On degree powers in the degenerate Turán problem
Given a graph $G$ with degree sequence $d_{1},\ldots,d_{n}$ and a positive real number $p$, let $e_{p}(G)=\sum_{i=1}^{n} d_{i}^{p}$. For a fixed family of graphs $\mathcal F$, let $ex_{p}(n, \mathcal F)$ denote the maximum value of $e_{p}(G)$ over all $\mathcal F$-free graphs $G$ on $n$ vertices. In 2000, Caro and Yuster introduced the following Turán-type problem: For a positive integer $p$ and a fixed graph $F$, determine $ex_{p}(n, F)$, and characterize the extremal graphs $G$ on $n$ vertices that attain $ex_p(n, F)$. Recently, Gao, Liu, Ma and Pikhurko proved that $ex_{p}(n, \mathcal F)=(τ(\mathcal F)-1+o(1))n^p$ for real $p>\frac{1}{1-α}$, where $\mathcal F$ is a degenerate family of graphs with classical Turán number $ex(n, \mathcal F)=O(n^{1+α})$ for some $α\in[0,1)$, and $τ(\mathcal F)$ is the minimum size of an independent vertex cover over all bipartite graphs $F\in\mathcal F$. Based on their method, we obtain a stability result for $ex_{p}(n, \mathcal F)$, and prove that all extremal graphs must contain the complete bipartite graph $K_{τ(\mathcal F)-1,n-τ(\mathcal F)+1}$ when $n$ is sufficiently large. Our results can be used to deduce all previously known results about $ex_{p}(n, F)$ when $F$ is a bipartite graph and $n$ is sufficiently large. We also obtain several new exact results for $ex_{p}(n, F)$, namely, when $F$ is an even cycle, a complete bipartite graph, a discrete hypercube, a caterpillar forest, and a spider forest.
List rainbow connection number of graphs
An edge-coloured path is rainbow if all of its edges have distinct colours. Let $G$ be a connected graph. The rainbow connection number of $G$, denoted by $rc(G)$, is the minimum number of colours in an edge-colouring of $G$ such that, any two vertices are connected by a rainbow path. The strong rainbow connection number of $G$, denoted by $src(G)$, is the minimum number of colours in an edge-colouring of $G$ such that, any two vertices are connected by a rainbow geodesic (i.e., a path of shortest length). These two notions of connectivity of graphs were introduced by Chartrand, Johns, McKeon and Zhang in 2008. In this paper, we introduce the list rainbow connection number $rc^\ell(G)$, and the list strong rainbow connection number $src^\ell(G)$. These two parameters are the versions of $rc(G)$ and $src(G)$ that involve list edge-colourings. Among our results, we will determine the list rainbow connection number and list strong rainbow connection number of some specific graphs. We will also characterise all pairs of positive integers $a$ and $b$ such that, there exists a connected graph $G$ with $src(G)=a$ and $src^\ell(G)=b$, and similarly for the pair $rc^\ell$ and $src^\ell$. Finally, we propose the question of whether or not we have $rc(G)=rc^\ell(G)$, for all connected graphs $G$.
Rainbow cycles through specified vertices
An edge-coloured cycle is rainbow if the edges have distinct colours. Let $G$ be a graph such that any $k$ vertices lie in a cycle of $G$. The $k$-rainbow cycle index of $G$, denoted by $crx_k(G)$, is the minimum number of colours required to colour the edges of $G$ such that, for every set $S$ of $k$ vertices in $G$, there exists a rainbow cycle in $G$ containing $S$. In this paper, we will first prove some results about the parameter $crx_k(G)$ for general graphs $G$. One of the results is a classification of all graphs $G$ such that $crx_k(G)=e(G)$, for $k=1,2$. We will also determine $crx_k(G)$ for some specific graphs $G$, including wheels, complete graphs, complete bipartite and multipartite graphs, and discrete cubes.
Monochromatic $k$-connection of graphs
An edge-coloured path is monochromatic if all of its edges have the same colour. For a $k$-connected graph $G$, the monochromatic $k$-connection number of $G$, denoted by $mc_k(G)$, is the maximum number of colours in an edge-colouring of $G$ such that, any two vertices are connected by $k$ internally vertex-disjoint monochromatic paths. In this paper, we shall study the parameter $mc_k(G)$. We obtain bounds for $mc_k(G)$, for general graphs $G$. We also compute $mc_k(G)$ exactly when $k$ is small, and $G$ is a graph on $n$ vertices, with a spanning $k$-connected subgraph having the minimum possible number of edges, namely $\lceil\frac{kn}{2}\rceil$. We prove a similar result when $G$ is a bipartite graph.
Multicoloured Ramsey numbers of the path of length four
Let $P_t$ denote the path on $t$ vertices. The $r$-coloured Ramsey number of $P_t$, denoted by $R_r(P_t)$, is the minimum integer $n$ such that whenever the complete graph on $n$ vertices is given an $r$-edge-colouring, there exists a monochromatic copy of $P_t$. In this note, we determine $R_r(P_5)$, which is approximately $3r$.
Cops and Robber on Cartesian products and some classes of hypergraphs
The game of Cops and Robber is a pursuit-evasion game which is usually played on a connected graph. In the game, a set of cops and a robber move around the vertices of a graph along edges, where the cops aim to capture the robber, while the robber aims to avoid capture. Much research about this game have been done since the early 1980s. The game has a natural generalisation to being played on connected hypergraphs, where the cops and the robber may now move along hyperedges. In this paper, we shall provide a characterisation of all hypergraphs where one cop is sufficient to capture the robber. The cop-number of a connected hypergraph is the minimum number of cops required in order to capture the robber. We shall prove some results about the cop-number of certain hypergraphs, including hypertrees and Cartesian products of hypergraphs.
The size of graphs with restricted rainbow $2$-connection number
Let $k$ be a positive integer, and $G$ be a $k$-connected graph. An edge-coloured path is \emph{rainbow} if all of its edges have distinct colours. The \emph{rainbow $k$-connection number} of $G$, denoted by $rc_k(G)$, is the minimum number of colours in an edge-colouring of $G$ such that, any two vertices are connected by $k$ internally vertex-disjoint rainbow paths. The function $rc_k(G)$ was introduced by Chartrand, Johns, McKeon and Zhang in 2009, and has since attracted significant interest. Let $t_k(n,r)$ denote the minimum number of edges in a $k$-connected graph $G$ on $n$ vertices with $rc_k(G)\le r$. Let $s_k(n,r)$ denote the maximum number of edges in a $k$-connected graph $G$ on $n$ vertices with $rc_k(G)\ge r$. The functions $t_1(n,r)$ and $s_1(n,r)$ have previously been studied by various authors. In this paper, we study the functions $t_2(n,r)$ and $s_2(n,r)$. We determine bounds for $t_2(n,r)$ which imply that $t_2(n,2)=(1+o(1))n\log_2 n$, and $t_2(n,r)$ is linear in $n$ for $r\ge 3$. We also provide some remarks about the function $s_2(n,r)$.

Given a positive integer $p$ and a graph $G$ with degree sequence $d_1,\dots,d_n$, we define $e_p(G)=\sum_{i=1}^n d_i^p$. Caro and Yuster introduced a Turán-type problem for $e_p(G)$: Given a positive integer $p$ and a graph $H$, determine the function $ex_p(n,H)$, which is the maximum value of $e_p(G)$ taken over all graphs $G$ on $n$ vertices that do not contain $H$ as a subgraph. Clearly, $ex_1(n,H)=2ex(n,H)$, where $ex(n,H)$ denotes the classical Turán number. Caro and Yuster determined the function $ex_p(n, P_\ell)$ for sufficiently large $n$, where $p\geq 2$ and $P_\ell$ denotes the path on $\ell$ vertices. In this paper, we generalise this result and determine $ex_p(n,F)$ for sufficiently large $n$, where $p\geq 2$ and $F$ is a linear forest. We also determine $ex_p(n,S)$, where $S$ is a star forest; and $ex_p(n,B)$, where $B$ is a broom graph with diameter at most six.

An edge-coloured path is \emph{rainbow} if its edges have distinct colours. An edge-coloured connected graph is said to be \emph{rainbow connected} if any two vertices are connected by a rainbow path, and \emph{strongly rainbow connected} if any two vertices are connected by a rainbow geodesic. The (\emph{strong}) \emph{rainbow connection number} of a connected graph is the minimum number of colours needed to make the graph (strongly) rainbow connected. These two graph parameters were introduced by Chartrand, Johns, McKeon and Zhang in 2008. As an extension, Krivelevich and Yuster proposed the concept of \emph{rainbow vertex-connection}. The topic of rainbow connection in graphs drew much attention and various similar parameters were introduced, mostly dealing with undirected graphs.
Dorbec, Schiermeyer, Sidorowicz and Sopena extended the concept of the rainbow connection to digraphs. In this paper, we consider the (strong) rainbow vertex-connection number of digraphs. Results on the (strong) rainbow vertex-connection number of biorientations of graphs, cycle digraphs, circulant digraphs and tournaments are presented.

An edge-coloured path is rainbow if its edges have distinct colours. For a connected graph $G$, the rainbow connection number (resp. strong rainbow connection number) of $G$ is the minimum number of colours required to colour the edges of $G$ so that, any two vertices of $G$ are connected by a rainbow path (resp. rainbow geodesic). These two graph parameters were introduced by Chartrand, Johns, McKeon and Zhang in 2008. Krivelevich and Yuster generalised this concept to the vertex-coloured setting. Similarly, Liu, Mestre and Sousa introduced the version which involves total-colourings.
Dorbec, Schiermeyer, Sidorowicz and Sopena extended the concept of the rainbow connection to digraphs. In this paper, we consider the (strong) total rainbow connection number of digraphs. On various (strong) rainbow connection numbers of graphs
An edge-coloured path is \emph{rainbow} if all the edges have distinct colours. For a connected graph $G$, the \emph{rainbow connection number} $rc(G)$ is the minimum number of colours in an edge-colouring of $G$ such that, any two vertices are connected by a rainbow path. Similarly, the \emph{strong rainbow connection number} $src(G)$ is the minimum number of colours in an edge-colouring of $G$ such that, any two vertices are connected by a rainbow geodesic (i.e., a path of shortest length). These two concepts of connectivity in graphs were introduced by Chartrand et al.~in 2008. Subsequently, vertex-coloured versions of both parameters, $rvc(G)$ and $srvc(G)$, and a total-coloured version of the rainbow connection number, $trc(G)$, were introduced. In this paper we introduce the strong total rainbow connection number $strc(G)$, which is the version of the strong rainbow connection number using total-colourings. Among our results, we will determine the strong total rainbow connection numbers of some special graphs. We will also compare the six parameters, by considering how close and how far apart they can be from one another. In particular, we will characterise all pairs of positive integers $a$ and $b$ such that, there exists a graph $G$ with $trc(G)=a$ and $strc(G)=b$, and similarly for the functions $rvc$ and $srvc$.

We consider a system of qubits coupled via nearest-neighbour interaction governed by the Heisenberg Hamiltonian. We further suppose that all coupling constants are equal to $1$. We are interested in determining which graphs allow for a transfer of quantum state with fidelity equal to $1$. To answer this question, it is enough to consider the action of the Laplacian matrix of the graph in a vector space of suitable dimension.
Our main result is that if the underlying graph is a tree with more than two vertices, then perfect state transfer does not happen. We also explore related questions, such as what happens in bipartite graphs and graphs with an odd number of spanning trees. Finally, we consider the model based on the $XY$-Hamiltonian, whose action is equivalent to the action of the adjacency matrix of the graph. In this case, we conjecture that perfect state transfer does not happen in trees with more than three vertices.

Let $G$ be a graph whose edges are coloured with $k$ colours, and $\mathcal H=(H_1,\dots , H_k)$ be a $k$-tuple of graphs. A monochromatic $\mathcal H$-decomposition of $G$ is a partition of the edge set of $G$ such that each part is either a single edge or forms a monochromatic copy of $H_i$ in colour $i$, for some $1\le i\le k$. Let $φ_{k}(n,\mathcal H)$ be the smallest number $φ$, such that, for every order-$n$ graph and every $k$-edge-colouring, there is a monochromatic $\mathcal H$-decomposition with at most $φ$ elements. Extending the previous results of Liu and Sousa ["Monochromatic $K_r$-decompositions of graphs", Journal of Graph Theory}, 76:89--100, 2014], we solve this problem when each graph in $\mathcal H$ is a clique and $n\ge n_0(\mathcal H)$ is sufficiently large.

We consider the following question of Bollobas: given an r-colouring of the edges of the complete graph on n vertices, how large a k-connected subgraph can we find using only one colour? We solve this problem asymptotically when r-1 is a prime power, and exactly for 2- and 3-colourings.

Suppose the edges of the complete graph on n vertices are coloured using r colours; how large a k-connected subgraph are we guaranteed to find, which uses only at most s of the colours? This question is due to Bollobas, and the case s = 1 was considered in a preivous paper by the same authors. Here we consider the case s >= 2, and mention some open problems.
