Diagonal F-threshold of binomial edge ideals
We compute the diagonal $F$-threshold of binomial edge ideals associated to graphs in the case of cycles, cycles with whiskers, bipartite graphs, and block graphs. Moreover, we provide general bounds for any graph.
Switching rook polynomial of collections of cells
We explore the novel connection between rook placements on collections of cells, also known as pruned chessboards, and the algebraic properties of ideals generated by $2$-minors. We design an algorithm to compute the switching rook polynomial of a collection of cells and show that it coincides with the $h$-polynomial of the associated coordinate ring for all collections up to rank 10 and polyominoes up to rank 12. Motivated by this evidence, we conjecture that the correspondence holds in general, and we prove it for certain convex collections of cells by algebraic tools.
Switching Rook Polynomials of Collections of Cells: Palindromicity and Domino-Stability
The rook polynomial is a generating function that enumerates the number of ways to place rooks, with no two in the same row or column, on a collection of cells regarded as a pruned chessboard. In combinatorial commutative algebra, special attention is devoted to its variant, the switching rook polynomial, which is conjectured to coincide with the $h$-polynomial of the $K$-algebra associated with the given collection of cells. In this context, palindromicity plays a crucial role, as it reflects the algebraic property of Gorensteinness. In this paper, we introduce a new combinatorial property, called domino-stability, and we prove that the switching rook polynomial of a collection of cells $\mathcal{P}$ is palindromic if and only if $\mathcal{P}$ is domino-stable. Building upon this result, we derive new insights into the characterization of Gorenstein $K$-algebras arising from polyominoes or, more generally, from collections of cells.

Several algebraic properties of a binomial edge ideal $J_G$ can be interpreted in terms of combinatorial properties of its associated graph $G$. In particular, the so-called cut sets of a graph $G$, special sets of vertices that disconnect $G$ in a minimal way, play an important role since they are in bijection with the minimal prime ideals of $J_G$. In this paper we establish the first graph-theoretical characterization of binomial edge ideals $J_G$ satisfying Serre's condition $(S_2)$ by proving that this is equivalent to having $G$ accessible, which means that $J_G$ is unmixed and the cut sets of $G$ form an accessible set system. The proof relies on the combinatorial structure of the Stanley-Reisner simplicial complex of a multigraded generic initial ideal of $J_G$, whose facets can be described in terms of cut sets. Another key step in the proof consists in proving the equivalence between accessibility and strong accessibility for the collection of cut sets of $G$ with $J_G$ unmixed. This result, interesting on its own, provides the first relevant class of set systems for which the previous two notions are equivalent.
Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals of small graphs

A combinatorial property that characterizes Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals has long been elusive. A recent conjecture ties the Cohen-Macaulayness of a binomial edge ideal $J_G$ to special disconnecting sets of vertices of its underlying graph $G$, called \textit{cut sets}. More precisely, the conjecture states that $J_G$ is Cohen-Macaulay if and only if $J_G$ is unmixed and the collection of the cut sets of $G$ is an accessible set system. In this paper we prove the conjecture theoretically for all graphs with up to $12$ vertices and develop an algorithm that allows to computationally check the conjecture for all graphs with up to $15$ vertices and all blocks with whiskers where the block has at most $11$ vertices. This significantly extends previous computational results.

Let $G$ be a simple graph on $n$ vertices and let $J_{G,m}$ be the generalized binomial edge ideal associated to $G$ in the polynomial ring $K[x_{ij}, 1\le i \le m, 1\le j \le n]$. We classify the Cohen-Macaulay generalized binomial edge ideals. Moreover we study the unmixedness and classify the bipartite and power cycle unmixed ones.

In this paper we provide a full combinatorial characterization of sequentially Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals of closed graphs. In addition, we show that a binomial edge ideal of a closed graph is approximately Cohen-Macaulay if and only if it is almost Cohen-Macaulay.

We present a conjecture about the reduced Hilbert series of the coordinate ring of a simple polyomino in terms of particular arrangements of non-attacking rooks that can be placed on the polyomino. By using a computational approach, we prove that the above conjecture holds for all simple polyominoes up to rank $11$. In addition, we prove that the conjecture holds true for the class of parallelogram polyominoes, by looking at those as simple planar distributive lattices. Finally, we give a combinatorial interpretation of the Gorensteinnes of parallelogram polyominoes.

We describe the simplicial complex $Δ$ such that the initial ideal of $J_G$ is the Stanley-Reisner ideal of $Δ$. By $Δ$ we show that if $J_G$ is $(S_2)$ then $G$ is accessible. We also characterize all accessible blocks with whiskers of cycle rank 3 and we define a new infinite class of accessible blocks with whiskers for any cycle rank. Finally, by using a computational approach, we show that the graphs with at most 12 vertices whose binomial edge ideal is Cohen-Macaulay are all and only the accessible ones.

Let P be a simple thin polyomino, roughly speaking a polyomino that has no holes and does not contain a square tetromino as a subpolyomino. In this paper, we determine the reduced Hilbert series $h(t)/(1-t)^d$ of K[P] by proving that $h(t)$ is the rook polynomial of P. As an application, we characterize the Gorenstein simple thin polyominoes.

It is known that the polyomino ideal of simple polyominoes is prime. In this paper, we focus on multiply connected polyominoes, namely polyominoes with holes, and observe that the non-existence of a certain sequence of inner intervals of the polyomino, called zig-zag walk, gives a necessary condition for the primality of the polyomino ideal. Moreover, by computational approach, we prove that for all polyominoes with rank less than or equal to 14 the above condition is also sufficient. Lastly, we present an infinite class of prime polyomino ideals.
2-dimensional vertex decomposable circulant graphs
Let $G$ be the circulant graph $C_n(S)$ with $S\subseteq\{ 1,\ldots,\left \lfloor\frac{n}{2}\right \rfloor\}$ and let $Δ$ be its independence complex. We describe the well-covered circulant graphs with 2-dimensional $Δ$ and construct an infinite family of vertex-decomposable circulant graphs within this family.

Let $G$ be the circulant graph $C_n(S)$ with $S\subseteq\{ 1,\ldots,\left \lfloor\frac{n}{2}\right \rfloor\}$. We study the reduced Euler characteristic $\tildeχ$ of the independence complex $Δ(G)$ for $n=p^k$ with $p$ prime and for $n=2p^k$ with $p$ odd prime, proving that in both cases $\tildeχ$ does not vanish. We also give an example of circulant graph whose independence complex has $\tildeχ$ equals to $0$, giving a negative answer to R. Hoshino.

Some algebraic invariants of edge ideal of circulant graphs
Let $G$ be the circulant graph $C_n(S)$ with $S\subseteq\{ 1,\ldots,\left \lfloor\frac{n}{2}\right \rfloor\}$ and let $I(G)$ be its edge ideal in the ring $K[x_0,\ldots,x_{n-1}]$. Under the hypothesis that $n$ is prime we : 1) compute the regularity index of $R/I(G)$; 2) compute the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity when $R/I(G)$ is Cohen-Macaulay; 3) prove that the circulant graphs with $S=\{1,\ldots,s\}$ are sequentially $S_2$ . We end characterizing the Cohen-Macaulay circulant graphs of Krull dimension $2$ and computing their Cohen-Macaulay type and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity.
