG(n,q^2) \setminus H(n,q^2)$ and two vertices $u,~v$ are adjacent if the line joining $u$ and $v$ is tangent to $H(n, q^2 )$. Then $NU(n + 1, q^2)$ is a strongly regular graph. In this paper we show that the automorphism group of the graph $NU(3,q^2)$ is isomorphic either to $PΓU(3,q)$, the automorphism group of the projective unitary group $PGU(3,q)$, or to $S_{3} \wr S_{4}$, according as $q \neq 2$, or $q=2$.

Betwixt and between 2-factor Hamiltonian and Perfect-Matching-Hamiltonian graphs
Published in Electron. J. Comb. 30, No. 2, Research Paper P2.5, 20 pgs. (2023) • View PublicationBIB
A Hamiltonian graph is 2-factor Hamiltonian (2FH) if each of its 2-factors is a Hamiltonian cycle. A similar, but weaker, property is the Perfect-Matching-Hamiltonian property (PMH-property): a graph admitting a perfect matching is said to have this property if each one of its perfect matchings (1-factors) can be extended to a Hamiltonian cycle. It was shown that the star product operation between two bipartite 2FH-graphs is necessary and sufficient for a bipartite graph admitting a 3-edge-cut to be 2FH. The same cannot be said when dealing with the PMH-property, and in this work we discuss how one can use star products to obtain graphs (which are not necessarily bipartite, regular and 2FH) admitting the PMH-property with the help of malleable vertices, which we introduce here. We show that the presence of a malleable vertex in a graph implies that the graph has the PMH-property, but does not necessarily imply that it is 2FH. It was also conjectured that if a graph is a bipartite cubic 2FH-graph, then it can only be obtained from the complete bipartite graph $K_{3,3}$ and the Heawood graph by using star products. Here, we show that a cubic graph (not necessarily bipartite) is 2FH if and only if all of its vertices are malleable. We also prove that the above conjecture is equivalent to saying that, apart from the Heawood graph, every bipartite cyclically 4-edge-connected cubic graph with girth at least 6 having the PMH-property admits a perfect matching which can be extended to a Hamiltonian cycle in exactly one way. Finally, we also give two necessary and sufficient conditions for a graph admitting a 2-edge-cut to be: (i) 2FH, and (ii) PMH.
Perfect matchings, Hamiltonian cycles and edge-colourings in a class of cubic graphs

A graph $G$ has the Perfect-Matching-Hamiltonian property (PMH-property) if for each one of its perfect matchings, there is another perfect matching of $G$ such that the union of the two perfect matchings yields a Hamiltonian cycle of $G$. The study of graphs that have the PMH-property, initiated in the 1970s by Las Vergnas and Häggkvist, combines three well-studied properties of graphs, namely matchings, Hamiltonicity and edge-colourings. In this work, we study these concepts for cubic graphs in an attempt to characterise those cubic graphs for which every perfect matching corresponds to one of the colours of a proper 3-edge-colouring of the graph. We discuss that this is equivalent to saying that such graphs are even-2-factorable (E2F), that is, all 2-factors of the graph contain only even cycles. The case for bipartite cubic graphs is trivial, since if $G$ is bipartite then it is E2F. Thus, we restrict our attention to non-bipartite cubic graphs. A sufficient, but not necessary, condition for a cubic graph to be E2F is that it has the PMH-property. The aim of this work is to introduce an infinite family of E2F non-bipartite cubic graphs on two parameters, which we coin papillon graphs, and determine the values of the respective parameters for which these graphs have the PMH-property or are just E2F. We also show that no two papillon graphs with different parameters are isomorphic.
Strongly regular graphs from integral point sets in even dimensional affine spaces over finite fields
In the $m$-dimensional affine space $AG(m,q)$ over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ of odd order $q$, the analogous of the Euclidean distance gives rise to a graph $\mathfrak{G}_{m,q}$ where vertices are the points of $AG(m,q)$ and two vertices are adjacent if their (formal) squared Euclidean distance is a square in $\mathbb{F}_q$ (including the zero). In 2009, Kurz and Meyer made the conjecture that if $m$ is even then $\mathfrak{G}_{m,q}$ is a strongly regular graph. In this paper we prove their conjecture.
Even Orientations and Pfaffian graphs
We give a characterization of Pfaffian graphs in terms of even orientations, extending the characterization of near bipartite non--pfaffian graphs by Fischer and Little \cite{FL}. Our graph theoretical characterization is equivalent to the one proved by Little in \cite{L73} (cf. \cite{LR}) using linear algebra arguments.
