An algebraic study of ideals of weak graph homomorphisms
Let $G$ and $H$ be finite simple graphs and assume that either both are undirected or both are directed. We introduce and study the ideal of weak graph homomorphisms $I_{G\to H}$. We characterize all graphs $G$ and $H$ for which every (equivalently, some) power of $I_{G\to H}$ has a linear resolution. Moreover, unmixedness, Cohen-Macaulayness, projective dimension and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of these ideals are studied.

$\textbf{k}$-neighborhood ideals of graphs
In this paper, we introduce and investigate the $\textbf{k}$-neighborhood ideal of a graph, a natural generalization of the closed neighborhood ideal. Let $G$ be a simple graph on the vertex set $[n]$, and let $S=K[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring over a field $K$. For a vector $\textbf{k}=(k_1,\ldots,k_n)\in \mathbb{N}^n$ satisfying $1\leq k_i\leq \textrm{deg}_G(i)+1$ for all $i$, the $\textbf{k}$-neighborhood ideal of $G$ is defined as the squarefree monomial ideal $$\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)=\sum_{i=1}^n\, (\textbf{x}_W:\, W\subseteq N_G[i],\, |W|=k_i)$$ of $S$, where $\textbf{x}_W=\prod_{i\in W} x_i$. We study homological invariants and properties of $\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)$ focusing on its Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity, projective dimension and Cohen-Macaulayness. Special attention is devoted to the case where the vector ${\textbf{k}}$ is the degree-vector of the graph, i.e., $k_i=\textrm{deg}_G(i)$ for all vertices $i$, and to the case where $\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)$ coincides with the edge ideal of a graph. In these settings, we provide combinatorial characterizations and bounds for the regularity and projective dimension of $\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)$ for several classes of graphs, and further investigate the Cohen-Macaulay property of these ideals.
Private neighbors, perfect codes and their relation with the $\vt$-number of closed neighborhood ideals
In this work, we investigate the connections between dominating sets, private neighbors, and perfect codes in graphs, and their relationships with commutative algebra. In particular, we estimate the $\vt$-number of closed neighborhood ideals in terms of minimal dominating sets and private neighbors. We show how the $\vt$-number is related to other graph invariants, such as the cover number, domination number, and matching number. Moreover, we explore the relation with the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity, proving that the $\vt$-number is a lower bound for the regularity of bipartite and well-covered graphs. Finally, drawing from the relation between efficient dominating set and perfect codes, we use the redundancy of Hamming codes to present lower and upper bounds for the $\vt$-number of some special family of graphs.
Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of toric varieties with at most one singular point
We establish upper bounds for the Castelnuovo--Mumford regularity of the coordinate ring of a simplicial projective toric variety with at most one singular point. In the smooth case, our results recover the bound of Herzog and Hibi [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 131 (2003), 2641--2647], and therefore the Eisenbud--Goto bound. Furthermore, when the variety has exactly one singular point and dimension at least $3$, we prove that its regularity also satisfies the Eisenbud--Goto bound. The proof combines combinatorial and homological methods: we study the asymptotic behavior of the sumsets associated to the toric variety and relate it to Castelnuovo--Mumford regularity via a Hochster-like formula.
Squarefree powers of closed neighborhood ideals
In this article, we characterize all trees whose highest non-vanishing squarefree power of the closed neighborhood ideal is componentwise linear. In addition, we investigate the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the $ν$-th squarefree power of the closed neighborhood ideal of trees and show that this number can be arbitrarily larger than the degree of the ideal. Finally, we give a formula for the regularity of $ν$-th squarefree power of the closed neighborhood ideal of caterpillar graphs.

Lattice points arising from regularity and $\mathrm{v}$-number of Graphs: Whisker and Cameron-Walker
Let $G$ be a simple graph on $n$ vertices and $I(G)\subseteq R$ be its edge ideal. In this paper, we initiate the study of determining lattice points in $\mathbb{N}^2$ that appear as a pair $(\mathrm{reg}(R/I(G)), \mathrm{v}(I(G)))$, where $G$ ranges over all connected graphs on $n$ vertices, and we denote this set by $\mathcal{RV}(n)$. Here `$\mathrm{reg}$' denotes the (Castelnuovo-Mumford) regularity and `$\mathrm{v}$' denotes the $\mathrm{v}$-number. We establish general bounds for $\mathcal{RV}(n)$ by identifying two sets $A(n)$ and $B(n)$ satisfying $A(n)\subseteq \mathcal{RV}(n)\subseteq B(n)$. Furthermore, we explicitly determine the subsets of $\mathcal{RV}(n)$ consisting of all possible pairs $(\mathrm{reg}(R/I(G)), \mathrm{v}(I(G)))$ arising from whisker graphs and Cameron-Walker graphs on $n$ vertices. Finally, we propose a conjecture on the subset of $\mathcal{RV}(n)$ arising from connected chordal graphs.

On homological invariants and Cohen-Macaulayness of closed neighborhood ideals
Let $G$ be a finite simple graph and $NI(G)$ be the closed neighborhood ideal of $G$ in the polynomial ring $S=K[V(G)]$. In this paper, we study the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity, projective dimension and Cohen-Macaulayness of this ideal. For any chordal graph $G$, we show that $\text{reg}(S/NI(G))=τ(G)$, where $τ(G)$ denotes the vertex cover number of $G$. This generalizes the corresponding result for trees shown in [3], as in trees $τ(G)$ is the same as the matching number of $G$. When $G$ is a bipartite graph or a very well-covered graph, we notice that $\text{reg}(S/NI(G))\geq τ(G)$ and that this inequality can be strict in general. Moreover, we describe the projective dimension of $S/NI(G)$ for some families of graphs. Finally, we give a characterization of very well-covered graphs $G$ for which the ring $S/NI(G)$ is Cohen-Macaulay.

Generalized binomial edge ideals of whisker graphs via an extension of generalized corona products
In this paper, we initiate a systematic study of generalized binomial edge ideals of whisker graphs by working within a substantially broader class of graphs. We extend the notion of generalized corona products, and through this enlarged framework, investigate fundamental algebraic invariants such as depth, (Castelnuovo-Mumford) regularity, and the Cohen-Macaulay property. In particular, we establish a sharp lower bound on the depth of generalized binomial edge ideals for our extended class, and further obtain explicit depth formula for a broad subclass of this family, which in turn recovers the depth formula for whisker graphs. We also establish sharp upper bounds for the regularity, and in the case of binomial edge ideals of whisker graphs over gap-free graphs, determine the exact value of the regularity. Finally, for our extended class, we provide a combinatorial classification of all Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals, which in turn yields a new construction of Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals.

Supports of Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials
The Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials are the maximal degree components of Grothendieck polynomials. The support of each Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomial is conjectured to be M-convex, i.e. the set of integer points of a generalized permutahedron (Mészáros and St. Dizier, 2020). This conjecture is known to hold in certain special cases but remains open in general. We define new families of permutations whose Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials we show to have M-convex support. Specifically, we investigate which permutations have Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials whose supports are the set of integer points in a schubitope.
Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of generalized binomial edge ideals of graphs
In this paper, we mainly study the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the generalized binomial edge ideals of graphs. We show that this number can be any integer number from $2$ to $n-1$ where $n$ is the number of vertices in the underlying graph. We are able to show this, after giving some tight lower and upper bounds for the regularity of generalized binomial edge ideals of the join product of graphs. In particular, we characterize all generalized binomial edge ideals with the regularity equal to~$2$ as well as extremal Gorenstein ideals. For this purpose, we give a new combinatorial characterization for the class of $P_4$-free graphs.
Hilbert Coefficients and Regularity of Binomial Edge Ideals
Let $G$ be a simple graph on $n$ vertices, and let $J_G$ denotes the corresponding binomial edge ideal in $S=\mathbb{K}[x_1,\ldots,x_n,y_1,\ldots,y_n]$, where $\mathbb{K}$ is a field. We show that if a vertex satisfies a certain degree condition, then some Hilbert coefficients remain unchanged upon its removal, thereby providing a reduction technique for computing Hilbert coefficients. As an application, for any $i\geq 0$ and a pair $(r,s)$ with $r\geq 2, s\in \mathbb{Z}$, we show that there always exists a graph $G$ such that $\mathrm{reg}(S/J_G)=r$ and $e_i(S/J_G)=s$, where $\mathrm{reg}(S/J_G)$ and $e_i(R/J_G)$ denote the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity and the $i$-th Hilbert coefficient of $S/J_G$, respectively. In particular, this demonstrates that there is no inherent relationship between the regularity and the Hilbert coefficients for the class of binomial edge ideals.

On a regularity-conjecture of generalized binomial edge ideals

In this paper, we prove the upper bound conjecture proposed by Saeedi Madani \& Kiani on the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of generalized binomial edge ideals. We give a combinatorial upper bound of regularity for generalized binomial edge ideals, which is better than the bound claimed in that conjecture. Also, we show that the bound is tight by providing an infinite class of graphs.

Algebraic study on rooted products of graphs and multi-clique corona graphs
In this paper, we study rooted products of graphs from the perspective of combinatorial commutative algebra. For edge ideals, we introduce the 2-Cohen-Macaulayness with respect to a vertex and use it to investigate when edge ideals of rooted products of graphs are Cohen-Macaulay. Moreover, we completely determine when attaching a graph on at most six vertices to a given graph as rooted products, yields a Cohen-Macaulay edge ideal. Also, we define mulit-clique corona graphs as a generalization of clique-corona graphs and multi-whisker graphs. We prove that multi-clique corona graphs are vertex decomposable and hence sequentially Cohen-Macaulay. Also, we give formulas for the projective dimension and the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity.
Castelnuovo-Mumford Regularity and Combinatorial Invariants of Trees
This work establishes combinatorial bounds on the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of edge ideals for trees and their multi-whiskered variants. For a tree \( T \), we give bounds for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of \( I(T) \) in terms of the order, diameter, and number of pendant vertices. Furthermore, we present an upper bound for multi-whiskered trees \( T_{\mathbf{a}} \), demonstrating that the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of \( I(T_{\mathbf{a}}) \) is bounded by the same invariants of the underlying tree \( T \). A principal consequence of this work is the derivation of corresponding inequalities for two key combinatorial invariants of \( T \), namely the induced matching number \( \operatorname{im}(T) \) and the independence number \( α(T) \).

Admissible set and squarefree-power-like function with applications to squarefree symbolic powers
We introduce the abstract notion of squarefree-power-like functions, which unify the sequences of squarefree ordinary and symbolic powers of squarefree monomial ideals. By employing the Tor-vanishing criteria for mixed sums of ideals, we establish sharp lower bounds for their Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity in terms of what we call the admissible set of the associated hypergraph. As an application, we derive the first general combinatorial lower bound for the regularity of squarefree symbolic powers of monomial ideals. In the setting of edge ideals, by exploiting the special combinatorial structures of block graphs and Cohen-Macaulay chordal graphs, we show that this bound turns into an exact formula for all squarefree symbolic powers of block graphs, as well as for the second squarefree symbolic powers of edge ideals of Cohen-Macaulay chordal graphs.
Boolean Rank via Monomial Ideals
Boolean matrix factorization (BMF) has many applications in data mining, bioinformatics, and network analysis. The goal of BMF is to decompose a given binary matrix as the Boolean product of two smaller binary matrices, revealing underlying structure in the data. When interpreting a binary matrix as the adjacency matrix of a bipartite graph, BMF is equivalent to the NP-hard biclique cover problem. By approaching this problem through the lens of commutative algebra, we utilize algebraic structures and techniques--particularly the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of combinatorially defined ideals--to establish new lower bounds for Boolean matrix rank.

Comparing the $\mathrm{v}$-number and $h$-polynomials of edge ideals
In this paper, we compare the $\mathrm{v}$-numbers and the degree of the $h$-polynomials associated with edge ideals of connected graphs. We prove that the $\mathrm{v}$-number can be arbitrarily larger or smaller than the degree of the $h$-polynomial for the edge ideal of a connected graph. We also establish that for any pair of positive integers $(v,d)$ with $v \leq d$, there exists a connected graph $H(v,d)$ with the $\mathrm{v}$-number equal to $v$ and the degree of $h$-polynomial equal to $d$. Additionally, we show that the sum of the $\mathrm{v}$-number and the degree of the $h$-polynomial is bounded above by $n$, the number of vertices of $G$, and we classify all graphs for which this sum is exactly $n$. Finally, we show that all thirteen possible inequalities among the three invariants, the $\mathrm{v}$-number, the degree of the $h$-polynomial, and the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity, can occur in the case of edge ideals of connected graphs. Many of these examples rely on a minimal example of a graph whose $\mathrm{v}$-number is more than the degree of its $h$-polynomial. Using a computer search, we show that there are exactly two such graphs on 11 vertices and 25 edges, and no smaller example on fewer vertices, or 11 vertices and less than 25 edges.
Admissible matchings and the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of square-free powers
Let $I$ be any square-free monomial ideal, and $\mathcal{H}_I$ denote the hypergraph associated with $I$. Refining the concept of $k$-admissible matching of a graph defined by Erey and Hibi, we introduce the notion of generalized $k$-admissible matching for any hypergraph. Using this, we give a sharp lower bound on the (Castelnuovo-Mumford) regularity of $I^{[k]}$, where $I^{[k]}$ denotes the $k^{\text{th}}$ square-free power of $I$. In the special case when $I$ is equigenerated in degree $d$, this lower bound can be described using a combinatorial invariant $\mathrm{aim}(\mathcal{H}_I,k)$, called the $k$-admissible matching number of $\mathcal{H}_I$. Specifically, we prove that $\mathrm{reg}(I^{[k]})\ge (d-1)\mathrm{aim}(\mathcal{H}_I,k)+k$, whenever $I^{[k]}$ is non-zero. Even for the edge ideal $I(G)$ of a graph $G$, it turns out that $\mathrm{aim}(G,k)+k$ is the first general lower bound for the regularity of $I(G)^{[k]}$. In fact, when $G$ is a forest, $\mathrm{aim}(G,k)$ coincides with the $k$-admissible matching number introduced by Erey and Hibi. Next, we show that if $G$ is a block graph, then $\mathrm{reg}(I(G)^{[k]})= \mathrm{aim}(G,k)+k$, and this result can be seen as a generalization of the corresponding regularity formula for forests. Additionally, for a Cohen-Macaulay chordal graph $G$, we prove that $\mathrm{reg}(I(G)^{[2]})= \mathrm{aim}(G,2)+2$. Finally, we propose a conjecture on the regularity of square-free powers of edge ideals of chordal graphs.

On binomial edge ideals of corona of graphs
For a simple graph $G$, let $J_G$ denote the corresponding binomial edge ideal. This article considers the binomial edge ideal of the corona product of two connected graphs $G$ and $H$. The corona product of $G$ and $H$, denoted by $G\circ H$, is a construction where each vertex of $G$ is connected (via the coning-off) to an entire copy of $H$. This is a direct generalization of a cone construction. Previous studies have shown that for $J_{G \circ H}$ to be Cohen-Macaulay, both $G$ and $H$ must be complete graphs. However, there are no general formulae for the dimension, depth, or Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $J_{G\circ H}$ for all graphs $G$ and $H$. In this article, we provide a general formula for the dimension, depth and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the binomial edge ideals of certain corona and corona-type (somewhat a generalization of corona) products of special interests. Additionally, we study the Cohen-Macaulayness, unmixedness and related properties of binomial edge ideals corresponding to above class of graphs. We have also added a short note on the reduction of the Bolognini-Macchia-Strazzanti Conjecture to all graphs with a diameter of $3$.
