Two Layer 3D Floor Planning
Published • View PublicationBIB
A 3D floor plan is a non-overlapping arrangement of blocks within a large box. Floor planning is a central notion in chip-design, and with recent advances in 3D integrated circuits, understanding 3D floor plans has become important. In this paper, we study so called mosaic 3D floor plans where the interior blocks partition the host box under a topological equivalence. We give representations which give an upper bound on the number of general 3D floor plans, and further consider the number of two layer mosaic floorplans. We prove that the number of two layer mosaic floor plans is $n^{(1+o(1))n/3}$. This contrasts with previous work which has studied `corner free' mosaic floor plans, where the number is just exponential. The upper bound is by giving a representation, while the lower bound is a randomized construction.
Positive graphs

We study "positive" graphs that have a nonnegative homomorphism number into every edge-weighted graph (where the edgeweights may be negative). We conjecture that all positive graphs can be obtained by taking two copies of an arbitrary simple graph and gluing them together along an independent set of nodes. We prove the conjecture for various classes of graphs including all trees. We prove a number of properties of positive graphs, including the fact that they have a homomorphic image which has at least half the original number of nodes but in which every edge has an even number of pre-images. The results, combined with a computer program, imply that the conjecture is true for all graphs up to 9 nodes.

Quantum tunneling on graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
We explore the tunneling behavior of a quantum particle on a finite graph, in the presence of an asymptotically large potential. Surprisingly the behavior is governed by the local symmetry of the graph around the wells.

Borel oracles. An analytical approach to constant-time algorithms
Published • View PublicationBIB
Nguyen and Onak constructed the first constant-time algorithm for the approximation of the size of the maximum matching in bounded degree graphs. The Borel oracle machinery is a tool that can be used to convert some statements in Borel graph theory to theorems in the field of constant-time algorithms. In this paper we illustrate the power of this tool to prove the existence of the above mentioned constant-time approximation algorithm.

Sofic equivalence relations
Published • View PublicationBIB
We introduce the notion of sofic measurable equivalence relations. Using them we prove that Connes' Embedding Conjecture as well as the Measurable Determinant Conjecture of Lück, Sauer and Wegner hold for treeable equivalence relations.

An analogue of the Szemeredi Regularity Lemma for bounded degree graphs
We show that a sufficiently large graph of bounded degree can be decomposed into quasi-homogeneous pieces. The result can be viewed as a "finitarization" of the classical Farrell-Varadarajan Ergodic Decomposition Theorem.
