Any power series with unit constant term can be factored into an infinite product of the form $\prod_{n\geq 1} (1-q^n)^{-a_n}$. We give direct formulas for the exponents $a_n$ in terms of the coefficients of the power series, and vice versa, as sums over partitions. As examples, we prove identities for certain partition enumeration functions. Finally, we note $q$-analogues of our enumeration formulas.
An Overpartition Companion of Andrews and Keith's 2-colored $q$-series Identity
Andrews and Keith recently produced a general Schmidt type partition theorem using a novel interpretation of Stockhofe's bijection, which they used to find new $q$-series identities. This includes an identity for a trivariate 2-colored partition generating function. In this paper, their Schmidt type theorem is further generalized akin to how Franklin classically extended Glaisher's theorem. As a consequence, we obtain a companion to Andrews and Keith's 2-colored identity for overpartitions. These identities appear to be special cases of a much more general result.
A combinatorial proof of a partition perimeter inequality
The partition perimeter is a statistic defined to be one less than the sum of the number of parts and the largest part. Recently, Amdeberhan, Andrews, and Ballantine proved the following analog of Glaisher's theorem: for all $m \geq 2$ and $n \geq 1$, there are at least as many partitions with perimeter $n$ and parts $\not \equiv 0 \pmod{m}$ as partitions with perimeter $n$ and parts repeating fewer than $m$ times. In this work, we provide a combinatorial proof of their theorem by relating the combinatorics of the partition perimeter to that of compositions. Using this technique, we also show that a composition theorem of Huang implies a refinement of another perimeter theorem of Fu and Tang.
Bijective Approaches for Schmidt-Type Theorems
We provide new Schmidt-type results through an investigation of two bijections, which are results involving partitions with parts counted only at given indices. Mork's bijection, the first of these, was originally given as a proof of Schmidt's theorem. We show that a version of Sylvester's bijection is equivalent to Mork's bijection applied to 2-modular diagrams, which implies refinements of existing results and new generating function identities. We then develop a bijection based on an idea appearing in a recent paper of Andrews and Keith, that places partitions counted at the indices $r$, $t+r$, $2t+r, \dots$ in correspondence with $t$-colored partitions. This leads to a substantial generalization of an identity of Bridges and Uncu, and complements a similar investigation of Li and Yee.
