Cones of Theta Graphs are Enumeratively Chromatic-Choosable
Chromatic choosability is a fundamental notion in list coloring. A graph $G$ is chromatic-choosable if its chromatic number $χ(G)$ equals its list chromatic number $χ_{\ell}(G)$. In 1990, Kostochka and Sidorenko introduced the list color function of a graph $G$, denoted by $P_{\ell}(G,m)$, which is the list-coloring analogue of its chromatic polynomial $P(G,m)$. A graph $G$ is enumeratively chromatic-choosable if $P_{\ell}(G,m)=P(G,m)$ for every $m \in \mathbb{N}$. In 2002, Ohba proved that for every graph $G$, there exists an $N \in \mathbb{N}$ such that $K_p \vee G$ is chromatic-choosable whenever $p \geq N$. Allred and Mudrock recently conjectured that an analogous statement holds for enumerative chromatic choosability. In this paper, we prove that $K_1 \vee G$ is enumeratively chromatic-choosable whenever $G$ is a theta graph. Our proof combines classical inequalities, the polynomial method, and ideas from DP (or correspondence) coloring.

We study the list chromatic number of the Cartesian product of a complete graph of order $n$ and a complete bipartite graph with partite sets of size $a$ and $b$, denoted $χ_{\ell}(K_n \square K_{a,b})$. At the 2024 Sparse Graphs Coalition's Workshop on algebraic, extremal, and structural methods and problems in graph colouring, Mudrock presented the following question: For each positive integer $a$, does $χ_{\ell}(K_n \square K_{a,b}) = n+a$ if and only if $b \geq (n+a-1)!^a/(a-1)!^a$? In this paper, we show the answer to this question is yes by studying $χ_{\ell}(H \square K_{a,b})$ when $H$ is strongly chromatic-choosable (a special form of vertex criticality) with the help of the list color function and analytic inequalities such as that of Karamata. Our result can be viewed as a generalization of the well-known result that $χ_{\ell}(K_{a,b}) = 1+a$ if and only if $b \geq a^a$.
