The threshold for powers of tight Hamilton cycles in random hypergraphs
We investigate the occurrence of powers of tight Hamilton cycles in random hypergraphs. For every $r\ge 3$ and $k\ge 1$, we show that there exists a constant $C > 0$ such that if $p=p(n) \ge Cn^{-1/\binom{k+r-2}{r-1}}$ then asymptotically almost surely the random hypergraph $H^{(r)}(n,p)$ contains the $k$th power of a tight Hamilton cycle. This improves on a result of Parczyk and Person, who proved the same result under the assumption $p=ω\left(n^{-1/\binom{k+r-2}{r-1}}\right)$ using a second moment argument.

On rainbow thresholds
Resolving a recent problem of Bell, Frieze, and Marbach, we establish both the threshold result of Frankston--Kahn--Narayanan--Park, and its strengthening by Spiro, in the rainbow setting. This has applications to the thresholds for rainbow structures in random graphs where each edge is given a uniformly random color from a set of given colors.

An algorithmic version of the Hajnal--Szemerédi theorem
A $K_r$-factor of a graph $G$ is a collection of vertex disjoint $r$-cliques covering $V(G)$. We prove the following algorithmic version of the classical Hajnal--Szemerédi Theorem in graph theory, when $r$ is considered as a constant. Given $r, c, n\in \mathbb{N}$ such that $n\in r\mathbb N$, let $G$ be an $n$-vertex graph with minimum degree at least $(1-1/r)n - c$. Then there is an algorithm with running time $2^{c^{O(1)}} n^{O(1)}$ that outputs either a $K_r$-factor of $G$ or a certificate showing that none exists, namely, this problem is fixed-parameter tractable in $c$. On the other hand, it is known that if $c = n^{\varepsilon}$ for fixed $\varepsilon \in (0,1)$, the problem is \texttt{NP-C}. We indeed establish characterization theorems for this problem, showing that the existence of a $K_r$-factor is equivalent to the existence of certain class of $K_r$-tilings of size $o(n)$, whose existence can be searched by the color-coding technique developed by Alon--Yuster--Zwick.

On powers of Hamilton cycles in Ramsey-Turán Theory
We prove that for $r\in \mathbb{N}$ with $r\geq 2$ and $μ>0$, there exist $α>0$ and $n_{0}$ such that for every $n\geq n_{0}$, every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $δ(G)\geq \left(1-\frac{1}{r}+μ\right)n$ and $α(G)\leq αn$ contains an $r$-th power of a Hamilton cycle. We also show that the minimum degree condition is asymptotically sharp for $r=2, 3$ and the $r=2$ case was recently conjectured by Staden and Treglown.

Large $ Y_{3,2} $-tilings in 3-uniform hypergraphs
Let $Y_{3,2}$ be the 3-graph with two edges intersecting in two vertices. We prove that every 3-graph $ H $ on $ n $ vertices with at least $ \max \left \{ \binom{4αn}{3}, \binom{n}{3}-\binom{n-αn}{3} \right \}+o(n^3) $ edges contains a $Y_{3,2}$-tiling covering more than $ 4αn$ vertices, for sufficiently large $ n $ and $0<α< 1/4$. The bound on the number of edges is asymptotically best possible and solves a conjecture of the authors for 3-graphs that generalizes the Matching Conjecture of Erdős.
Spanning trees in graphs without large bipartite holes
We show that for any $\varepsilon>0$ and $Δ\in\mathbb{N}$, there exists $α>0$ such that for sufficiently large $n$, every $n$-vertex graph $G$ satisfying that $δ(G)\geq\varepsilon n$ and $e(X, Y)>0$ for every pair of disjoint vertex sets $X, Y\subseteq V(G)$ of size $αn$ contains all spanning trees with maximum degree at most $Δ$. This strengthens a result of Böttcher et al.

Dirac-type Problem of Rainbow matchings and Hamilton cycles in Random Graphs
Given a family of graphs $G_1,\dots,G_{n}$ on the same vertex set $[n]$, a rainbow Hamilton cycle is a Hamilton cycle on $[n]$ such that each $G_c$ contributes exactly one edge. We prove that if $G_1,\dots,G_{n}$ are independent samples of $G(n,p)$ on the same vertex set $[n]$, then for each $\varepsilon>0$, whp, every collection of spanning subgraphs $H_c\subseteq G_c$, with $δ(H_c)\geq(\frac{1}{2}+\varepsilon)np$, admits a rainbow Hamilton cycle. A similar result is proved for rainbow perfect matchings in a family of $n/2$ graphs on the same vertex set $[n]$.

Spanning trees in sparse expanders
Given integers $n\ge Δ\ge 2$, let $\mathcal{T}(n, Δ)$ be the collection of all $n$-vertex trees with maximum degree at most $Δ$. A question of Alon, Krivelevich and Sudakov in 2007 asks for determining the best possible spectral gap condition forcing an $(n, d,λ)$-graph to be $\mathcal{T}(n, Δ)$-universal, namely, it contains all members of $\mathcal{T}(n, Δ)$ as a subgraph simultaneously. In this paper we show that for sufficiently large integer $n$ and all $Δ\in \mathbb{N}$, every $(n, d,λ)$-graph with \[ λ\le\frac{d}{2Δ^{5\sqrt{\log n}}} \] is $\mathcal{T}(n, Δ)$-universal. As an immediate corollary, this implies that Alon's ingenious construction of triangle-free sparse expander is $\mathcal{T}(n, Δ)$-universal, which provides an explicit construction of such graphs and thus solves a question of Johannsen, Krivelevich and Samotij. Our main result is formulated under a much more general context, namely, the $(n,d)$-expanders. More precisely, we show that there exist absolute constants $C,c>0$ such that the following statement holds for sufficiently large integer $n$. (1).For all $Δ\in \mathbb{N}$, every $(n, Δ^{5\sqrt{\log n}})$-expander is $\mathcal{T}(n, Δ)$-universal. (2).For all $Δ\in \mathbb{N}$ with $Δ\le c\sqrt{n}$, every $(n, CΔn^{1/2})$-expander is $\mathcal{T}(n, Δ)$-universal. Both results significantly improve a result of Johannsen, Krivelevich and Samotij, and have further implications in locally sparse expanders and Maker-Breaker games that also improve previously known results drastically.

Finding matchings in dense hypergraphs

We consider the algorithmic decision problem that takes as input an $n$-vertex $k$-uniform hypergraph $H$ with minimum codegree at least $m-c$ and decides whether it has a matching of size $m$. We show that this decision problem is fixed parameter tractable with respect to $c$. Furthermore, our algorithm not only decides the problem, but actually either finds a matching of size $m$ or a certificate that no such matching exists. In particular, when $m=n/k$ and $c=O(\log n)$, this gives a polynomial-time algorithm, that given any $n$-vertex $k$-uniform hypergraph $H$ with minimum codegree at least $n/k-c$, finds either a perfect matching in $H$ or a certificate that no perfect matching exists.

$H$-factors in graphs with small independence number
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $H$ be an $h$-vertex graph. The vertex arboricity $ar(H)$ of $H$ is the least integer $r$ such that $V(H)$ can be partitioned into $r$ parts and each part induces a forest in $H$. We show that for sufficiently large $n\in h\mathbb{N}$, every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $δ(G)\geq \max\left\{\left(1-\frac{2}{f(H)}+o(1)\right)n, \left(\frac{1}{2}+o(1)\right)n\right\}$ and $α(G)=o(n)$ contains an $H$-factor, where $f(H)=2ar(H)$ or $2ar(H)-1$. The result can be viewed an analogue of the Alon--Yuster theorem \cite{MR1376050} in Ramsey--Turán theory, which generalises the results of Balogh--Molla--Sharifzadeh~\cite{MR3570984} and Knierm--Su~\cite{MR4193066} on clique factors. In particular the degree conditions are asymptotically sharp for infinitely many graphs $H$ which are not cliques.

Clique-factors in graphs with sublinear $\ell$-independence number

Given a graph $G$ and an integer $\ell\ge 2$, we denote by $α_{\ell}(G)$ the maximum size of a $K_{\ell}$-free subset of vertices in $V(G)$. A recent question of Nenadov and Pehova asks for determining the best possible minimum degree conditions forcing clique-factors in $n$-vertex graphs $G$ with $α_{\ell}(G) = o(n)$, which can be seen as a Ramsey--Turán variant of the celebrated Hajnal--Szemerédi theorem. In this paper we find the asymptotical sharp minimum degree threshold for $K_r$-factors in $n$-vertex graphs $G$ with $α_\ell(G)=n^{1-o(1)}$ for all $r\ge \ell\ge 2$.

On the Keevash-Knox-Mycroft Conjecture

Given $1\le \ell <k$ and $δ\ge0$, let $\textbf{PM}(k,\ell,δ)$ be the decision problem for the existence of perfect matchings in $n$-vertex $k$-uniform hypergraphs with minimum $\ell$-degree at least $δ\binom{n-\ell}{k-\ell}$. For $k\ge 3$, $\textbf{PM}(k,\ell,0)$ was one of the first NP-complete problems by Karp. Keevash, Knox and Mycroft conjectured that $\textbf{PM}(k, \ell, δ)$ is in P for every $δ> 1-(1-1/k)^{k-\ell}$ and verified the case $\ell=k-1$. In this paper we show that this problem can be reduced to the study of the minimum $\ell$-degree condition forcing the existence of fractional perfect matchings. Together with existing results on fractional perfect matchings, this solves the conjecture of Keevash, Knox and Mycroft for $\ell\ge 0.4k$. Moreover, we also supply an algorithm that outputs a perfect matching, provided that one exists.
Tiling multipartite hypergraphs in Quasi-random Hypergraphs

Given $k\ge 2$ and two $k$-graphs ($k$-uniform hypergraphs) $F$ and $H$, an \emph{$F$-factor} in $H$ is a set of vertex disjoint copies of $F$ that together covers the vertex set of $H$. Lenz and Mubayi studied the $F$-factor problems in quasi-random $k$-graphs with minimum degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$. In particular, they constructed a sequence of $1/8$-dense quasi-random $3$-graphs $H(n)$ with minimum degree $Ω(n^2)$ and minimum codegree $Ω(n)$ but with no $K_{2,2,2}$-factor. We prove that if $p>1/8$ and $F$ is a $3$-partite $3$-graph with $f$ vertices, then for sufficiently large $n$, all $p$-dense quasi-random $3$-graphs of order $n$ with minimum codegree $Ω(n)$ and $f\mid n$ have $F$-factors. That is, $1/8$ is the density threshold for ensuring all $3$-partite $3$-graphs $F$-factors in quasi-random $3$-graphs given a minimum codegree condition $Ω(n)$. Moreover, we show that one can not replace the minimum codegree condition by a minimum vertex degree condition. In fact, we find that for any $p\in(0,1)$ and $n\ge n_0$, there exist $p$-dense quasi-random $3$-graphs of order $n$ with minimum degree $Ω(n^2)$ having no $K_{2,2,2}$-factor. In particular, we study the optimal density threshold of $F$-factors for each $3$-partite $3$-graph $F$ in quasi-random $3$-graphs given a minimum codegree condition $Ω(n)$.
Embedding clique-factors in graphs with low $\ell$-independence number

The following question was proposed by Nenadov and Pehova and reiterated by Knierim and Su: Given integers $\ell,r$ and $n$ with $n\in r\mathbb{N}$, is it true that every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $δ(G) \ge \max \{ \frac{1}{2},\frac{r - \ell}{r} \}n + o(n)$ and $α_{\ell}(G) = o(n) $ contains a $K_{r}$-factor? We give a negative answer for the case when $\ell\ge \frac{3r}{4}$ by giving a family of constructions using the so-called cover thresholds and show that the minimum degree condition given by our construction is asymptotically best possible. That is, for all integers $r,\ell$ with $r > \ell \ge \frac{3}{4}r$ and $μ>0$, there exist $α> 0$ and $N$ such that for every $n\in r\mathbb{N}$ with $n>N$, every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $δ(G) \ge \left( \frac{1}{2-\varrho_{\ell}(r-1)} + μ\right)n $ and $α_{\ell}(G) \le αn$ contains a $K_{r}$-factor. Here $\varrho_{\ell}(r-1)$ is the Ramsey--Turán density for $K_{r-1}$ under the $\ell$-independence number condition.
Transversal Hamilton cycle in hypergraph systems

A $k$-graph system $\textbf{H}=\{H_i\}_{i\in[m]}$ is a family of not necessarily distinct $k$-graphs on the same $n$-vertex set $V$ and a $k$-graph $H$ on $V$ is said to be $\textbf{H}$-transversal provided that there exists an injection $\varphi: E(H)\rightarrow [m]$ such that $e\in E(H_{\varphi(e)})$ for all $e\in E(H)$. We show that given $k\geq3, γ>0$, sufficiently large $n$ and an $n$-vertex $k$-graph system $\textbf{H}=\{H_i\}_{i\in[n]}$, if $δ_{k-1}(H_i)\geq(1/2+γ)n$ for each $i\in[n]$, then there exists an $\textbf{H}$-transversal tight Hamilton cycle. This extends the result of Rödl, Ruciński and Szemerédi [Combinatorica, 2008] on single $k$-graphs.

Large $ Y_{k,b} $-tilings and Hamilton $ \ell $-cycles in $k$-uniform hypergraphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $Y_{3,2}$ be the $3$-uniform hypergraph with two edges intersecting in two vertices. Our main result is that any $n$-vertex 3-uniform hypergraph with at least $\binom{n}{3} - \binom{n-m+1}{3} + o(n^3)$ edges contains a collection of $m$ vertex-disjoint copies of $Y_{3,2}$, for $m\le n/7$. The bound on the number of edges is asymptotically best possible. This problem generalizes the Matching Conjecture of Erdős. We then use this result combined with the absorbing method to determine the asymptotically best possible minimum $(k-3)$-degree threshold for $\ell$-Hamiltonicity in $k$-graphs, where $k\ge 7$ is odd and $\ell=(k-1)/2$. Moreover, we give related results on $ Y_{k,b} $-tilings and Hamilton $ \ell $-cycles with $ d $-degree for some other values of $ k,\ell,d $.
$F$-factors in Quasi-random Hypergraphs

Given $k\ge 2$ and two $k$-graphs ($k$-uniform hypergraphs) $F$ and $H$, an $F$-factor in $H$ is a set of vertex-disjoint copies of $F$ that together covers the vertex set of $H$. Lenz and Mubayi [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B, 2016] studied the $F$-factor problem in quasi-random $k$-graphs with minimum degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$. They posed the problem of characterizing the $k$-graphs $F$ such that every sufficiently large quasi-random $k$-graph with constant edge density and minimum degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$ contains an $F$-factor, and in particular, they showed that all linear $k$-graphs satisfy this property. In this paper we prove a general theorem on $F$-factors which reduces the $F$-factor problem of Lenz and Mubayi to a natural sub-problem, that is, the $F$-cover problem. By using this result, we answer the question of Lenz and Mubayi for those $F$ which are $k$-partite $k$-graphs, and for all 3-graphs $F$, separately. Our characterization result on 3-graphs is motivated by the recent work of Reiher, Rödl and Schacht [J. Lond. Math. Soc., 2018] that classifies the 3-graphs with vanishing Turán density in quasi-random $k$-graphs.

Matching of given sizes in hypergraphs

For all integers $k,d$ such that $k \geq 3$ and $k/2\leq d \leq k-1$, let $n$ be a sufficiently large integer {\rm(}which may not be divisible by $k${\rm)} and let $s\le \lfloor n/k\rfloor-1$. We show that if $H$ is a $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices with $δ_{d}(H)>\binom{n-d}{k-d}-\binom{n-d-s+1}{k-d}$, then $H$ contains a matching of size $s$. This improves a recent result of Lu, Yu, and Yuan and also answers a question of Kühn, Osthus, and Townsend. In many cases, our result can be strengthened to $s\leq \lfloor n/k\rfloor$, which then covers the entire possible range of $s$. On the other hand, there are examples showing that the result does not hold for certain $n, k, d$ and $s= \lfloor n/k\rfloor$.
A Ramsey-Turán theory for tilings in graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
For a $k$-vertex graph $F$ and an $n$-vertex graph $G$, an $F$-tiling in $G$ is a collection of vertex-disjoint copies of $F$ in $G$. For $r\in \mathbb{N}$, the $r$-independence number of $G$, denoted $α_r(G)$ is the largest size of a $K_r$-free set of vertices in $G$. In this paper, we discuss Ramsey--Turán-type theorems for tilings where one is interested in minimum degree and independence number conditions (and the interaction between the two) that guarantee the existence of optimal $F$-tilings. For cliques, we show that for any $k\geq 3$ and $η>0$, any graph $G$ on $n$ vertices with $δ(G)\geq ηn$ and $α_k(G)=o(n)$ has a $K_k$-tiling covering all but $\lfloor\tfrac{1}η\rfloor(k-1)$ vertices. All conditions in this result are tight; the number of vertices left uncovered can not be improved and for $η<\tfrac{1}{k}$, a condition of $α_{k-1}(G)=o(n)$ would not suffice. When $η>\tfrac{1}{k}$, we then show that $α_{k-1}(G)=o(n)$ does suffice, but not $α_{k-2}(G)=o(n)$. These results unify and generalise previous results of Balogh-Molla-Sharifzadeh, Nenadov-Pehova and Balogh-McDowell-Molla-Mycroft on the subject. We further explore the picture when $F$ is a tree or a cycle and discuss the effect of replacing the independence number condition with $α^*(G)=o(n)$ (meaning that any pair of disjoint linear sized sets induce an edge between them) where one can force perfect $F$-tilings covering all the vertices. Finally we discuss the consequences of these results in the randomly perturbed setting.

Rainbow spanning structures in graph and hypergraph systems
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the following rainbow version of subgraph containment problems in a family of (hyper)graphs, which generalizes the classical subgraph containment problems in a single host graph. For a collection $\textbf{G}=\{G_1, G_2,\ldots, G_{m}\}$ of not necessarily distinct $k$-graphs on the same vertex set $[n]$, a (sub)graph $H$ on $[n]$ is rainbow if there exists an injection $\varphi: E(H)\rightarrow[m]$ such that $e\in E(G_{\varphi(e)})$ for each $e\in E(H)$. Note that if $|E(H)|=m$, then $\varphi$ is a bijection and thus $H$ contains exactly one edge from each $G_i$. Our main results focus on rainbow clique-factors in (hyper)graph systems with minimum $d$-degree conditions. Specifically, we establish the following: (1) A rainbow analogue of an asymptotical version of the Hajnal--Szemerédi theorem, namely, if $t\mid n$ and $δ(G_i)\geq(1-\frac{1}{t}+\varepsilon)n$ for each $i\in[\frac{n}{t}\binom{t}{2}]$, then $\textbf{G}$ contains a rainbow $K_t$-factor; (2) Essentially a minimum $d$-degree condition forcing a perfect matching in a $k$-graph also forces rainbow perfect matchings in $k$-graph systems for $d\in[k-1]$. The degree assumptions in both results are asymptotically best possible (although the minimum $d$-degree condition forcing a perfect matching in a $k$-graph is in general unknown). For (1) we also discuss two directed versions and a multipartite version. Finally, to establish these results, we in fact provide a general framework to attack this type of problems, which reduces it to subproblems with finitely many colors.
