Equiangular tight frames in real symplectic space: Zauner's conjecture and the skew Hadamard conjecture
We introduce the notion of equiangular tight frames in real symplectic spaces and formulate a conjecture on their existence in terms of the dimension and number of vectors. Our main results shows the "symplectic Zauner's conjecture" is equivalent to the skew Hadamard conjecture. The proof involves counting subgraphs called "diamonds" in tournaments.

We show the optimal coherence of $2d$ lines in $\mathbb{C}^{d}$ is given by the Welch bound whenever a skew Hadamard of order $d+1$ exists. Our proof uses a variant of Hadamard doubling that converts any equiangular tight frame of size $\tfrac{d-1}{2} \times d$ into another one of size $d \times 2d$. Among $d < 150$, this produces equiangular tight frames of new sizes when $d = 11$, $35$, $39$, $43$, $47$, $59$, $67$, $71$, $83$, $95$, $103$, $107$, $111$, $119$, $123$, $127$, $131$, and $143$.
Rainbow numbers of $[m] \times [n]$ for $x_1 + x_2 = x_3$
Consider the set $[m]\times [n] = \{(i,j)\, : 1\le i \le m, 1\le j \le n\}$ and the equation $x_1+x_2 = x_3$, namely $eq$. The \emph{rainbow number of $[m] \times [n]$ for $eq$}, denoted $\text{rb}([m]\times [n],eq)$, is the smallest number of colors such that for every surjective $\text{rb}([m]\times[n], eq)$-coloring of $[m]\times [n]$ there must exist a solution to $eq$, with component-wise addition, where every element of the solution set is assigned a distinct color. This paper determines that $\text{rb}([m]\times [n], eq) = m+n+1$ for all values of $m$ and $n$ that a greater than or equal to $2$.

Consider the set $\{1,2,\dots,n\} = [n]$ and an equation $eq$. The rainbow number of $[n]$ for $eq$, denoted $\operatorname{rb}([n],eq)$, is the smallest number of colors such that for every exact $\operatorname{rb}([n], eq)$-coloring of $[n]$, there exists a solution to $eq$ with every member of the solution set assigned a distinct color. This paper focuses on linear equations and, in particular, establishes the rainbow number for the equations $\sum_{i=1}^{k-1} x_i = x_k$ for $k=3$ and $k=4$. The paper also establishes a general lower bound for $k \ge 5$.
